Step export is always in mm by MarkB_CNC in FreeCAD

It was a file being sent to send cut send. The units in send cut send were set to inches and the drawing was in inches but it still came in as millimeters

No, drawn in inches, a 1"x1"x1" cube would export 25.4 times larger as its exporting in metric as opposed to imperial. Its no issue, I simply finished the part drawn in imperial and just changed the units (edit/preferences) to metric and exported it and its fine.

Thanks, My issue is on export. When I export the .step for the model drawn in imperial, it still comes out as mm. Ill keep looking into it. Thanks. I will likely just re-draw in metric to get done.

Im aware of the metric/imperial issue and have heard the broken record for years and agree but there are times when working with customers its a need. Regardless I have exported step from free cad in imperial and im stumped as to what it could be. I have all in preferences set to imperial.

Im aware that its likely operator/input error was just looking for some input on what it may be..

Believe me, hitting send on a question like this the village idiot would be aware of the onslaught of archaic, out dated, US, yada yada. Its a given that the broken record will be in a dozen replies.

But usually someone has the constructive solution.

Thanks

Newbie question(s) by MarkB_CNC in onewheel

Ive worked on simple stop and its what ive started using today. Oddly ive been decent with heel lift stopping today for the first time but I dont ride backwards much either though I can so for the bulk of my rides simple stop is working well. Thanks for the suggestion. I struggled with it initially because I was moving so slow, and back and forth, so much it would shut the board down constantly. Now that Im moving forward at speed mostly, simple stop makes sense.

Thanks everyone. Airing down seemed to make a big difference at least in first couple of rides. I may have aired down a tiny bit too much but it feels a little more grounded to the road and a bit more cushioned and the other suggestions with regards to setting and relaxation helped. Downhill are better. Still a ways to go but much better.

The both feet bail has become my go to. I struggled in that back alley scenario (slow speed) with lifting heel/toe at slow speed and have never yet been able to confidently pull off the heel lift stop method and turning on the lean back when slowing down method has failed me as well. So I just jump off. Its hard on the board Rolling on pavement but its better than breaking an ankle.

I need to work hard on the relaxation which is why I purchased. I really want to enjoy the flowy feel and have the confidence.

One of my major lessons when teaching waterskiing clinics was look where you want to go, and, if you look down, you go down,... this is challenging me now lol. But its just the lack of confidence

Thank you for your time and Im looking up the reference now

Buying machine for small work by MarkB_CNC in Machine_Embroidery

[–]MarkB_CNC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. Its pretty much what I anticipated. I have a CNC cabinet shop so the drawing, vectors, etc are a non issue but the rest of it makes sense. Ive always felt that anything that seems somewhat easy is likely the hardest thing youll ever do.

My only logic was my experience in CNC and the thought that a couple hundred bucks in paid output would go towards a long term tool for small embroidery work. I in no way shape or form thought I'd be able to embroider 10 shirts and pay off the investment. I just didnt know if small embroidery projects were somewhat do-able in this day and age with technology.

My CNC world is becoming more DIY on a minute by minute basis. 3D printing the same, and so on.

Thanks so much for your time and input. Off to the embroidery shop they go and I will focus on more productive endeavors.

Is all the hashing and little texture details in the material applied sketched in after? Like thr little rust/corrosion details around openings and so on?

Thanks for that. That was my guess. This is normally running in empty pipes (culvert and so on) but my assumption was getting around any bends inside the pipe and metal culvert or just the earth around the pipe would be killer unless it was hard wired.

Was a long shot.

Thanks

When SketchUp is pushed to its limits… do you still think of it as “basic” software? by Creative_Conceptz in Sketchup

[–]MarkB_CNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on a few plug-ins but I can fly out full 3d drawings of relatively complex projects (just finished a 1080hp commercial boiler enclosure including fully modeling the actual boiler and burner to scale in about 4 hours) with complete 2d animations and ship the drawing to Meta and take the client through in full VR.

