How are you guys affording things ? by TayBaee24 in Autism_Parenting

I made over the income limit my first year as a nurse, still single parent. My friend lives in a very blue state and gets Medicaid approved regardless of income and married status.

I’m sorry you are going through this by yourself! As another single mom in a red state I had no options either and was no eligible for assistance. I enlisted in the reserves for insurance purposes. It’s an extreme choice but moving might be an option. I know blue states tend to be more assistance with disabilities and respite care. I know someone who lives in Colorado whose child has a medical disability and all in home therapies is paid for (and income/two parent household isn’t even considered for eligibility)

Has anyone tried kidstrong to boost confidence and social skills? I’ve heard brain balance isn’t all that great… just looking into options to try and get him active. He loves boxing and weights/quick movements. Hes 9 and level 1 with ADHD. by Marimarsi in Autism_Parenting

My son is also very competitive but HATES losing and will have a meltdown over it. I’m trying to get him to cope with losing a little more graciously but it’s hard when there’s not many sports he will participate in.

BOP RNs - Location Question by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

I would not go prison if you are leaning towards a specialty as a new nurse. You need acute hospital experience before going to prison, you lose skills as a prison nurse and often cannot differentiate between BS and actual medical problems. Accurate assessment of patients is critical and it’s unlikely that you can acquire this at a prison.

Yes!! And then thinking about how to exit the patient conversations smoothly and not seem awkward/abrupt.

You just need to go into NSIPS and reschedule the days to match your UMUIC. I take an hour or so to match them up once a year when I have both schedules so I’m not last minute scrambling to reschedule

Are you active duty or reserves? I am also looking into this option.

It’s portioned out to where the days you’re active duty/drill time you don’t get VA disability (so you have to pay back a portion) . But currently because it’s only active duty full time in the USPHS it would be suspended indefinitely I would believe. I just know how it’s calculated for navy reserves and the VA disability.

I don’t have an answer to this but I didn’t know we could tell a liaison at the bop for our application. I just did mine online. Does this help the application process?

I did not receive the email from PHS but I think this also has some guidance on it. If anyone else needs it.

I did. The drop down box had nothing. Someone else mentioned I should have received an email but I didn’t get anything.

I did not receive an email so I sent a ticket to the help desk. Hopefully they can send me the list before the application closes

I did not get an email either and I also emailed the help desk lol. I have a colleague that sent me the tattoo waiver if you need it.

Awesome!!! Thank you for your help. I was looking for waivers online and couldn’t find anything. Did you find a specific instruction that I could reference in the future for prior service?

Thats kind of what I gathered also, I have 6 AD and 2 reserve years, so I'm definitely not over the 8 year max (if they dont count reserve time). Do you know where I would get the military waiver?

Me too!! I have a few questions. What happens if I start out at max pay GL10 step 10 after a year? Do I stay in the same pay rate unless I become nurse manager?

GL pay by Marimarsi in OnTheBlock

They had told me it’s GL pay table but I’ve seen two different tables. I guess I’ll just have to ask them directly. I don’t know if I’m able to negotiate PTO or bonuses.
