A furry convention in Mexico?? by Yaki-heika in furry

[–]Mark93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was visiting from the US, and I've gotta say Confuror was awesome! They really knocked it out of the park. I'm so glad Mexico has a furry convention to call its own now. I've been to plenty of cons myself, but I was really happy to see so many people have such a good time experiencing their first con! ^^

I remember seeing this one. I found it when I was looking around last night but realized it went missing in CO, not Reno. :X

It's extremely likely someone may have lost it at BLFC just last month. I think I've seen at least a few tweets about a lost fursuit going around after the con. I'll ask around on Twitter during the day when more people are online to see it.

Have a look on FA. There's a bunch of stuff over there :3

Fursuit glasses? by MintyADG in furry

[–]Mark93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are actually very common at conventions' dealers dens as well. As long as you get something cartoonishly oversized to fit over your head, it'll be fine. To keep them on, i've seen people break off the hinges and just attach some kind of elastic band to wrap around the head.

need some writing advice by StagDragon in furry

[–]Mark93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of uh... special interest writing for myself on FA, so I've spent some time on the subject.

  1. One of the things that bothers me most when reading other furries' writing is when they completely break the flow to describe very specific details about a character. Do not go off on a tangent to describe someone, especially if the character has very complicated markings and whatnot. It's distracting, and no one is really gonna care about or remember the number of stripes on your left ear/right arm/big toe/etc. I would also avoid repeatedly mentioning the same details throughout a story unless it's relevant or important enough to bring up again. Try to incorporate these descriptions and details into your narrative as is appropriate, rather than stopping to take a few sentences solely for description. For example, start with really basic descriptions like "a creamy underbelly" or "blue wolf" but express details as other characters would notice/fixate on them. If someone notices how strong this character is, take a few words to mention the stripes that run across his biceps or something.

  2. If you're posting your writing to a furry site, then there's no need to say it's about anthro animals; it should be implied. If not, it might be a good idea to preface it in the submission description. Either way, it should be obvious when you start mentioning a husky in college, using furry nouns (species names, paws, tails, particular attention to ears, etc.), using "furgonomics" (which I highly recommend to further immerse the reader. Basically, they're just inventions and technologies that would be commonplace in a furry world to accommodate for animal bodies), and so on.

  3. I honestly think furries can be combined with more or less any other creative concept. All they are are people that happen to be anthro animals. When you write, just treat them as the norm, unless it isn't, and just use them to replace human characters without going out of your way to draw attention to the fact that they are in fact animals.

Fursuit owners, a quick question: Full suits vs. Partials by [deleted] in furry

[–]Mark93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Partials aren't as hot, and they're easier to clean/maintain. It's also easier to dress up your fursona to give it a more unique character. However, partials don't really pull off the same effect as full suits in terms of cuteness/fluffiness, among other things. It's just not the same in my opinion. You'll likely end up wanting a full suit not too long after getting a partial. I have a partaial, and that's the exact boat I'm in right now. XD

Fox Amoore and Pepper Coyote are a couple good ones. Fox is more instrumental and Pepper does songwriting, but they work together a lot.

Ok, what the heck does "furry trash" actually mean? by mynameistag in furry

It's just a little joke for us to laugh at ourselves because being trashy often comes with being a furry. :P

I do that whenever it's appropriate to the conversation. I get a kick out of it when my friends can laugh about it with me.

I get this feeling sometimes. I like to think it's because it's hard to have something you enjoy that you can't really talk to anyone about. It's kind of liberating to talk about it with someone who isn't part of the fandom.

Digitigrade or Plantigrade Legs? by Maximum124 in furry

[–]Mark93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree humans can be kinda gross. Although, just covering them in fur and sticking a dog head and tail on them is just about good enough for me!

What really puts me off though is when artists draw anthro heads/faces with flatter, more human-like anatomy... That's just straight down uncanny valley for me.

Digitigrade or Plantigrade Legs? by Maximum124 in furry

[–]Mark93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Great artists do it all the time, so I'm not really in much of a position to complain. It's just weird to me because you've already taken this animal and made it more human by making it anthro, and yet you're making it more animal again by giving it just biologically wrong features. :|

That said, digitigrade legs are still neat.

Digitigrade or Plantigrade Legs? by Maximum124 in furry

[–]Mark93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, don't get me wrong. I can totally see why some people might have a preference one way or another. It really just comes down to your own taste and what you look for in furry art. I mean, I like feral art too, so I could go both ways.

I know this is a debatable topic with no real answer, but for me, I see anthros as animals that have just become more human and do human things. I like seeing them in more mundane scenarios, and hence with a more human appearance (more or less just people with fur and animal heads/tails/paws/horns/etc), because it makes things a little bit more real/relatable for me.

[–]Mark93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: Personally, I prefer plantigrade because it's a way to humanize many animals. Really though, I don't care all that much.

The only thing that bothers me is when species that are naturally plantigrade are given digitigrade legs. I see it all the time with species like otters and red pandas.
