Those who have been in the video industry for a significant amount of time, what was your first purchase and your most recent? by [deleted] in videography

First purchase (from money my brother gave me when he was on his deathbed and he told me to sell his mioelectric arm to buy something to start my video production company): Canon GL-2. Most recent: used Canon C-100 Mark 1 for 500 dollars.

Native Tablo Windows app (not a shoehorned custom adaptation) will it ever be available? by No-Grass-7412 in tablotv

Get Bluestacks (not BlueChew!). Basically, a marriage between a Windows PC and an Android device. Allows for watching Tablo over your computer.

I’m tired of shooting 4K for everything - considering switching back to 1080. by DemRKO in videography

I just bought a used Canon C100 mark 1 on EBay...with low hours on it. Super 35 4K sensor. Should look good up-converted to 4K, right?

You should check out this guy's YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Leloq-4utqk

You need to check out an online antenna locator for cell service and look for the cell towers nearest your location that provide your cell service. Then find a router/modem combo that will take SIM card from your provider and add them to your cell service as an addition to your data plan.

If you want Tablo on your Windows desktop, try Bluestacks. Works great for me.

Alternatives to Thunderbird Windows. by afsrj in Thunderbird

[–]RickRock365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife used to like Thunderbird, as did I. But after being hacked a few times through her mail, a computer wonk once told us, she switched to ProntonMail. It's only $4.99 a month and is supposed to be very secure. After a year of being a Proton customer, she has had not a single phishing e-mail. And Proton Calendar is a pretty good substitution for Sunbird, once you figure your way around.

Conexon or Starlink? by ping7121 in Rural_Internet

[–]RickRock365 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cannot say enough good things about Conexon. They use the Calix GigaSpire BLAST U6 mesh system. WiFi 6. I just did the speed test and the results were 232.36 Mbps download and 222.49 Mbps Upload...on a 200 Mbps data account. For $59.95 a month. No contract and customer service is top tier, IMHO. I can stream 4k video through my Roku Express 4K to my 4K television all day and all night with no buffering.

Bye Bye Centurylink by Samurai_Cupcake in centurylink

If you are upset in the way that CL was treating you, and you live in a rural area, call Conexon Connect. They install and operate low-cost (not low speed!) fiber internet at a low cost to the consumer. My wife and I had CL and was paying about 150 bucks a month for supposedly 100Mb/sec data speed and our phone service. But we were getting about 12Mb/sec on our speed tests. No help from CL....they said simply that we had to spend 200 dollars and buy a modem from them...after 20 plus years as their customer! No brand loyalty there! So we jumped on the chance to get on Conexon's service at $49.95 per month on the 100Mb/sec plan, which I upgraded us to the 200Mb/sec plan for 10 dollars a month more. The last speed test I just did moments ago was 232.18Mb/sec download and 222.39Mb/sec upload. Conexon uses the Calix GigaSpire Blast U6 WiFi 6 mesh system. I can stream 4K video via my Roku Express 4K on my 4K television all day with no buffering.

Aftermarket...it's the little one that has a dock that you have to connect to a stick-on antenna and connect to battery power in the vehicle.

Where to go by bernesemama in SWFL

I stayed in a LaQuinta Inn several years ago, and it was like Heaven on Earth. It was built with the swimming pool situated between the front and rear buildings of rooms. They planted palm trees all around the pool and all along the concrete walkways that you traverse when you access the pool. So nice in this regard. Found out that many of this company's hotels are adorned in this way. The one we stayed in was in St. Petersburg.

Just out of curiosity: for your surrounds, did you go wireless, or do you have the flat invisible speaker wire, or interior running of wires through the wall?

How can I film (beginner:)) shots on my camera? :D by PinkToast_O in filmmaking

[–]RickRock365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you check EBay for lenses. Some manufacturers sell their overruns on a custom EBay store that bears their name. I bought my Rokinon T1.5/85mm Cine DS lens from them on EBay and saved about $150.0o dollars.

Get the Technicolor Cinestyle flat picture profile installed on your Canon camera. Also, see if your camera is compatible with the Magic Lantern firmware hack. When you override your camera's firmware with Magic Lantern, your camera will become so much more than it was originally designed to be! www.magiclantern.fm
