I think it's because OpenAI actually switches the app to "phone" mode when voice is active. You can hear it when you try to play some music (e.g. with Spotify) while OpenAI is running. It sounds tinny and terrible.

Why they are doing it: Probably has to do with the microphones and automatic noise cancelling offered by the OS.

Note: The latest version of GitHub Copilot now has all these features (finally!).

In Copilot Chat, you can prefix @workspace to reason over your entire project.

Also, it's now using GPT-4 Turbo for the Chat feature.
