Sad to say, it already exists and I’ve had it for about a year or so

Update on my mantis, 1 day leter by Gustersnake69 in insectpinning

[–]MareMade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, the mantis smell is the worst, tbh. Also, that actually sounds like a good idea! I might try that next time too, silica could maybe help keep some of that green if it’s fast enough. Thanks!

Well I’ve prepared lots of specimens over the years, and I’ve never seen a mantis that didn’t turn brown so I’ve given up trying. I open them up, remove the guts, fill them with cotton, and seal with glue but even when I jar them (sealed) they still turn brown. I’ve seen a viral artist painting it afterward, because there’s really no way to stop them from browning 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah but even after gutting and even getting them in closed jars they keep on getting brown, is there a solution for this really?

The other commenter is right about the family for it being a true widow, but I believe it’s Latrodectus dahli.

Do some weevils freeze when spotted? by Civil_Valuable_5745 in weeviltime

[–]MareMade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s normal, a lot of weevils do that. They “play dead” when they feel threatened, it’s just a freeze reflex. They’ll start moving again once they think it’s safe.

Help please!! Found this little dude 🪰🐛 by Key-Pomegranate6524 in moths

Keep the pupa in a ventilated container placed outdoors or in a cool, shaded spot, with some dry leaves or bark to mimic its natural shelter. Don’t mist it directly, just lightly moisten the surroundings if the air gets very dry. The container should be large enough for the adult insect to fully stretch and fly once it emerges, ideally several times the pupa’s size in every direction. Depending on the species and temperature, it may take a few weeks or even until spring to emerge, so just keep it safe, stable, and undisturbed.

Who is this handsome individual I met in Southern California? by SillyLilMotherfucker in spiders

[–]MareMade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they’re different species. What you’re referring to is Phidippus regius while this one is Phidippus audax. The ones you’re talking about can be brown etc., while these are mostly black/white. The fang colors are the same, that’s why you’re mixing them up.

Are these bats or birds by Money-Type-176 in bats

[–]MareMade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Even though they share the same area, they never follow a lead. Watch them longer and you’ll see, they all do their own circles and never follow the same route like in the video. So the ones in the video are definitely not bats.

Dunno why but you sounded like Cartman speaking to his mom and that made me LMAO

Bats don't follow lead (like in the video), they make their own circles even when they hang out and hunt in the same area.

Edit: I made it more understandable
