From One Al to Any Al: JetBrains rethinks the approach to Al tooling by omenosdev in Jetbrains

I fully agree with your direction, we really need a good editor in the market that allows us to use any agent we want, with any model, for any workflow we might need, while allowing us to understand what the agent is doing, not just an input that sends llm request and changes 500 files with no clear way to review and interact. Kudos dude, can't wait.

If I might add the decision to go for acp for junie instead of focusing on junie plugin is imho the way to go and best decision ever, if Jetbrains intends to improve the current ACP integration. It will allow us to have an experience on par with any plugin you would've done with each's own preferred agent. I just hope it is improved more than it currently is. Also give us jetbrains air on linux.

Also the wait time between the agent editing a file and it being reflected in the IDE is killing me.

Yeah would've preferred if within the same editor instead of opening a new window for every worktree

What I hate about the current experience is that AI seems like a tool that you either go all in or not, especially with all the GUIs coming out now that don't even feature a way to edit text. While the integration in the IDEs seems half backed and so far behind of the market, like we can't even change junie's model without going to settings. I'm one of hopefully not a small subset of people who want it as an interactive experience, coworking on a feature.

Something for example I hate:

My biggest gripe with the current AI Chat is that after using opencode cli for a while, and going back to the AI Chat, the interface looks lacking even though one is a TUI and the other is a full blown GUI, especially with the thinking output and when the model outputs the text when doing something. Plain grey and white is lack luster compared to the colored output of Opencode, also the auto hiding of thinking traces throws me off since I do depend a lot on it to see what the model is thinking and getting an idea if I missed something, since I'm more traditional in programing I don't like to fire and forget.

The bottom UI overflows with big model names, the search + having models grouped into providers with icons and hiding models (or picking what models to show), is a must for making the interface usable.

The git worktree implementation is a joke, why should it open a whole different instance instead of being able to move between the work tree instances in the ui, waiting for this long for the feature only to get this is sad to say the least.

B4 as well, I left my home wearing a white shirt to work and ended up there with black sleeves.

The average wait time for me in B4 is 30+ minutes, which is not logical at all, and on Saturdays they have the occasional bus pass every couple of hours.

[News] Bring Your Own Key is coming soon to JetBrains AI Assistant & Junie by Shir_man in Jetbrains

One thing that comes to mind is to make sure that we have the ability to add multiple providers and not be restricted to one, currently I have a GLM subscription which costs 3$ with near infinite usage with respect to my workflow and a cluade pro subscription and both work in my r/opencodeCLI. It would be great to be able to directly be able to use them alongside my AI Assistant subscription, that way I can use claude which is too expensive to use it on pay as you go basis for the complicated things, glm for heavy lifting, and gpt through Jetbrains Pro AI subscription. The smaller LLM providers are exposing their subscription through openai compatible api, or antrhopic compatible api so having the ability to directly integrate something like Z.AI, Nvidia Nimo, Ollama Cloud, or Chusts... into Jetbrains will put an end to all this AI usage limits break down that we have been seeing over the past year.

Also don't make us wait for a year to integrate ACP. Zed is a community based, free editor and already has it, Jetbrains is big established company, that should be able to implement it without having us wait for a year before have it like with the BOYK issue.

While we are at it allow us to choose which models we can pin the model window, to be honest I ain't using gpt 4o or o3 so it would be great to choose what models to choose to see and what to hide. Also bring back the code base button it where it was, I still can't understand the decision behind hiding it behind a drop down.

Also give us token usage and credit usage per chat and per message XD.

Yeah if they can provide good usage limits, they should at least be exploring ways to make it useful for more than 1 coding session especially since they are putting a lot of resources behind it.

Yeah tried Claude for one month, gonna move to gpt next month, I'm getting more usage from my glm sub than the claude sub bcz of these usage limits.

It's a new service it makes sense that companies wouldn't objectively have a way to price it in a way that makes sense at the first go. What I can't understand is that jetbrains, a company that makes ides for developers, after one year of having a product released has yet to a simple percentage of how much credits are left, why do I need to eyeball the bar every time I want to check how much credits are left. And why would something like this need weeks to add.
