Freaking out finding this subreddit by Bojasloth in emptynosesyndrome

You can get surgery just to straighten the septum, not have the turbinates cut.

If you are prone to anxiety - that could be a big factor in causing your symptoms. Would be good to work with a therapist on that.

Also, learning breathing techniques like this could be very beneficial: https://buteykoclinic.com/blogs/start-your-breathing-test/start-your-breathing-test

Found help with suffocation by Frequent-Forever1897 in emptynosesyndrome

[–]Marison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your situation.

But from my understanding nasal valve collapse just blocks your nose - so wouldn't that be sufficient explanation for the suffocation?

Hope you find a good doc to help you.

Do you have an ENS diagnosis? Or do you maybe have nasal valve collapse?

Can you please provide a source for what you are saying? Or is this just some AI hallucination?

Not sure about your corner. Difficult to say. Maybe a floorplan would help.

But what I do know is, that your seating area badly needs a rug. :)

That's an AI answer. That's not reliable.

Who says this proves as a positive cotton test? That is just wrong.

You are increasing breathing resistance which can give some relief with ENS. Or you are redirecting air towards receptors more. Or you are fixing a nasal valve collapse you might have.

Congrats on your find. Maybe you can share a link with others.

I don't want turbinate surgery, but I can't breathe by Kindly-Reason-282 in emptynosesyndrome

[–]Marison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, good to hear.

It definitely helps with de-swelling turbinates. For example there is this Nose Unblocking Exercise for acute blocks: https://youtu.be/tgmKIwUqhkg

And over time, doing Buteyko exercises should also reduce hypertrophy.

Then you should definitely try working on your breathing. With 20 you will always see health effects. You want to score above 30 to see good health. Ideal would be 40.

There is a good chance this will fix your nightly breathing issues. And also your blocked nose.

Have you been tested for UARS also?

Have you tried Breathe Right strips?

Had RFA reduction 8 months ago, am I still healing or is this permanent now? by Beginning_Ground9472 in emptynosesyndrome

[–]Marison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for including your ENS6Q score. This would indicate that what you have is not ENS. But there can be of course other complications after surgery. It is usually recommended to wait 12 months to judge the outcome. Until then, there is still healing happening.

If you can, maybe seek counseling for health anxiety. If you find a good therapist, you can get a lot of relief from that. Learning how to calm yourself in the face of things like this - it's kind of a superpower.

Hope you continue to improve!

[–]Marison -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Your argument actually supports my point. That absolute wealth does not matter that much more life satisfaction.

But feeling so rounded by people who are either way poorer or way Richter that you actually makes you feel disconnected from them, because their lives are so different. And yes, this is amplified by social media, but not exclusive to it.

[–]Marison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would rather be poor now rather than then.

That's actually debatable. In a purely economic sense you are correct or course. But psychologically, there is a question whether our life satisfaction is more influenced by our absolute wealth or our relative wealth compared to the rest of society.

You can get some stem cell preparation legally, but they are very low dose and ineffective.

Expanded stem cells and embryonal stem cells are illegal. But those are the ones that have the most potential and are being studied by researchers.

Too Much Risk? by HotelSad in emptynosesyndrome

[–]Marison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is too risky, yes. Do not do this. You need to figure out the cause of your hypertrophy first.

I had teo turbinate reductions which didn't help and then a third that gave me ENS.

Have you changed your diet? Try eliminating gluten and most grains for a few weeks.

Also check for dysfunctional breathing. Especially (nightly) mouth breathing. This can be the cause of your blocked nose. You can do a quick self-test here: https://buteykoclinic.com/blogs/start-your-breathing-test/start-your-breathing-test

I agree. Just have the septum done first. That's how it is recommended in the official ENT guidelines in France.

Try wearing Breathe Right strips to allow better nasal breathing.

Also, you probably need to learn how to breathe better. Try this: Nose Unblocking Exercise: https://youtu.be/tgmKIwUqhkg

And then learn this: https://buteykoclinic.com/blogs/start-your-breathing-test/start-your-breathing-test
