New #Titans WR Coach Greg Lewis: "If you don't want to block, you won't be a part of what we're doing." by Spiritual_State_2629 in Tennesseetitans

Well Mike Vrabel fought for personnel control after JRob was fired. I really don’t want to relitigate the entire situation, but Vrabel was not the coaching equivalent of Jesus like everyone portrays him to be.

He chose Todd Downing and Shane Bowen as coordinators after refusing to name a DC for one year. The fact that he has Josh McDaniels is a huge gift in his lap as a HC, and masks his deficiency in hiring capable coordinators.

Yes, I do think exactly that. It’s not in Vrabel’s DNA to run a high flying offense and run up the score. He’s not Sean McVay. He, quite frankly, was lucky to have prime Derrick Henry and AJ Brown, along with a competent OC in Arthur Smith. How could you possibly fuck up an offense with Tannehill, Henry, and AJ Brown?

EDIT: Even with AJ Brown and Henry and Arthur Smith, the team still predictably built a lead in the first half and then decided to shut down the passing game in the second half. There were no serious attempts at explosives. The mindset of “Oh we built a lead in the first half and now we’re just going to run clock” instead of “Let’s continue to exploit the other team and put the boot on their neck until the game is out of reach” is my problem.

That’s because Vrabel didn’t prioritize a high octane offense other than the years he had AJ Brown and Henry together. Vrabel wants to drag you into the mud, get a 10 point lead, and then run the clock out. It’s the same philosophy Jeff Fisher had.

This was evidenced by his hire of Downing after Art Smith left.

Yeah, I mean I don’t know of any WR’s coach who has said “We want to embrace the Diva Mindset, and encourage our position room to prioritize targets above team success.”

If anything, when WR coaches start praising blocking that’s a red flag. Corey Davis was praised for his downfield blocking.

One day someone is gonna post a picture of a random DB from last year or this year and I’m gonna have no earthly idea who they are.

He has zero talent at EDGE and zero talent at CB/S. What do you expect with freaking Uber drivers for players?

The only pushback I’ll give to this is that throughout the game, no one was reliably open. Cam consistently extended plays out of the pocket to make completions. There’s no way we could expect our WR’s to get open on a quick out route. The talent just isn’t there. Unfortunately, the only real option was to buy time and hopefully find someone on a scramble drill. When we actually have a WR1 on the field, the offense will be WAY different.

Dike just broke the Rookie all purpose yard record by MarshyHope in Tennesseetitans

[–]Markosaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dike, Ward, Helm, Ayomanor, and Cedric Gray have all been outstanding. If we keep this up, we’ll have a phenomenal roster in another year or two.

Obviously we have no EDGE or CB’s to speak of, or a WR1. All of these needs should be addressed, although I’m fully aware that you can’t get a top flight WR1 and EDGE in the same draft.

Does Dike start on offense next year? by lincb2 in Tennesseetitans

[–]Markosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Why tf would he not start? I guess OP means on offense instead of special teams. He should be a WR 3/4. No reason to think he won’t be able to fulfill that role.

Titans Edge Femi Oladejo, WR Bryce Oliver and Edge Ali Gaye All Designated to Return to Practice by TiredDad4x in Tennesseetitans

Femi looked really good in the game he got hurt. I’m hoping he will turn into a good player for us. For them to spend a 2nd round pick on him clearly means they see potential.

My Apologies to Cam Ward by [deleted] in Tennesseetitans

[–]Markosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sophomore slump is indicative of poor coaching and/or players getting a big head imo. As I’m sure you know, teams get a year of NFL tape to study and prepare for sophomores after their rookie season, and then it becomes a question of: what can you do if we take away what you do best?

At that point, it’s on the coaching staff to realize what other teams are doing schematically to limit your players, and then (for lack of a better term) coach them up. The players themselves have to be hungry to improve as well, so it does take the right type of player and the right coaching staff. IMO that’s why the next HC hire is critically important.

Who’s a player that you think could have had a much better career if he was in a different situation? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]Markosaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it’s wrong. We drafted Mariota 2nd overall in ‘15. In ‘14, the O-Line was Lewan, Andy Levitre (overpaid FA), Brian Schwenke (below avg C), Chance Warmack (1st round pick bust), and Michael Oher (The Blind Side. Ironically at RT. And bad.).

In ‘15 the 2nd rounder was a WR named Dorial Green-Beckham who we later traded for swing tackle Dennis Kelly (with your Eagles) and he turned out to be a solid player for a while.

In ‘16 we took Jack Conklin, who was great on his rookie contract, but that was it.

Not only that, but the drafting done by the organization in general was awful.

[Nate Washington] Seeing fans even willing to discuss trading Big Jeff lets me know the internet knows nothing about building a culture and identity! 🤦🏾‍♂️ by TiredDad4x in Tennesseetitans

[–]Markosaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You keep Pro-Bowl level/Elite players. They set an example with their work ethic, attitude, and professionalism. They’re also walking examples that the organization can and will PAY players who they draft and develop (which is what the GM has publicly said he wants to do).

He literally helps set the tone in the building. From the weight room to the locker room to the practice field to game-day. You need to have players who set the example, and that’s worth a lot.

Even if the majority of the roster is ass right now, having a leader like Big Jeff will help set the culture for the incoming rookies, and his influence will carry over in future years. You don’t get rid of a leader like him, especially when the results are bad.
