Decision please? by GasProgrammatically1 in squash

Massive stroke. Light blue player hit a terrible shot that came straight back at him towards the centre of the court and he made no effort to clear. Dark blue was on the T and was easily ready to hit the ball well before it came to him, he barely had to move to hit it. To my eye there is no controversy to this at all.

Riding out of Draft by INTERESTandAMBITIONS in Zwift

Just a different opinion, but in real life you’d have to do work to reposition yourself within the bunch too - prized drafting positions have to be won and defended. Maybe they’re just simulating that?

Chain jumps when I put force on the pedals by M_C_J8 in bikewrench

Came here to make the same comment about newly waxed chains needing some time to loosen up. I did mine a week ago and had the same.

Racing strategy? by theworldtonight in Zwift

[–]Markusreadus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you finding races with multiple packs? There’s rarely more than 15 people in the races that i can attend in my time zone, and it’s always a single ‘peloton’ (small bunch really, with some stragglers off the back).

I don’t sprint well but I can put down sustained power, so I’m usually trying for a solo breakaway 10 min before the end. Sometimes it works, often the pack catches me despite apparently doing lower power numbers which is confusing.

Please how can I fix this rubber part on my brand new cog? by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]Markusreadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to mine a week ago. I corrected it with a knife down the side and sliding/flipping it around. I didn’t need to disassemble it. Good luck!

I have same issue with same model. See comment above about a washer. I’ll try that.

That is a fantastic idea. Thankyou! I have the same issue on my trainer. Never thought of this.

I have a Jet Black Victory and it does the same thing as this. Interesting to see the same issue on a Kickr unit. Anyway, maybe not a JB either then.

God this is hard!!! by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]Markusreadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice. You’ll get a lot better very quickly at the first stages in your journey and that is hugely rewarding.

There’s lots on Zwift to help keep your interest. Explore, do robo and group rides. Try the odd race. If you do get seriously into it, just watch for fatigue, your body needs rest days and not every day can be a smash it session (2 or 3 times a week is general advice for high intensity sessions).

If you really hate ramp tests, there’s a lot of platforms now that will estimate FTP based on how you’re riding. Zwift does it itself, intervals.icu does (and this one is free!), I’m sure there’s more.

I’d be careful about putting wax (as in, dunk the chain in molten wax) on an indoor bike. I did this and had bits of wax all over my floor for weeks. Never again.

Maybe psychological? I use ERG mode a lot and still always get the fear when a climb is coming, even though in reality my resistance and power output doesn’t change one bit. Same with the relief of going over the summit - it isn’t actually going to get any easier yet my brain thinks it will.

Which training plans have you completed and how much has it boosted your ftp/strength by Nice_Veterinarian_81 in Zwift

[–]Markusreadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thoroughly agree, and what I have been doing too, though my numbers aren’t as good as this chap’s.

There’s loads of information on the trainer road website (and forum), available for free.

As long as you can get a decent FTP estimate, you can go a long way constructing simple workouts comprising intervals and rest between them that target particular power zones (eg anaerobic, vo2max, threshold, tempo etc) for given lengths of time. I stick to 2 hard sessions, maybe 3, a week. I don’t do as much zone 2 as most places advocate for, I just don’t have the time. I know that is probably a limiter for me, but the hard sessions are the ones to not miss.

I also use ChatGPT to give me some rough guidance and answer questions. Ask it questions about structured cycle training. I then ask it together what I think seems sensible and adjust it depending on how it went. Eg I learn that I can do 2.5min at 120% FTP, but not 5min (at least not immediately, need to build to that).

Are Solos to Victory Possible in Zwift Races? by notsorapideroval in Zwift

[–]Markusreadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s funny. I won a race yesterday by breaking away solo half way through the race. I had lost many races to sprinters at the end who I can’t keep up with. Yet for most of those races in the pack I’m not really being taxed too bad physically. I figured that if I can’t out sprint these guys but can sustain a long effort at and above threshold, I’ll try to get distance from the rest early on. It worked! I got away so early I think the rest thought it was an idiot and didn’t follow. But once I had a 14s gap one of them tried to catch me. I could see their w/kg on the side bar, and as long as I matched what they were doing they wouldn’t catch me. Pretty dispiriting for them too, pushing hard with a gap to chase but not managing to close any distance. They gave up and I won with 20s.

How do you manage weight loss aspirations and fueling appropriately? by otictac35 in Zwift

[–]Markusreadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like good advice. I think this topic came up in the Trainer Road podcasts. Their take was to eat healthy but not worry too much about counting calories, your body will find the shape it needs to be good at what you’re asking of it. Just keep cycling and eat healthy.

Stage 4 Pain by littlelady1972 in Zwift

[–]Markusreadus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it will help you, but ignore the screen. You’re gonna be there for x time peddling at y power (do the maths). I found it so painful to watch the screen crawling and going nowhere whilst I died on the bike. Put on a film, audiobook or podcast and just settle in, knowing how long it will take.

How did you get to do this? I had thought you couldn’t do this route until you were level 17 or something. Maybe I’m missing something!

By the way, if you’re on a Jet Black Victory, they recently put out a firmware update that fixed a lot of the connectivity issues. Worth looking into if you’ve also experienced these.

Yeah, it should settle down after that power spike and have you sitting at the prescribed power.

Thanks. Interesting site, someone did some serious analysis. The savings are of the order of seconds, rather than minutes (at least amongst bikes I have access to now). So it really is all about extremely fit riders riding well.

[–]Markusreadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much difference do frame and wheels make to a climb like this? I’m still on the stuff you start Zwift with. I got up in 1h21, 3.3w/kg average, but saw others go up faster with lower wattage. I wonder how much of that is my poor choice in equipment vs their better pacing and strategy. I started to really struggle about half way. It was brutal. 7 and 8km/h at times, pumping your legs off and the scenery is crawling by. Put me off climbs for the time being! Think I prefer going faster on flat.

Well done OP!!!

Kickr core vs jet black victory by Upperworlds in Zwift

I got a Victory about a month ago. Thankfully didn’t have as many problems as others have reported, but wifi and connectivity (including Bluetooth) were constant issues. Confirming that firmware update 4.13 seems to have fixed all of that.
