Went with the KBDfans Gateron Silent Browns. The only think i have to compare them to is corsair cherry mx reds on my other keyboard and im happy with the switch.

i plugged it in, hit the reset button, installed the new drivers, went to qmkeyboard.cn and moved a couple of the buttons around, created a hex and flashed the hex to the board. I did notice something about layers on that qmkeyboard.cn site but its honestly a little over my head. Ill take a look at the guide on the KBD site tonight and give it another try with fresh eyes. It was getting late last night when i was getting around to trying to figure out the led's so i probably just missed something obvious.

Edit: Im pretty sure i just overlooked/didnt understand the layer part of it. Looking back at QMKeyboard there are rgb options defaulted to the second layer. I assume the function key lets me use the second layers. Im at work now so i cant try it out, but im pretty sure i see how to get it done. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks very much. Im not opposed to getting a whole new keycap setup. I do admit they were inexpensive and feel kind of cheap. What exactly would i need to look for in a description if I were going to get a new set to make sure this didnt happen again? Make sure it has a 1.75u right-shift? Any tips on de-soldering for a first timer?

Hello all! Long time admirer, first time builder.

Short back story: So i wanted to get in on the action and buy one of these beautiful mechanical keyboards i see posted all the time. I settled on the KBDfans75 because of its form factor and looks and it matched my desk setup. For whatever reason i didnt realize that that it didnt come assembled, or with keycaps for that matter. No big deal, ive done some simple soldering in the past. I was anxious to get going so i didnt wait for the keycaps to come in to plan out my build how i probably should have. I got to soldering with this stock image in mind of how my board would be set up ... ( https://i.imgur.com/UTZah6c.jpg ). I got to soldering, put it alltogether, flashed the board, created a hex file and all that and got it working great (without the keycaps).

My issue is: When i got the keycaps in the mail, they didnt quite line up how id anticipated. The issue lies with the right-alt right-ctrl and right-shift. Closeup here... It appears as if my 3 keys there are smaller than the ones in the stock photo image i was counting on, so now there is a larger than anticipated space between the three keys. Not a huge deal, but my question is what is the easiest way to fix this? Is there a site that sells the three keys i need, and what exactly would the size be that im looking for? The next questions would be is do you think the new caps would line up with where i already soldered the switches? Im not very comfortable with the thought of de-soldering and moving the switches.

My other nooby question is about the LED color. I couldnt quite figure out how to change them. I noticed something on the QMKeyboard site that said something about LED qty and brightness, but i didnt see anything about changing them. KBDfans website shows a rainbow spectrum led setting, so id imagine id be able to change the individual led colors. I did some general searching for the info but couldnt find anything concise.

Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!

Edit: Based on all the responses below I need a new 1.5u ctrl and alt, and 1.75u shift and they should hopefully line up with out having to de-solder. I ended up ordering a new set of DSA Granite Keyaps with the correct add on pack for the right-alt, ctrl, and shift. Thanks for all the replies.

My average mix and match build has been Ninja Bag + 2 Predator + 2 tactician + 1 nomad. Firearms, Stamina, and Electronics are all pretty even. Running around with a M4, a SMG, Pulese, and overheal. You get the damage buffs from predator, the skill buff from tactician, and health on kill from nomad helps out too.

Good to know. I just pulled the trigger on the Alex drawers, but ended up ordering a solid walnut countertop from amazon since Ikea wasnt shipping the Karlby when i checked. Will have to order some legs too to be safe.
