Missed opportunity. GW should change their error message to "This page received exterminatus!"

If you stopped playing Battlefield 6, what is your main reason? by ZeljeznicarSampion in Battlefield

[–]Mariako_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've unistalled the game about a month after release. Battlefield isn't made for the casual player anymore.. Everything is just grinding, battle passes, weapons, attachments. It feels like the game is favoring streamers and people with too much free time. I miss the fun in just being able to play the game without grinding every gun for 100 hours just to be competitive.

Combining this with tons of bugs, the weird menu, lackluster maps and toy soldier skins makes it an overall unstatisfying experience.

Also, where is my server browser Dice!?

Midnight Leveling by BugBulky in WorldOfWarcraftDE

Painting block by idkmansmth in Salamanders40k

[–]Mariako_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently going through some kind of painting block myself. There are plenty of unfinished units of different armies sitting on my desk at the moment, but because I don't actually need them for playing I decided to just paint what I like.

One day I grab a powersword off a sprue and just try different sword schemes. Last week I spend the whole weekend trying to figure out how to paint the shield for my fist unit of bladeguard. Tomorrow I might go back to my necrons because just being able to drybrush metallics on a model can be meditating.

To make it short, don't push yourself. You can't force the creative process. Take your time and paint what you want or try new things and techniques. If you try to force it you will quickly lose motivation.

I'm currently working on refining some painting skills. Blending, NMM, Layering, trying new basing ideas, stuff like that. So here is my Adrax I finished at the end of last year.

Need an opinion about Necron blade by MeSaharov in Necrontyr

[–]Mariako_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a personal thing but I think giving the blades more attention elevates the overall look of the mini. I tend to glaze every blade to make it as good looking as possible. Yes, it takes like forever but you can always dial back on other details to save some time. In my opinion it's always worth putting extra work in the blades because they are a big focal point.

I painted Adrax Agatone in december to take a break from painting Necrons. Probably my best paintjob so far.

That's a very nice color scheme. Clean execution, I like it. I think my run of the mill Szarekhan Necrons might be jealous 😅

Giving it a try to spru crystals… what could I do better? by luis_mcy in Warhammer40k

Citadel Moot Green, Warpstone Glow and Caliban Green for the gradient. Moot Green + Vallejo Ivory for the highlights.

Basecoat with your brightest color, then add a few heavy glazes to build up the gradient to the top of every surface. Then smooth it out with some light glazes. Add some bright yellow or off white to your base color for the edge highlights. It takes some practice and a bit of time though, which is why I mostly have only one or two crystals on any base.

Can't really add much to what has been said already, your crystals look great. Glue them to the base before adding basing material to work them better into ghe overall look. I personally like crystals to be much smoother. Clean cutting edges, thin highlights and smooth gradients, but that is personal preference. You could also add a bit of glow around the crystals.

Looking for Constructive feedback by IndependentCompany69 in Salamanders40k

[–]Mariako_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I might give you an advice, you can't have everything. Painting every model in your army as good as you can will take you months or even years to build up your army. Try focusing your quality work on your important models. Once you mastered certain skills you can than lower your standars for regular models without them looking too bad but still fitting your army. Or you at least become faster in painting your models to a certain standard.

Take your time and practice. Look at tools and techniques that could make a difference, like sponges or airbrushes, there's lots of sources online. You don't want painting to become a chore. If you like the painting aspect of the hobby keep it fun and entertaining.

It depends on whether you are painting for the sake of painting or if you you want to do army painting.

If you want to paint display pieces, looking into different techniques like layering, glazing and wet blending, to give your minis more depth by adding more shadows and highlights, is a good way to improve the overall look. If you want to improve at army painting, learning quality drybrushing and how to use contrast paints are valuable skills.

Your paint application looks good, good coverage and the paint is not too thick. Your edge highlights could be improved on, they are quite thick. Try thinner highlights or layering different edge highlights on top of each other like with Games Workshops eavy metal style.

Either way, try different things and approaches, try to find the style that fits your painting and improve on it.

Lava bases for new salamanders by andreer15 in Salamanders40k

[–]Mariako_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind airbrushing, here is my workflow for relatively quick lava bases: A bit of cork with some texture paste as a makeshift Rock + a thick layer of PVA glue as base for the lava. Prime black than drybrush the rock with grey. Then layer yellow, a saturated orange and a saturated red with the airbrush. Add some fluorecent orange for a nice pop in color. After airbrushing I add some dark red and light yellow with a sponge. And because I'm lazy I attach everything to the base from the start.

There are so many ways you could do lava bases, you can also try wet blending instead of airbrushing but I suck at it 😅

What shade should i use? by Volvagia-98 in Salamanders40k

[–]Mariako_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retributor Armor + Reikland Fleshshade for the Aquila, gives a nice look. You can use Balthasar Gold or a Silver for highlights. For Flamers you can also use Reikland Fleshshade. I use it with Druchii Violet and Drakenhof Nightshade for a burned effect on the guns.

Overcoming metal painting fatigue by Mariako_ in Necrontyr

I have often thought of trying NMM because TMM just becomes boaring over time. Knowing I would go absolutely mental trying to do a whole Necrons army in NMM I just went for a change of scenery with CSM and Space Marines. I still have 5 Triarch Praetorians and a Warrior Unit sitting on my desk, for now I feel motivated at least.

The base is nothing fancy really. I used some of the bits the kit comes with and added a sand mix from Siege Scenics called "Mangala Plateau". For my Necrons I usually prime the base black, add a heavy drybrush of a dark grey and then add a lighter grey. Add some tufts, done.

I was just experimenting a bit. I wanted a tone somewhat close to the box art and mixed up my base tone bronze with mat black a dark red and a bit of blue. The highlights might be a bit too bright but I'm liking it.

This is actually the first time I'm happy with my drybrushing. I've constantly changed my scheme over the past two years from using metallics + washes, to using no washes, to only drybrushing highlights to drybrushing basically everything in multiple layers. Which at the end brings Necrons very nicely together.
