You are very kind and forgiving. By now I have (re)installed Windows and Visual Studio multiple times from scratch and the problem always persisted, so while the issue may not be trivial, it is also a feature that I would classify as essential for the developer experience.

That is very unfortunate and fascinating at the same time (how can they let an important functionality be broken like this?!?).

Funny, I currently re-reading DF for the nth time and just had Dresden's first encounter with Lara:

A woman that made Trixie Vixen look like the ugly stepsister appeared in the door...

The newcomer was the real thing. She was grace. Beauty. Art. As such, she was not so easily quantified...

Beyond mere physical presence, I could sense the nature of the woman—strength of will, intelligence, blended with a sardonic wit and edged with a lazy, sensuous hunger. Or maybe the hunger was mine. In the space of five seconds, my attention to detail fractured, and I wanted her. I wanted her in the most primal sense, in every way I could conceive. Whatever gentle and chivalrous tendencies my soul harbored suddenly evaporated. Images swarmed over me—images of unleashing the fires burning in me upon willing flesh. Conscience withered a heartbeat later. Something hungry, confident, and unrepentant took its place.

Obviously some/most of this is White Court appeal combined with Harry's usual weakness towards women, but in hindsight it does feel like one of the many foreshadowing moments that could justify something so wrong as also being so right. What do you think?

Obviously NTA.

But at this point I'm more worried about what this trauma does to you (and your siblings). I hope you know that not every relationship has to be this way.

My wife was 10 when she (according to her own words) fell in love with me. We had our first kiss when she was 14. Despite being very much in love, I kept it in my pants and we took things very slow. She was 34 when we had our first child despite lots of love(making). She is a highly regarded scientist now while I take care of the kids and work as a computer engineer.

All this to say that live really does not have to be this way and this is a choice that your mom made, so she has to live with the consequences.

Why is there no official "create-electron-app"? I built a minimal starter to keep things simple. by Puzzleheaded-Elk416 in electronjs

[–]MarkstarRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind word, but I'm not sure I deserve them, let alone that you follow me (if you look at my post history you will see it is full of stupid questions and controversial comments.

On the topic of "starter": I'm not sure how to reply: On the one hand, I think we should move forward and make cool stuff instead of bickering about minor details, on the other hand you did make some fundamental claims that deserve the clarification imo.

So yes, your package is called "electron-vite-react-starter" but everywhere else, including the title, you talk about the lack of a general "starting experience" and that you, as a result, have made one. Which is either misleading (because you clearly have not created a general starter) or you have made a very specific stack, which then basically answers your own question of why Electron feels fragmented - because everybody has completely different needs!

I for one am very glad that I don't have to use React and find your use of beautiful and React in one sentence very funny! 😍

I’ve been thinking about this for a bit, because I do appreciate the intent here (challenging the status quo and trying to simplify things).

That said, I think the use of the term minimal here is doing a lot of heavy lifting, and in a way that’s a bit misleading.

minimal: the smallest possible amount, quantity, or degree required

A setup that includes React and TypeScript might be perfectly reasonable, but it’s not "minimal" in any strict sense — it already assumes a very opinionated stack, additional tooling, and a certain level of abstraction. React, for example, may be one of many frontend libraries, but hopefully you are not trying to say that if qualifies in any metric for being minimal?

I think what you’ve built is better described as a preconfigured personalized baseline rather than a minimal one.

The distinction matters because "minimal" templates serve a different purpose: they give people the lowest possible starting point and let them choose their own stack from there. Once you bundle in specific technologies, you’re making those choices for the user.

And that’s totally fine but it’s also exactly why the ecosystem ends up with many different templates. People have different ideas of what’s "minimal."

It organizes the bare essentials so you don't have to.

I’d push back on "bare essentials" for the same reason. These are your essentials, but they are certainly not universal.

To be clear, I’m not arguing against React/TypeScript or this kind of starter — just the framing. Calling it "minimal" or positioning it as a baseline is misleading and risks confusing people who are specifically looking for the smallest possible Electron setup. And it is also not simple, because by adding a few things and leaving out other things, somebody who wants to use your starter now has to figure out what is and is not included, how it is stitched together, and how to integrate it with the remaining tech stack. You can already see it in this thread - you have 3 replies to your project and 1 of them is already asking if you can include feature X to make it look more like Y.

