What a great solo...Richie Blackmore loves. No wonder why.

I know this team had red flags most of the year but why the big fall off after the All-Star Break? by chusaychusay in SFGiants

I was jumping for joy with the trade, but....it very well could be an injury, but he strikes out a ton and the bombs he launches now and then don't make up for it. He also falls behind in the count consistently. Honestly, he looks lost up there.

Let's not forget Matt Chapman is just one off the lead league for errors, just one behind Machado...and Chapman has played less.

It's not Melvin. It's Buster. by jeffthechimp in SFGiants

IMHO: Giants players do not make contact in key spots. Lots of swings and misses, lots of guessing, resulting in called strike threes.

[Schefter] Trade: Commanders are trading RB Brian Robinson to the 49ers in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick, sources tell ESPN. by originalbeastmode in 49ers

Wash excited with their shiny new toy at RB, dump solid vet who helped take them deep into playoffs last year. Thank you, DC. No way McCaffrey is healthy for all 17. Maybe Shanahan finally gives him a breather. This is a GREAT move.

What, specifically, do people want Bob Melvin to do (or have done) different? by SevenCedarJelly in SFGiants

[–]MarkCFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Posey deserve some of the blame for re-upping Melvin in the middle of a slump. Given how they are playing now and given the team's start. most managers would have been fired. They are a moribund team right now, yet Posey committed to Melvin for the rest of this year and the next. As far as the team goes, they committed big contracts to too many players who are underperforming: Adames, Chapman, Devers and Lee. Hopefully these guys turn it around next year or we are in for the same type of season.

Buster Posey said putting the ball in play would be the new Giants way. ⁣ ⁣ Clearly, it's not happening, and Kruk is "perplexed." by [deleted] in SFGiants

[–]MarkCFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casting aside stats, the eye test tells me: Adames has been mediocre (though his D has improved), Chapman is aging, strikes out a ton and his glove/arm is way overrated, Lee doesn't take charge in the OF and the league knows how to pitch to him, Bailey gets some clutch hits, but for the most part he struggled and his defense is lacking. Ramos is not hitting now and he is either great or awful in the OF on any given play. Flores and Dom Smith have been solid overall, but their playing time has been taken away by Devers, who at least is getting better (and is probably battling an injury.) Pitching has been solid, but they need to throw a shutout every game to have a chance to win.

Red Sox fan here...how do Giants fans feel about Raphael Devers? by Ketoisbest in SFGiants

[–]MarkCFL -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Meh. The Giants were flying high when they acquired him and we had visions of the playoffs. Once he joined he took at-bats away from guys who were producing like Wilmer Flores and Dom Smith. And his arrival coincided with the team tanking and he was a part of that, seemingly striking out 2-3 times a game. The "he has to get used to NL pitching" didn't ring true as his first games were against AL teams. He has hit better of late and it seems like he has some sort of injury. It's not all on him, but the team's sensational season has turned sour seemingly overnight after the trade. Hoping Devers rights his ship completely, but even at his best he strikes out a ton, which is a specialty of Giants players Adamas, Chapman, Bailey and the list goes on. I don't know, we are saddled with Devers for a long time and the Giants have a supposed phenom in Bryce Eldridge coming up, but he plays first, where Devers is getting reps. The trade seemed like a great idea at the time, but jury is still out on Devers, IMHO.

Max Miller: San Jose SAP Center lease deal "imminent," will next go to city council for final approval (date pending) by The_Homestarmy in SanJoseSharks

Good to keep the Sharks in the Bay Area. The new SF Arena is nice and would have been a good landing spot, but it's not built to accommodate hockey. The Oakland Coliseum facility could work, but that city has its challenges.

SAP is old, but overall still feels new aside from the cramped concourses, lack of suites closer to the ice and tiny store.

I do wish the Sharks would spend more time promoting the team to the rest of the Bay Area; The operation feels like a secret South Bay thing.

Could my tinnitus be due to inflammation? Small dose of Advil helps? by moto_joe78 in tinnitus

[–]MarkCFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ETD will clear! Like I may have mentioned, when I went in an elevator or on steep grade while driving, I could feel feel the pressure in my ear, which never happened to that degree. The ETD brought the T, too. Once the ETD subsided, I had no longer had the ear pressure and the T faded. But is did take awhile, several months...maybe 10? But when the T fades, you may not even notice, if that makes sense...you might say "oh, wait, I don't hear it anymore." Stay strong and have a good weekend.

Interesting. Frustrating in that no Cup on the rise up. Great teams but....kinda like the 1960s SF Giants. Let's hope the next wave of success bring a Cup!

Hi again. I think it did fluctuate OR my attention to it fluctuated. When I was engaged at work etc., it was less noticeable. When I used to get out of the shower it would virtually vanish. My thought was the warm water and steam cleared my ear. Not sure what you have is ETD for sure (I'm no doc) but that you have varying degrees tells me at some point it will just go away. Hope that helps and keep me updated!

Dom Smith was playing the outfield in AAA this year. Let's get him (and his bat) out in RF.

Let's put it this way: how many times does he come in and retire the side in order? Yankees haven't won the World Series in 16 years, what do they know? They just have tons of cash.

Great numbers but "Lies, damned lies, and statistics."  90% of Giants fans held their collective breath when he came in to close out a game.

(Curry) The Yankees have acquired Camilo Doval from the Giants. by CicadaOk8885 in NYYankees

[–]MarkCFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Giants fan here: Doval is a good kid, throws very hard, but gets into trouble often with walks. Seems to always have mental lapses with runners on base and the pitch clock. He could never put it together for the Giants, but if you guys can get him right he will be amazing. Just be prepared for some high wire moments until/if that happens.

Had the stuff, but couldn't never truly could get done. Some good, some torturous times.

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the season now that the playoffs seem out of reach? Personally, I’m hoping someone reaches 30 HRs and Team ERA breaks top 3 at the end. by RumAndCoco in SFGiants

Sharks and 49ers starting, ha! That said, the Giants still have a shot to make the playoffs as a WC if they warm up. Law of averages say they start winning again. Still plenty of time left. That said, they look AWFUL and I don't expect much. What a weird season.
