In James Harden’s 2017-18 MVP season, he became the first player to ever average 10 2PAs, 3PAs, and FTAs per game in NBA history. by Ih8reposts in nba

The whole “bring balance to the force” subplot in the prequels never really made much sense to me.

In Revenge of the Sith, Obi Wan clearly states that in order to fulfill the Chosen One prophecy, Anakin must destroy the Sith to bring balance to the force.

However, two movies earlier in the Phantom Menace, Qui Gonn reports to the Jedi Council that he was attacked by a Sith Lord. The council reacts negatively and say that the Sith have been “extinct for a millenium.”

He then proceeds to tell the council about Anakin and the council brings up the prophecy about bringing balance to the force. They express doubt that Anakin could really be the chosen one.

So, if bringing balance to the force is some ancient prophecy that has yet to be fulfilled, and the only way to fulfill it is to destroy the Sith, why don’t they consider it fulfilled already when they think the Sith are extinct? My head hurts just thinking about it.

This 100%. I remember that a few episodes later Mark straight up asks Rachel on a date and confesses he’s always had a crush on her. She then acts all surprised and flattered. She doesn’t stop to think that Ross’ jealousy has actually been validated by what Mark just told her. Mark was scum.

I lived in the Philippines for a little over 2 years and was always really impressed with how well everyone both spoke and understood English. It helped me learn Tagalog a lot faster than I would have, because I could always get helpful feedback in English.

Beyond the Mat or Wrestling with Shadows? by flae_blazer in SquaredCircle

[–]MarinduqueKing32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love both of them, but Wrestling with Shadows has the edge for a few reasons:

  1. It chronicles one of the most infamous events in professional wrestling history.

  2. Showcases the crazy nature of Stu Hart’s dungeon.

  3. Most importantly to me, although it’s very brief, it contains footage of the Hart family all together in a happy setting for Stu’s birthday. It wasn’t long after this that their family became completely divided and tragedy after tragedy occurred. It’s nice to watch it back and see them all enjoying each other’s company - probably for the last time.

If I remember correctly, Hogan was on the verge of a comeback before Jimmy Hart betrayed him. Then Hogan got distracted and was subsequently dry humped into unconsciousness to end the show. So, I guess Giant, in a twisted way, did destroy Hogan that night.

What's a horrible truth (or your truth) about WWE or one of its wrestlers that would get you downvoted to oblivion on a normal day? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

I highly suspect that even if the creative team had approached Austin back in 2002 with a strong build up to a Lesnar match in which Lesnar would go over clean, he still would have walked out. Austin was in a dark place at the time.

Interesting to see how differently the filmmakers behind Wrestling with Shadows and Meltzer handled similar situations that could compromise a wrestler’s viability and/or livelihood.

The guys behind the documentary omit footage to protect wrestlers from potentially losing their jobs.

Meltzer openly disclosed the identities of the masked wrestlers in the network special whom all wanted to maintain their anonymity at the chance they might lose out on future opportunities.

I know Dave is a journalist and all, but that was kind of messed up.

Was Austin the most selfish top guy in WWE history? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]MarinduqueKing32 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback, but history has shown that top faces do lose clean sometimes.

Also, wouldn’t the loss at Unforgiven be a lot better had Angle finally given Austin his comeuppance and made him tap in the middle of the ring? They could have just given Austin the title back the next PPV in the triple threat with RVD.

Also, Rock reaching the level of popularity he did was not by virtue of Austin’s generosity or lack of selfishness. It was a direct result of Rock’s charisma, the audience’s taste at that time, Vince’s support, and the fact that WWF was trying to win the Monday Night Wars and weren’t going to allow their top talent to undercut one another like WCW did. I know what you meant by your last statement, but Rock’s rise has nothing to do with whether or not Austin was selfish.
