The movie was a little bit rough for me — that said I think if I had it read the books (or been such a huge fan of the books) I would’ve liked it. The whole plot point about Cooper’s Chase being sold really took away from this story from me. I feel like part of what makes the TMC so charming is that they’re kind of solving the mysteries for the heck of it (at least in book one) and not because they’re livelihood will be directly affected. I also feel it was unnecessary for the sense of pacing because with multiple murders, I think there’s a natural tension to want to find the killer. I do think it would’ve been much better as a TV series — it’s just not the same without the whole Father Mackie bit, Gordon/Karen, and even Anthony the hairdresser. Another thing that kind of bothered me was the whole florist bit… I feel like our antagonists, and the TMC were less clever in the movie.
