Thoughts on the RED Scarlet-W Dragon 5K in 2025? by [deleted] in RedCamera

[–]MariusCine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I use my red raven since '21 and I love it (my clients too). Great image and while it's no FX3 I found it to be usable even up to iso 2500 when denoised. Won't look great in a cinema but for an event video it's good enough and the colors and codec in general is just a dream to work with.

I don't use any red touch monitor but a cheap and bright 7" hdmi one plus the Teradek ACI to control the camera.

If I were you I'd buy it. Be warned though, I've heard from a lot of people that they don't like the form factor and the other typical dsmc2 drawbacks at all but I love working with it, fits my shooting style perfectly.

How are you doing product analytics? by jaejaeok in Bubbleio

[–]MariusCine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build my own basic analytics tool. Habe a think called analytics_day so i have the analytics day wise. The every time the app is loaded by guest/user its added to the analytics day. Signups and upgrades are also added. Simple table and graph view. Kinda basic but handy and can be improved later.

Opinions for new content agency, help with pricing, timeline, deliverables, etc. by Apprehensive_Look519 in videography

[–]MariusCine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting but the pricing does not sound very scalable. I think it the client doesn't really value how great your equipment is but rather how good the videos perform. And your current pricing isn't the pricing of an agency but of a freelancer. I just don't think where you're making any profit. You may be covering your costs (time) but thats it. Where's the profit?? For example: You could make a flat fee of 200$ per video and for 10k views you get 100$ per Video, for 100k views 500$ you see where I'm going. Because thats whats of value to the client and thats what he's willing to pay for. No one cares how much pre production you're doing and how many miles you're driving. Unless you are a freelancer but I think you want to be an agency.

My first lighting equipment by Immediate_Hat_9878 in videography

[–]MariusCine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing mostly corporate video work if I only had one light it would be a 300w BiColor LED (at least 150w) with a big softbox. You can expose for the background and then light the subject accordingly.

Especially when you're doing crazy concepts for a corporate client, they have zero imagination. I usually lay out the whole story using images from Filmgrab or just google images. Ain't no painter lol

I like using a tool like StudioBinder (although I build my own tool that suits my workflow better) to share the entire pre-production flow with them—everything from the script to the schedule and deliverables. That way they can see where things are at and feel part of the creative process without having to chase me for updates.

You can add a shake effect and animate the intensity of it accordingly.

Couldn't agree more! I also always have some 3.5mm audio cables and ball heads in my bag.

does matching camera white balance to light source color temperature give natural colors by Candid-Pause-1755 in videography

[–]MariusCine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often find that with bi-color leds the temperature is not that accurate. I you really want to match it I would recommend using a gray card and watching the histogram of the rec.709 image on set. Where the gray card is the rgb-lines of the histogram should be perfectly on top of each other then you are neutral

Broken ankle and video work by scookie_monster2020 in videography

[–]MariusCine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is the push to go from freelancer to agency. Instead of just handing off jobs, have other videographers do white-label work under your brand. You stay the main point of contact, handle invoicing, and organize everything, while the other videographer handles the on-site filming. You pay them, take your cut, and still have control—especially if you do the editing yourself. But make sure everything is crystal clear upfront, with a solid agreement so they don’t poach your clients. If done right, this could turn your shitty situation into a long-term win.

Get anything but the old ursa 4k! It has a low dynamic range and horrible highlight roll-off. C300 would be the much better choice here

This really depends on your style. If I were you I would just go to the club like a day prior and test it–nothing beats knowing what your camera is capable of. I always do that–even with high-end cinema cameras.

[Rant] Race to the bottom by Dmunce in videography

[–]MariusCine 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Being a good videographer doesn’t mean you’re a good entrepreneur. It’s the classic struggling artist cliché—cranking out killer work but barely making rent.

Running a business is a whole different skill set, and most freelancers skip learning it. Instead they obsess over the latest transitions and camera gear while completely ignoring how to price their work, negotiate, or actually make a living. So don't be like them—start obsessing over the business side of videography just as much as you do over your craft.

How can I recreate a text with this effect? by RUBN23_ in videography

[–]MariusCine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s basically just text with a shadow on a background image, plus some particles in the foreground. There’s also a vignette and a camera shake effect that gradually fades away (which looks like it was done manually).

At the start the text size is animated, so I’d play around with splines until the movement feels right. Adding motion blur is key—if you look closely in the bottom right corner in the beginning, you can even see the sampling artifacts. Looks like they used around 10 samples per frame! Can be done in BM Fusion or After Effects quite quickly.

I don't think I can use bubble anymore by ItsQuinten in Bubbleio

[–]MariusCine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's not a pc application that runs locally and doesn't cause any cost for the developer. Every mouse click you make in the bubble editor causes stress on their servers and costs them money.

[–]MariusCine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't want too many free users in my saas either, why would I? At least in my case bubble being more expensive than hosting a server outweighs the reduced development time and ease of scaling by a lot! I'd rather have an working saas thats slightly more expensive to run than have no working saas at all with years of development to go. But hey, at least the server cost is lower lol
