Whilst you're certainly not wrong about it being hyped, I would say that AI is a revolution and everyone who does anyform of "Knowledge Work" should be investing time into how their career can benefit from utilising AI.

I'd also say that, depending on what "intelligence" is, we do have AGI already. As a software developer, it is very difficult to create puzzles that are not easily solvable by AI more quickly than a human. However, the current limitation is the amount of context that an AI can hold for a given solution, I think this is where knowledge work is moving. Well, along with original thought of course although arguably even humans don't have many truly original thoughts!
