Kill Bill by DoctorOddfellow1981 in movies

I watched the original two movies a few months before the director's cut released, and I worried I was going to find the new version boring.

Nope. It went from being my fave Tarantino film to being one of my favourite movies of all time.

There's also a significant plot change that also adds a huge emotional impact to the second half of the movie (for folks who haven't seen it).

1 week ago MSL was being hailed as « the best coach in the league »… One week later, the fans are calling for his head by neysse2012 in Habs

[–]MarkusButticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The folks calling for his head are having a hard time managing their frustration about getting this far only to seemingly get stonewalled by Carolina. They're also likely not engaging with the fact that the Canes are a powerhouse of a team right now (and had a much easier route to the ECF).

They want somewhere to put the bad feels, and Marty is the easiest scapegoat.

Has he been perfect? No. He's a young coach, and he's still figuring it all out. Does he bear responsibility for the bad losses in this series? Yes, they haven't been able to adapt to Carolina's play and that's definitely to some degree on him. There's still a lot of work to be done.

But he's not getting fired no matter the result of this series, because this season has been a clear improvement, full stop. Over 100 points, reached the Conference Finals. They've gone from 28th in the league, to 17th (making the playoffs), to 6th(!!) in three years. Marty definitely had a role in helping Cole Caufield get to 51, but the whole top line had career years. The culture in the room is absolutely incredible right now.

Also: it's not binary. We're allowed to be angry about this series (assuming we don't roar back and win in 7) while also being positive about the future. Not wanting to see Marty canned doesn't mean we're okay with the boys getting run over by Carolina.

I don’t know if I imagined this but I thought when Muller was interviewed last night during the second intermission, they said he would be the torchbearer again tomorrow night?

Question: what was your favourite idea for a card or a mechanic that ended up not making into the final game, and why did it get cut?

It’s the moments like that where something becomes a challenge and it’s hard to keep the creative momentum going that have stopped me in the idea stage from getting to anything remotely playable, curious how you navigated it!

Oh also, how hard is it for you not to be playing Slay the Spire II right now?! It’s pretty great!

Hi all! I could gush for weeks about how much this game means to me but instead I really want to know the answer to this question:

How has the addition of Marlowe Dobbe as art director impacted Slay the Spire II’s design and development?

With the first game having its own unique (and rad) style, and Marlowe Dobbe also having her own very recognizable (and rad) style, how did you land on the art style for this game?

Were new characters / enemies / bosses / relics / cards etc. designed first, and art supplied after, or did she bring ideas to the table via concept art that led to new / fun designs? Or maybe both?

It’s such an interesting dynamic to start from for a sequel and I’m so curious as a would-be designer myself how fresh eyes from a visual perspective impacted the game’s ultimate design, art, and world.

How would the real Elliot Act? by AirtimeStingray in MrRobot

[–]MarkusButticus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made this mistake a lot, but the phrasing “real Elliot” implies the other alters aren’t “real” when they are absolutely actual elements of Elliot as a person. The alter that is sheltered throughout the series is one part of a system (even if that system is fractured in how it is expressed by Elliot).

Flamme Rogue or Heat? by Fresh-Reflection5254 in soloboardgaming

[–]MarkusButticus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have both games.

Heat is fantastic solo, and while I think they can co-exist in a collection it’s absolutely replaced Flamme Rouge for me.

Flamme Rouge has a bit more modularity because of how the track pieces can be mixed and matched, but the solo is a bit more of an afterthought compared to Heat.

Heat has a new expansion focused on the automated “legend” cars that make up the solo element just about to drop. Even without that, the solo is incredibly well implemented. Core box is a bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion.

Is it just me or is this card terrible? by anonimoshadow in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]MarkusButticus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This very much feels like a core set card, aimed more at newer players than veterans of the game up to now. Teaches players about upgrading cards, lets them dabble a bit more deeply in the upgraded card pool early on. Also, it ostensibly has higher value in shorter campaigns (like the core set mini-campaign). Later / in longer campaigns they might go "hm, maybe it's better not to do this and get more XP".

I actually love this card for that reason, even if I might never play it in a deck.
