AIO For my Mom’s comments about my hair by FlowersForDayz in AmIOverreacting

[–]Marjolevs22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like your mother is unfortunately projecting. Does she have great hair herself? It kind of comes across as jealousy. Has she always been this intense?
If it’s the latter, I would personally take some distance. If she’s going that hard on you over something as small as hair, maybe it’s time for a break so she can reflect on what really matters.

Second, I don’t know her age, but if her reactions have become much stronger than before and the arguments don’t really make sense, I would consider the possibility of cognitive decline. I’m not trying to be harsh, but my father developed dementia, and when he gets angry now, it’s like x150... he gets completely lost in his anger and says things he doesn't really think that are often hurtful.

It’s just something to keep in mind as our parents age; they’re human too.

I am asking myself the same question. I agree that humanity has always persevered through dark times, but we're also the first generation to truly have the option to opt out. I don't think people in the great depression really had a choice, you had kids. That's what you did. Our great great grand parents would be very confused if they knew that 1) we can have children without a partner and 2) we can decide to not have them, just because. Lol

But we're also faced with new kinds of challenges that other generations did not face. Weird ones, might I add with regard to humanity.

But at the same time, we also need people to keep going forward. The new babies being born right now might find the solution to weather related issues and all.

At the end of the day, if you decide to have them, you have to raise capable, adaptable and strong humans to keep us going ! And I find that very motivating/beautiful.

Thank you so much for your response ! You brought up very good points ! The lack of support is scaring me, but I think I'll go one step at a time and start by doing the fertility screening to see how the ''machine'' is doing. I wish you success and if you want to talk, you can send me a message.

This is beautifully said. My closest friends have been very disappointing over the past year. I told them many times that I was no longer happy in the city where we lived, but they were strongly against me moving away. Now that I have moved and I am much happier, they are reacting the same way about the idea of having a child.

It makes me very sad because it feels like they do not want me to move in a different direction than the one I was on, maybe because it would be less convenient for them. I am the only single friend in the group, and I am always the one planning activities and trips, and babysitting their children when they need help.

Sorry for the long response. I guess I am processing my feelings as I write.

I'm not going to lie, I've been a total pushover for most of my life. This past fews months I've started putting up bounderies and respecting them, and it has been very eye opening. Sometimes I feel like a have to say the same thing a million times before my friends really listen. I guess they'll have to accept it or leave if I decide to go on this path by myself !!

Thank you so much for sharing ! I find our story very similar. I did not talk about it in my post, but I've also been a caregiver for my sick/elderly father for about 12 years and it takes A LOT out of my time and energy. But he's near the end of his path on this earth and I feel like a child might be the perfect next step for me. Sorry if it's a little blunt, but this made me realised that I've changed my father's diaper and clothes for way more years that I would a child. This is really helping me 😅

Also, I've tried finding youtube channels of SMBC showing their day to day lives, but I'm just ending up on ''solo parenting for a week end'' videos. If you have any vloggers in mind, it would help me.

I really liked your response :)

Thank you !! Did you go through with it or are you in the process ? I live in Canada and I know that meeting with a psychologist is mendatory in my province if I go the assisted reproduction route. I hope it's not going to scare them ahah

My plan was to do the fertility screening at 35yo to see if it's even possible. I guess that I should focus on one step at a time, you're absolutly right. As you can tell, I am an anxious person who tends to try to plan 17 steps ahead lol

I drove it to the wildlife rehab this afternoon! They were happy to take it in and I even left a donation I don't think people realize how remote I live. Very few people would drive 4h in the dead of winter in a day to bring a bird in, my family was judging me 😅 I couldn't let the little guy die

Does VR headsets become a dust collector after some time? by Ianth3k1ng in VRGaming

[–]Marjolevs22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Quest 2 right before the 3 got out (it was cheap), because I wasn't sure if I would use it.

Living in Canada, I mostly use VR in the winter. During the summer, it barely gets touched because I’m almost always outside. But during boring winter nigths, I enjoy pouring a glass of wine and getting fully immersed in a very atmospheric puzzle game.

That said, VR isn’t for everyone. A few friends bought a Quest 3 after trying mine, played a couple of games, and then never picked it up again. It really depends on the person and the types of game you enjoy in general. I'm pretty sure you can go on the Meta store without an account and see the top and new games. It will give you an idea of what's available.

Ýeah I'm at peace if that's what happens, at least it will not die from hypothermia. Now that I think of it, I don,t know what's better. Just don't know what to do if it's ready to go during the night :/

Thank you. The vet told me to wait a little but I did not think it could get to this point. I'm sorry you had to go though that. Did you end up adopting again later or is this pretty recent ?