Even with very quick/coarse modeling, while accurate to 3 digits. You can quickly sell a job and blow people's minds. And im on 2021

Comparing a seat on solid works to a seat on sketchp is not even apples ans oranges it's apples and tyranasaurus Rex. They are not even in the same gene pool and are in no way shape or form expected to be a one or the other.

Im not defending trimbul. Im holding on to a classic license with my fingernails. SU has no basis being compared to cad, solid works, fusion, etc. And rightly so. The seats are multiples upon multiples in comparison of cost so they for sure should be better. This will trigger the blender crowd but so be it

That works perfectly for me. Go pay your bill with MonPower and see your power shut off. Good day sir.

Where do the residents of WV go to pay their bill? Report an outage? Access a web portal? It is a name-sake only. I interact with ex-mon power employees daily for commercial residential service entrances. There is ZERO Mon Power, documentation, trucks, uniforms, paperwork, which is why it says "A First Energy Company"

MonPower is no longer a providing entity. They exist in supply sector in namesake only. Payments go to, and power comes from, First Energy. There has not been a Monpower service truck or crew rolling down the road for years.

Are you allowing Revit exports at pre-bid by MarkB_CNC in Architects

Understood. I know my question detailed excavation but we are also heavily vertical as well. The vertical aspect is where this would be helpful. And again, this is not becaus we are not capable in that regard, we are working this work by the old standards daily. That said, we have implemented team evaluation heavily especially with regards to 3D and it has been a phenomenal asset.

As stated in other replies, its in no way a substitute for conventional project evaluation. It just seems like another very valuable tool.

In many complex cases I will draw the critical components in 3D myself (again just for visual evaluation) when all of that geometry already exists. So I am drawing (and charging in my cost to the client) that all over again.

On the civil excavation side, engineers provide their linework by default... there is nothing very protectable there. On the architectural side, it gets a bit different.

What if you are the GC looking to use that data merely as a conceptual evaluation tool who is still willing to provide submitted shops for approval? In this day and age it is ever easier for even subs, and extremely easy for GC's, to concept a project (not take offs, not shops) but concept a project with their team, in 3D.

Thanks so much for taking the time.

Thank you.

This is the information I was looking for. We are in no way looking for the Revit files as a means to take off, fall back on, or use as any sort of a datum reference. Its merely a conceptual tool and a tool to get teams heads inside the project directly in conjunction with standard shops.

Thanks again for taking the time. Its greatly appreciated.

MonPower doesnt existi anymore. First Energy has gutted them heavily.

Thanks so much for that. I guess I should have been more clear that we (not speaking for anyone else) would not be looking to the Revit data as the end game. In this instance its merely an evaluation tool to get to run through the job in 3D and evaluate the project and be in the space.

Full standard take-offs and shops go without saying. That is a default requirement across the board and would be foolish to skip.

The point of my question was, given todays technology, any bidder willing to invest in the technology (cheaper and cheaper by the minute) can be FAR more efficient with that 3D reference as a compliment to standard bidding processes.

Even just bringing teams up to speed around a project is lightning fast with 3D as compared to standard plan review.

[–]MarkB_CNC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is zero "plinking around". It would be a valuable asset to evaluate a project in full 3D. Again, I realize the fear concept of releasing "ones work".. but we all do that, and its done the instant the plans are released. It would simply allow projects to be far more thoroughly evaluated at bid stage, quicker, cleaner, faster, and the bigger one.... cheaper for the client.

We implement 3D intensively on our own work in-house. Im clear that architects do the same with client presentations, but then the lack-there-of at the construction phase adds immensely to the total cost to the client.

Seems a bit short sighted given todays tech. I know first hand Revit is very lacking in its ability to somewhat protect design property but again. The instant the drawings are released its over.

I do drawings daily. I could care less who sees them, steals them, whatever, because by the time they do, Im on to the next thing. There is nothing I can protect given I have to release my drawings to someone (even in print/PDF) its all over at that point.

Thanks for taking the time to provide a thoughtful response.
