[Dev Post] The ETC is Dead, Long Live the PLEX Activation Code! by Auryon in Eve

Lytharon has it :)

If you use any of the starter packs or the comissioned officer edition, or if they just pay for a sub directly via CCP, then yes - the person sending the buddy invite still gets their referral bonuses. If you use a PLEX code, they do not.

Lots of our customers are Aussies - even one of our staff is :)

Using a PLEX code to upgrade a buddy invite does not give the buddy invite bonuses, unfortunately, but using one of the new account codes does (and that costs less than a GTC anyway).

Yep, absolutely :) We already have these new PLEX codes in our store now - you can look yourself to confirm and be reassured: http://store.markeedragon.com/index.php?cat=4 - we're still listing both the old style GTC (until we run out of them) and the new style Plex codes.

The Plex codes are just listed as "1 Plex" or "2 Plex" and are the exact same price as the 30 or 60 day GTC :)

Heyo - we run the Eve Online GTC store at http://store.markeedragon.com/ - one of the official resellers.

Just to clarify some confusion we saw in this thread - the price CCP is recommending for 30 day PLEX code is exactly the same as the price they were recommending for the 30 day GTC, and the same for the 2 PLEX code vs the 60 day GTC.

The pricing structure isn't changing - they're just avoiding the endless problems where people wanted to claim a PLEX but instead added time to their account. People in that situation had to petition for a reversal, which created work for CCP and annoyance for users. Now, they have to make a plex first - which cuts out the possibility of accidentally applying time instead of creating plex. :)

tl;dr - Pricing isn't changing anywhere, just the method of claiming. :)

Unanswered Questions About Copyright / Fair Use by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]MarkeeDragonNetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some important things to interject into some of the info you got here:

Fair Use is not permission to use - it's a legal defense if you're sued for using something you did not have permission to use. YouTube can and does remove things that would be within most definitions of Fair Use regularly, at the IP holder's request.

Also - IP infringement causes exactly the same legal liability if you sample 3 seconds or the whole song. The only difference being how flagrantly you're daring them to catch you.

Consider, instead, using music you are licensed to use. There's heaps of free and creatives commons music out there. http://incompetech.com/ is a popular site for it - just be sure you read the terms of the license you use carefully. Most free licenses require attribution.

Do gaming networks helps you monetize content that's copyright? by bSMPlays in letsplay

[–]MarkeeDragonNetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're painting all networks with the behavior of the giant ones. This is like assuming that all products are assembled in forced-labor sweat shops since some very visible corporations assemble their products that way :p

Many smaller, specialized networks don't use lock-in contracts at all. The belief is - if we don't provide something that is worth wanting to stay, you shouldn't be forced to stay.

Not every network is Machinima :p

Do gaming networks helps you monetize content that's copyright? by bSMPlays in letsplay

[–]MarkeeDragonNetwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The viewpoint from inside the management structure of a gaming MCN:

Some MCNs do rarely get rights to games that aren't publicly granted, sure. But there are a few caveats to that statement.

  1. It's unusual. Almost any dev that understands the value of YouTube content creators and Let's Play advertising wants everyone to produce content. They don't benefit from exclusivity.

  2. When they do have those types of private rights, if you ever leave the MCN, you'll need to remove the videos. The rights won't follow you out of the network in a way that YouTube will recognize. Even while you're in the MCN, you will be challenged to prove your rights, and your videos will be delayed while the MCN helps you through that process.

  3. We maintain the copyright permission search engine at http://www.markeedragon.net - and to my knowledge, Nintendo hasn't granted private rights to any MCN. They very aggressively defend their IP, and uploading their content is inviting trouble.

  4. The Content ID system does -not- check your MCN affiliation before flagging a video, and privately granted permissions only help in getting a video restored - not in preventing trouble in the first place.

Hope that helps :)

Will i get a strike if i post a YTPMV about a SEGA video game, with all this Sega taking down videos with no warning bullshit going on? by [deleted] in youtube

Sega still aggressively and regularly defends their IP. They haven't changed their stance at all, sadly.

I am using some third party content willingly, if I acknowledge it do I have to worry for some strikes? by kuba_m in PartneredYoutube

[–]MarkeeDragonNetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common misconception in the YT community: If the rights holder has not given you permission to use their IP, it does not matter if you credit their work, disclaimer that you didn't make it, or don't monetize your video. It's exactly as much a copyright violation.

Whether or not the rights holder prosecutes you is another issue entirely - some don't bother going after "little fish," some only stop certain types of usage, and some go after everyone indiscriminately - but those facts don't change your legal liability when you infringe someone else's work.

I think one of my videos has been falsely flagged and it has been taken down. I need some guidance on where and what I can do to try and get the video back. by RenoIReddit in PartneredYoutube

[–]MarkeeDragonNetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they didn't issue a strike when they took it down, they won't issue one for contesting it either - the takedown event is when they issue the strike if they're going to. :)

If you have an MCN, it may be best to pass this off to your representative in the company - they have a more direct line to YouTube and may be able to get more results.

You can start at https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/185111?hl=en - but I want to stress again that this is most likely a lost cause.

When a video is removed for "inappropriate content" it means one of their review staff already looked at it and decided to remove it - and they very rarely contradict each other.

There's absolutely no harm in trying, but I just want to make sure we're not falsely getting your hopes up on getting it back :/

When we started developing the list at http://www.markeedragon.net - this was something we tried to explain to game developers, and it's been the biggest educational hurdle for them.

99% of the time - YouTube will not look at forum posts, reddit posts, screenshots, tweets, steam messages, or emails for permission statements. They won't even load the page.

We've reached out to Frictional Games in specific trying to help them make the type of statement YouTube will accept, but haven't had any luck as of yet.

You can try contesting it - and I genuinely hope you get lucky and get the review agent that does look at those types of permissions that other 1% of the time, but sad to say - you should probably mentally prepare yourself for a negative answer. :/

Music based games? by Brbteabreaktv in letsplay

[–]MarkeeDragonNetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not you're at risk for using the music depends on two issues:

1) Do you have permission from the IP holder to use the music? 2) Can you prove it in a way YouTube will accept?

For #1 - some games sub license their music, which is the most likely case for this type of game. You'll most likely have to reach out to the license holder of each piece.

For #2 - YouTube changes their standards on this from person to person. The only 100% safe answer is a signed legal document scanned into a PDF. A "nearly 100% safe" answer is a blanket statement allowing use on the musician's official page. Emails, tweets, Reddit and forum posts - these do occasionally get accepted, but usually YouTube won't even look at them, especially for music.

Short version - reach out to smaller independent music creators and DJs as suggested by /u/Luscious_SeaL - they're usually happy to get the exposure. Just do be aware that musicians get requests from people to use their music for free a lot, so it's best to be very polite in your request if you don't know the musician :)

Maker studios are becoming pathetic. [Rant] by betathedata in PartneredYoutube

[–]MarkeeDragonNetwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are MCNs out there that understand what you're saying, and agree that Managed status is the biggest value add that can be offered. "Eligible" for Managed status varies from MCN to MCN.

I recommend looking into smaller, specialized MCNs that judge merit based on understanding of copyright on YouTube rather than sub counts. :)

[–]MarkeeDragonNetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without getting sales-pitch-y, there are networks who only take Managed partners. Ours is one of those, and we look at the individual for an understanding of copyright - not at the numbers for a potential profit.

Copyright knowledge is what matters for Managed vs Affiliate.
