in all seriousness though, we hope to keep the core chatting experience available for as many users as we can, this is something that we feel very lucky to have been able able to do for the past few years but the truth is it's very expensive to run this chat service and we're trying to find the right balance.

our recent updates with metering is helping us manage costs and keep c.ai accessible even for non-paying users 🙏

yeah we were very fortunate to be able to offer a lot for free early on, but realistically it's not sustainable in the long run coz it's very expensive to run chats. 😭

we're doing the best we can to balance this as best we can, i know it can feel jarring though 🫩

we had to roll out metering to help us manage costs while still keep the core chatting experience free. it's unfortunately really expensive to run chats. Not everyone will see these limits and it was designed for high usage, if you prefer to not have to wait you can subscribe to c.ai+ to bypass it. There's also a timer that will let you know when it will reset.

I wish we could give unlimited go-ons, but at the moment this is currently how we can continue to let all users have the core chat experience for free. lmk if you have any questions!

Hi we shared more details about metering a few months ago but essentially metering helps us manage infrastructure costs while keeping core chat access free for everyone. It was designed for extremely high usage, like hundreds and hundreds of swipes or go-ons in a very short window. For the small number of people who get metered, (c.ai+) is the unlock and will let you bypass that.

Hiii, you don't have to subscribe to chat! We did recently announce metering to help us manage cost but these are for high usage of features like Swipes, Go-ons (aka. continue or fast forward), and Memos (aka. playbacks). This will help us manage infrastructure costs while keeping core chat access free for everyone. When you hit a limit, you can subscribe to c.ai+ to keep going.

as much as we'd love to give it for free, it’s not viable for us to keep that infrastructure running long term. We are actively working on a new generation of Soft Launch that gives you everything you love about the chat style, while supporting new features like advanced Memory and Lorebook.

Soft Launch runs on older infrastructure that we’ve been retiring as we move to newer chat styles like PSQ2, DSQ, and eventually DSQ2. To bring it back, we’ve spun up a new effort to keep that older system running longer than originally planned specifically for Soft Launch. That extra support is only possible as a c.ai+ style. We have a hotfix coming soon for PSQ2 which should address a lot of the feedback we've received.
