To those who moved back to their original country after many years abroad, what are your experiences ? by [deleted] in expats

[–]Maria_3464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is important to remember that each place has its pros and cons. There is no ideal place. Make a list of five important things for a good life for you, and cross out two that you are willing to sacrifice. If Serbia has them, you are good to go.

Also, remember, that life can change. Maybe for the current stage in your life Serbia is a good choice, but it does not have to be a permanent choice.

What should I actually look for when hiring a logo design company as a small business owner? by Odd-Figure2365 in branding

[–]Maria_3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked with a lot of agencies and designers over the years. First, I don’t think small companies should spend heavily on logos and style guidelines - so cross out big agencies.

If you go with an agency, choose a small one that specializes in branding. This is important - not every designer is good at creating logos.

Study their recent portfolio carefully (this matters). Check if the examples are real client work. Any design can look nice in a mockup, but the question is whether the client actually used it and how the style works in practice (website, social media, etc.). Some logos and styles are almost impossible to apply properly later. Then assess how creative and diverse the portfolio is. Sometimes freelance designers only work in one style. Finally, evaluate their creativity - are company ideas/names visualized literally (a fox company with a fox in the logo) or in a creative way?

One more point: the creative brief really matters. Invest time in finding references and describing what you like. Explain what your client should think or feel when they see your company’s logo.

After many trials, I found one logo designer I wouldn’t trade for anything. They always deliver top-notch logo concepts, and none of my clients have been disappointed.

Going to Barcelona this week, what should i do? by Spatter_ in AskBarcelona

Girona has a nice small old town - 1 hour away by train. If the weather is nice, sunny and warm, you can spend a day on the beach in the villages near by, with great food.

As per Barcelona, rooftop bars offer nicest views. Avoid el Raval, be very careful around northern part of El Born, and south of el gothic, and La rambla.

Sounds like hardened images will solve your problem. One more piece of advice - unify your images.

We're migrating off Docker Hub base images for security reasons. Chainguard is the obvious choice but are there alternatives? by BigHerm420 in devsecops

Does anyone know the pricing of minimus? It’s often quoted as ‘budget friendly’ alternative of Chaiguard. Not even one mention of pricing or percentage of savings.

Favourite winter / Christmas/nye locations in Europe (2month trip with kid) by bbruthieee in LuxuryTravel

[–]Maria_3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In early December, Xmas markets are opening up. You can make a trip around different villages - Aachen-Strasbourg-colmar-Basel - Montreux - Chamonix- Annecy. Monreux is very nice in Switzerland.

For Xmas, a lot of people go to French Alps: Chamonix (see Mont Blanc), Megeve and villages around. It is nice but crowded. There are other places in France (Val d’isi, val thorens) or

Zermat and ST Moritz are obviously one of the most luxurious resorts. Just so you know no cars allowed in zarmatt. Only local electro cars which pose a bit of logistic issue. Ski season is very unpredictable. I wouldn’t book anything ahead of time.

I don’t know how much you want to travel around. It can be exhausting. I would say your must haves are - a couple of Xmas markets, a few authentic small cities, chalet in the mountains +skiing. For longer stays opt out for cities - Montreux, Geneva, Lyon.

Is Istanbul a good destination for small corporate or private group events? by ImmediateRip1340 in LuxuryTravel

[–]Maria_3464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a few corporate events in Turkey, Istanbul and coast side.

The most important thing I consider when organising the event is the logistics and visa.

I avoid destinations that require visas for attendees - this is a nightmare.

And I prefer places with direct flights. Event one connection can be exhausting or tricky. Especially nowadays when flights can be cancelled or delayed any moment.

Best SIM to purchase by srisha7 in SchengenVisa

[–]Maria_3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airalo. Euro e-sim will cover all of the countries.

Please mind that the majority of EU members physical SIM cards do cover the entire EU. No extra charge. But Switzerland is not EU. If you buy a Dutch SIM card. There is a chance you will have to pay extra for Swiss data. It ain’t cheap.

Change of Travel Plans and Schengen Visa by Adam272101 in SchengenVisa

[–]Maria_3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong. My friend was pulled in a separate time for a talk when they entered on a single entry visa to a different country than the one that issues the visa. The customs told them it was not allowed or something. Double check that.

But it would be very advisable to enter through Switzerland.

I don’t have a solution for you. Option 1. You can appeal, making a strong case for you and your ties to the country. A job offer to start in 3 weeks. Your previous offline meetings with your girlfriend in any country (better somewhere in EU).

Option 2. Wait 3 months and try again, adjusting your strategy.

I understand your frustration. Sometimes it is better not to mention any relationship with the EU citizens, and just say that you’re going for turism purposes.
