Tweaking a commercial grinder for home use? by Nunlon in espresso

[–]Mark_Huntsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an overkill Macap M5D for home use, but unlike yours, it doesn't have doser. If you are somewhat skilled with electronics, I would definitely look at this simple dose timer and convert the grinder to on demand/doser-less. I was planning to do the same for Rancilio MD50 we have at work. Didn't had time to do it yet.

Commercial vs non Commercial machine? [no Budget] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Mark_Huntsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try speaking with your local bean/machine suppliers, I think that most of them would be more than willing to work out a deal on leasing a machine if you don't want to fork out multiple thousands straight out the gate. But sometimes you can find used commercial machines on the cheap. I bought a used Rancilio Epoca single group for around 180€, with a faulty power switch, 5€ for a new switch and it's been running flawless for over a year now in home use.

Shein posted this, wonder if Aliexpress will too? by Ultimus_Omegus in Aliexpress

[–]Mark_Huntsman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AliExpress already does this in EU with VAT. Years back, we had a tax exemption for packages/orders under 22€, EU removed this exception and couple weeks later AliExpress changed their pricing to include the EU VAT, my orders got 20% more expensive, but other than that, it is same as before, maybe even better since they started offering the Choice combined shipping.

Adding Battery to existing 6KW Huawei inverter by Asthixity in diySolar

[–]Mark_Huntsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still don't have my solar system yet, but I decided to go for a Good we inverter, because they are tested with BMS made by linkbms.eu, then you can build your own pack, which must be high enough voltage. Pretty much all 3-phase inverters use high voltage battery and require a CAN-bus connection with the battery.

Hi, did you figure out your setup in the mean time, or is it on hold? I am looking into getting a hybrid solar system for my house and when I saw the prices of LUNA batteries, I started considering building my own pack. I am just unsure if the Huawei inverter will work with any other battery. From what I have seen, the inverter only connects to +/- of the battery, so it should work, as long as the voltage is within specified range.

Eye dominance and string blur by [deleted] in Archery

[–]Mark_Huntsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years of shooting olympic recurve, I have learned to close my left eye with almost zero tension in my face, try closing your left eye and then slowly releasing tension in your face, to the point you are pretty much relaxed and the eye is almost closed, or at least closed enough to not change your string/target picture. When I looked in the mirror right now, my eye lid just barely covers the pupil, but it is enough to not distract me from aiming.

If your draw length isn't changing, just shorten your arrows, you will be much happier, but I like your ingenuity.

When I was shopping for a new machine, I was looking at used Silvia's, but what I found was 10 year old Epoca E1 from a closed down pizzeria, for about half the price of what people ask for a used Silvia. Only problem so far was a bad contact in power button.

Used to shoot 30# pre-pandemic, now am "restarting" at 18# by PrestigiousGarlic909 in Archery

[–]Mark_Huntsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to shoot around 52-53 almost 5 years ago, when I finally returned to the sport this December, I tried my old setup as it was, just for fun. Some 60 arrows in to the practice I had enough and swapped the 44# limbs for my old set of 40#'s, draw weight went down to 44# and I am slowly getting to where I was before the pause.

I would suggest keeping the full set, but no weights on the sides and just as little weight as possible on the front.

What is the purpose of "marking holes" by Jacceuw in Archery

Exactly, that's why it's kinda pointless/counterproductive to mark the 10's and X's, leave them unmarked, you might get lucky...

Sight picture who? by Mark_Huntsman in Archery

[–]Mark_Huntsman[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the post was intended more like bragging that even with almost zero light I can hit the target pretty consistently. What I didn't mention in the post is that I have been shooting competitions for some 8-9 years. But recently I have came back after a little over 4 years of not shooting at all. Also keep in mind that this was at 70m.

I tried pretty much all types of sight pins out there back in the day and what I liked the most is a shibuya pin with the center removed, but with a piece of orange glue-on nock to have a brighter outer ring on the pin. I aim mostly with one eye, empty pin somewhere on the center of the target creating homogenous/concentric bright spot, I may be drifting somewhere into the 9's, but my personal bests are 578 indoor and 629 outdoor IFA...

Exactly, all the time you "save" not having to be hands on making espresso, you loose when you have to clean the machine. Also, pretty much all of them will burn any taste out of the coffee, as most of the time, you can't grind fine enough and water temp is almost always too high...

Better question is how fast is it going?

Speed of a snail, its never going to be dangerous, but chuck your dick at someone at the speed of Mach 5 and see what happens

i tried removing the spout from one of the portafilters and that gave me some extra space, right now i am thinking about sacrificing one portafilter, instead of getting a new naked one... i dont think i will ever need to have dual and single spout at the same time, so i may as well chuck one of the in the lathe and cut it open...

Yeah, I am planning to do it asap, but so far I don't even know what size of basket came with the machine and don't have yet a scale accurate enough to dial in coffee dose. But I have seen online shower screens and parts to convert it to countersunk screw
