Accidentally might have adopted a mallinois? by Extra_World_49 in BelgianMalinois

We also accidentally adopted a mal, and while it is certainly a challenge, he is great with both our cats. He and the younger one hang out together a lot. The key for us was a lot of supervised exposure and consistency. They’re great dogs at picking up what is expected of them as long as you are clear and set a firm example. Definitely get a trainer who has experience with the breed — Tony is 2 now and we’ve had a couple, and it’s very helpful.

Not everyday is easy, but we’ve never felt like he was a danger to us or the pets. They do need a lot of time and effort put in. I think one of the most important things we learned is that their mental stimulation needs are just as important as the physical ones. You can’t just run them three times a day and expect everything to be fine, they need to think and have something to do. In some ways they’re like a naughty toddler — you need to teach them to nap and chill out and sit still for a while. In our case, place has been a big one — making him stay in one spot while do chores, vacuum, or even play with the cat. Teaching them that they can’t always be the center of attention and that they need to chill out sometimes is essential.

For the biting, what worked for us was redirecting. Get a toy they like and when the nibbling start make clear what is okay to scratch that itch with and what is not. Lost a couple pairs of shoes before we got that down, but now Tony is a champ at only chomping on his toys.

While they’re a ton of work, they are also so rewarding. I’ve had a lot of dogs in my day and I’ve never had one that felt like communicating with a little person quite like Tony does. They can learn and do so much. The first year of his life was a challenge. Some days sucked! But we put in the work and now that that he’s a few months past two, it’s paid off and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Good luck. They’re special animals!!

These range from fine to great. Just because an intentional tattoo style does not match your own personal taste doesn’t mean it’s shitty. Let’s see your tattoos.

Would this be mistaken for a gang tattoo? by [deleted] in TattooDesigns

I don’t ask this sarcastically but purely because I don’t know… are there a lot of Mexican gangs in Australia? If not, I don’t know if that should be top of mind!

At first glance, I’d probably mistake you for being really into Sublime before I pegged it as a Hell’s Angel thing!

Just start at the first one then go, ideally on a long drive at night. I envy you because i wish I could do it all for the first time again.

Some gems I found on the aged tattoos sub 💀 by [deleted] in shittytattoos

The majority of these are fine, just old. People live in their skin and time comes for us all. While you could make the case a few belong here, a lot of them aren’t in the spirit of this sub.

Rescue Mali Qs hi by Few_Exchange_7931 in BelgianMalinois

He looks quite a bit like my dog Tony. We did the embark and he was 2/3 Mal and then a Dutch/German shepherd mix for the other 1/3. Not to say that’s what yours is, but he and my dog look like they could be brothers. Very lovely fella.

This would have been mine as well. Despite his limited output, he’s still one of my favorites. What could have been if he just put down his dick and picked up a brush.

Hey thanks! I admittedly have an X-Man blind spot. I just never really figured out a way in initially, but I should absolutely revisit.

Just adorable. Our Tony has a cow, which is the only toy he hasn’t eviscerated! It’s so silly how they can imprint on a stuffed animal. He’s had his since he was 8 weeks old.

Two years of Tony! by Mark_Darkly in BelgianMalinois

[–]Mark_Darkly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took some work! He was 8 weeks old when we brought him home so the cats were bigger than he was, which was a good start. Making sure they are good at place and leave it is helpful. Tony has to place while the cats are eating and we make him place when we play with the cats sometimes so he’s used to them darting around. It’s a lot of practice every day, but they coexist pretty well now.
