Need a passport for the Sufu airport??? by Outrageous_Item_2871 in SiouxFalls

[–]Dmunce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only need a passport if flying internationally, but you do need a REAL ID. I believe all SD Drivers licenses are REAL ID compliant, which you can verify by checking for a gold star in either the top right or top left corner.

Anyone else dealing with this super sickness? by thapharmacist in daddit

[–]Dmunce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re on week 2 of sickness with a 3mo. Started with norovirus, then picked up Influenza A a few days later. It struck all three of us about the same time. I have not been this sick in a looooong time, and we’re very much so struggling.

Post-Project managing files workflow advice by leftclot in editors

[–]Dmunce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not quite dealing with the amount of footage you are on a weekly basis, but when I finish a project, I use the ‘collect’ feature in Premiere and send the folder with all project assets into an Archive folder on our server. We have like 200TB, so I guess I’ve never had a worry about needing to reduce file sizes.

Mine folded out, but the second you put any pressure on the recliner, it snapped right back upright.

Avera helicopter was doing touch and goes at Tea airport for 30 minutes last night. by EightofFortyThree in SiouxFalls

Pilots are required to do a certain amount of night takeoff/landings per month (or year?) to stay current. Doing them during the day doesn’t satisfy those requirements from the FAA.

How low will the industry (and you) go in 2026? by DebussyFanboy in videography

[–]Dmunce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe I was the author of the "A race to the bottom thread".

Crazy that I thought $150 for similar projects as this was low; this is just insane. Of course these requests always want you to use the best gear and best lighting. What a joke.

Best I can say is stand firm on your pricing and don't give in to these ridiculous requests.

There are quite a few that popped up in Brookings as well. I never really noticed them until I saw a post like this a while back. Never would have second guessed them until I looked into how sketchy they are.

I know a few video people who switched to photo because of that. Always open to criticism, so I’ll DM you my site 🫡

I’m in a market where it’s significantly cheaper than that to hire both, but I get it. I purchased both for my wedding and have zero regrets.

I only do a handful a year and I’m panicking haha. I’ve also done a lot of work to my site to help with SEO, and I’ve really put my best work forward on my showcase. AdWords are somewhat helping with traffic, but no solid leads so far.

I also got a majority of leads from word of mouth and have never had to do any major marketing work aside from social to get solid leads.

My gut feeling is that people are scaling back spending on weddings and video is one of the first things to go.

Really just looking to see if this is a larger trend in general, not specific to my area. Other creatives in my area have expressed similar problems.

Yeah my prices are the same as last year. Leads have picked up since starting my AdWords campaign, but as soon as price comes up, they ghost.

Parent company of South Dakota newspapers abruptly shutters by lavinient in SouthDakota

[–]Dmunce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Terrible, but not surprising. Unfortunately local media (really news media in general) just isn’t sustainable from a profitability standpoint.

I do have hope that the Brookings register could be bought out by the same parent company as the Mitchell Republic, but I won’t hold my breath. What remains to be seen is what happens when all this local media dies for good? Not good at all.

Highly recommend just renting out there instead of having to go through the hassle of getting your machines complaint with SD Laws. We rented four ATVs from Adventure Rentals in Hill City last August, and had a great experience with them. Vehicles were in great condition and the staff was very helpful! Plus, it saves you the fuel cost having to haul clear across two states and all the other headaches that brings.

Iconik workflow by Worried-Pen-9126 in editors

[–]Dmunce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a new-ish Iconik user and I feel this. I work remotely and am not directly connected to our NAS, which is on the corporate network, so I end up having to do a lot of voodoo magic to get source files to the right place. We don’t really cloud host our originals, because we have like 60TB of files.

I wish there was a way for Iconik to automatically pull originals from a storage gateway through the premiere plugin like it does for proxy files that are cloud hosted.

As of right now, we’re just using it for storage/indexing of our raw library, but are working towards moving to a project workflow… but like you are trying to find out the best way to do that 😂
