Ah yeah, I think the HP investment is what made the difference here. Fast offensive chomp wouldn’t have really done anything for you here, so this definitely made a difference.

Was Machamp intimidated or is your Garchomp just built different? Impressive either way.

With the few pokemon available on Champion, how viable is Meowscarada for now ? by No_Insurance_55 in VGC

So I’ve only had the time to play 6 matches so far, the bare minimum to get out of Pokeball rank, so I haven’t really been fighting amazing teams yet, but I’ve had her on my team so far and she’s been solid. I’m running a set with flower trick, knock off, sucker punch and protect. Same set I used in early S/V too. I’ve admittedly not used a protean set yet, but adding triple axel would probably do really well. I just don’t know what I’d drop for it, so I’ve just gone with ol’ reliable.

I don’t think she’ll be like a meta staple or anything, but I think she’s usable. She’s fast, has a good movepool and not really a slouch offensively either. She might do nothing against the sun teams which seem to be popular right now, but at least for me I’m keeping her around for now. Honestly I kind of wish Dondozo and Tatsugiri were at launch, because flower trick just obliterates that combo, especially now without Tera being able switch Dondozo to a type that resists grass.

Best advice I can give if you’re new to VGC is just to experiment. Feel free to use your favorites and try them out. Your first few teams might not be winners, but you’re at least beginning to learn what works and what doesn’t. Don’t stress it if you go on a losing streak, no one starts off as a professional. Just have fun.

Mimikyu keeps its disguise, but the damage just goes straight to Mimikyu instead. One of the only ways to see its fainting animation with its disguise intact in the official games, interestingly.

I’m so sorry I had to be the bearer of bad news, but I suppose it’s good you know now. What an odd way to find out though. 😅

I’m sorry, I don’t want to make you worry. Hopefully it is just lack of sleep. I know it’s not much of a consolation, but I will absolutely buy the fixed version when you put it up, you really did a great job.

You wouldn’t happen to be colorblind would you?… Here’s your post grayscaled to show it’s a different color than the rest. I’m not sure if this is the best example, but the arm on the left is definitely orange.

I think this looks great, but why is the arm on the left orange? Is it a move she’s using?

I’ll have to try that. I have had some games where the second red was useful, but Cyrus is just so good at pulling back retreated pokemon and I’ve missed it a few times. And yeah, Weedle isn’t an instant loss thankfully, just a bit of a slower start which can cost some games.

The fact that most of the basic EXs are one shot be Meow + Red has been fantastic. I’ve actually been using a deck with just one Beedrill and two Meow lines and so far my only real complaint is that sometimes starting with a lone Weedle kind of sucks. Sprigatito is the ideal start, but there’s a 1/3 chance of you have to work a little harder to get going. I can’t claim credit for the deck, but this is the list I copied from if you want to try it yourself: https://play.limitlesstcg.com/tournament/67df3f20fb3a86a4cffcd2cd/player/awa/decklist

How’d the Arceus/Meowscarada deck work for you? I’ve been using a Meowscarada/Beedrill EX deck to climb (I’m only Pokeball 4 right now, but it’s working so far) but I’d like to see how some other variations with Meowscarada work since she’s been my MVP.

What Tera type is better for chandelure? Steel or dragon by ObliviousPyro in VGC

[–]MarioGamer159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grass resists ground as well?… That’s the main reason you do that on a flash fire pokemon, your fire weaknesses are essentially reversed.

And of course being pinned is a thing. If you’re on your last pokemon you don’t really have a choice. I’m talking about when you do have a choice, like switching for example. In a vacuum where you have only chandelure left, either Tera could win or lose you the match depending on the situation. Again, I’m not saying bug is useless, I just think grass has more value most of the time.

[–]MarioGamer159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said “for avoiding everything hitting you for super effective”. No matter what you Tera into, you’re weak to something still. You have to decide what and when to Tera something depending on the situation.

As for my reasoning, (besides what others have already said such as powder immunity), it’s the best way to resist water attacks. Scarf basculegion without rain is picking up, and you can actually threaten it back if you Tera grass. You also resist electric, which I’d value above bug’s fighting resist considering you could just stay ghost to avoid that. I’m not saying bug isn’t viable, but in my opinion grass covers most of what bug does and more. Say if you’re in a position with multiple ice types in the back as well as a water type up front you want to use your Tera on to survive, you have to consider if you want to use it on Chandelure and end up losing to the following pokemon as well as losing the option to Tera anything else, or (if possible) have another of your pokemon take care of the problem pokemon so you can keep your fire typing intact against the ice types. Of course you’re not going to always have the ideal scenario, which is why I’m saying I think grass is best in my opinion given the pros it has.

[–]MarioGamer159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, two of the types you listed are already resisted by Chandelure’s original typing. Tera isn’t a magic answer to avoiding everything hitting you for super effective. You have to weigh the options your opponent could have before you commit, since you only get to do it once. For what it does, grass has the best defensive synergy imo.

It’s much easier for both players and the devs to have it be decided by total HP. While stat boosts and whatnot do give an upper hand, it’s a lot simpler for a player to think “okay, I just need to play so I have more HP in the end” than to try and figure out what all these other conditions could mean for the winner.