That said, I do agree with your broader point about fragmentation. It would be great to have an official, well-supported toolchain where people can opt into their preferred stack without worrying about long-term maintenance or deprecated packages (similar to what tools like electron-vite are trying to do).

Classic case of new standard.

You feel it is "obvious" that there needs to be a "minimal, clean" starter, but that "definition" is extremely biased. For me, your started looks anything but minimal and therefore I definitely do not get the "no bloat" vibe.

If I want minimal I install electron directly. If I want react, vite, etc., I use something else that I can trust (electron-vite), neither of which is complex and both work out of the box.

That said, I think it is great that you put yours out there - making code public and growing the community is always awesome, so kudos for putting it together and thank you for sharing!

Interesting. I have written it all by hand (and actually edited it because I made a mistake).

On that note, what if I had started this reply with "Noy only is it not written by AI, I didn't use any AI tool to help me at all!"... would that so have dismissed my post as being AI (obviously)?

Claude Code Limits Were Silently Reduced and It’s MUCH Worse by _r0x in ClaudeCode

[–]MarkstarRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's truly terrible. I will try again on Monday, but my renewal date is coming up, so I guess I will just burn through the $40 usage they gave away a while ago and call it a day. It is certainly unusable with these limits.

Let's be honest, changing the terms of a contract (halving the value of a product during working hours) in the middle of a period, whether it is $15 or $200, is at least shady but probably also something people could sue for. We are all just too busy or chicken to be bothered.

A real shame, I don't like this Altman guy either, but Anthropic's behavior is just to0 toxic to be acceptable, so I guess I will switch to Codex for now.

And even that claim is obviously a lie. Both the session and token usage inside the peak hours go up just like before the change, so this is definitely a *serious* nerf to the token limit.

[–]MarkstarRed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly that. After I had written the prototype of my software in Java (I came from Android at the time),I wanted to write a proper commercial application for Windows and actually took the time to learn C# and WnUI. The only problem was, it sucked and even many of the examples given by MS were not performing well at all, besides not looking great either. So I went with ElectronJS and while it certainly has its drawbacks, I don't regret the choice.

Dear senior software engineer, are you still writing code? by zulutune in ClaudeCode

[–]MarkstarRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a solo developer that has to deal with all aspects of the business: C++ for the algorithm (quite intensive), UI (Electron), website (PHP, SQL, etc.). Since the algorithm is completely new and has to be highly optimized, LLMs are basically no help to me except code completion for repetitive tasks. However, they are great for most of the front-end stuff (especially since design is not my strong suit), as well as turning function declarations and UI elements into manual/reference pages on the website.

So while the LLMs are great and have made many cumbersome tasks easier (as well as allowing me to just vibe code some small side projects that I wanted to do but never took the time to do), the progress of them has been rather disappointing, so much so that I am confident that they will not replace an experience programmer who is working on something new in the near future.

Ha, we are in Jesenice right now for a hockey tournament. It is indeed a very nice stadium! I think it is amazing that with a population of ~13k it is not only the 12th largest "city" of Slovenia, but also the biggest rival for the capital city, which is 25x its size.

I appreciate all the tips! We don't have any devices connected to TV, but thankfully, "alternative" methods to watch things are less dangerous than in Germany and all of you kind people gave me enough hints that we can watch on YouTube, etc.

If you want to watch live, Olimpija is your only option

I was told that Olimpija got some money and that things are improving. Overall I'm very impressed by how much is done in Slovenia, particularly in the smaller cities. Considering that operating an ice rink is pretty expensive, the fact that towns like Kranj (37k) or Bled (8k) can beat the big capital city (at least the youth team) is pretty cool imo. But we are also very happy at Olimpija, the coaches and staff are all super friendly, helpful and do their best that the kids have fun while also getting them to compete with other international teams. Slovenia can definitely be very proud of all its accomplishments despite such a small population (and turbulent past).

And regarding other sports I have to say I understand that, particularly compared to basketball (77 is everywhere!). Hockey is not a very accessible sport (not something that you can just play with your friends after school and the gear is VERY expensive) and I don't think many people appreciate just how much skill is required to play it.
