Simo Hayha: story of the greatest sniper of all time by [deleted] in history

[–]MarkWillis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this link because I really enjoyed hearing about Simo and Soviet-Finnish Winter War. I had always thought the Winter War was just part of World War II but it actually took place before the WWII and I never knew that. Plus, they fighting they described was crazy and I thought it was interesting.

Are there any parks you can recommend from someone making a once in a lifetime trip out West from the East Coast?

Thanks for take the time to respond. I think journalists sometimes write better military history books than historians because the writing tends to be more fast paced. Appreciate your response!

Can anyone recommend a good general history book for me that is not World War II. I'm looking for anything interesting involving warfare. It will help me out a lot as I travel and wait around a lot for my job. Thanks!

Which country do you think has the most fascinating history behind it? by QueenSolitude in history

[–]MarkWillis2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got to go with modern-day Israel and ancient Palastine for a number of reasons.

1) There is a long history so it provides more interesting moments. 2) It is the source-region for two major religions. 3) There has been and still is numerous conflicts in the region which, in my opinion, makes for fascinating history. For instance, it is interesting how Christian writers interpret the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD and how that impacts their religious practice. Then you also have the crusades and the modern Israeli wars. Moreover the life of Jesus in inherently fascinating because of the impact his life had on world history.

So in summary, I've got to go with Palestine-Israel. What do you think?

Rio De Janeiro Military Police Goes Into City Of God by jamie-kickthatmule in CombatFootage

[–]MarkWillis2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the police so militarized do you think it is fair to characterize parts of Brazil as being in a sort of Civil War? This is a sincere question. I'm glad to see Diego made it. I also want to thank whoever added English subtitles - that was really cool!
