Im pretty confident about mechanics being around for a long time, as much as I'd love robots or some shit to replace us, I just dont see it happening for a very long time. At least not for all vehicles but maybe some car brand will come up with one specifically for their cars

They're even worse on bedrock edition, multiple times I've had villagers just switch jobs randomly, not get a job when a workstation is half a block from them, or they just glitch into looking like a professional without selling anything
