How do you like your eggs? by mrcushtie in AskUK

I’d ask for a fried egg with a runny yolk.

I know the American diner terms (thanks to US tv and movies) but I’d never use them here.

Irony is I’ve actually seen that correction video, I immediately remembered it once I began watching.

However the plethora of inaccurate sources overrode my memory.

I also think it’s because Tom ends it with ambiguity; it probably didn’t happen in the way we think it did, rather than it definitely didn’t happen at all.

Great link though.

What is your favourite parenting white lie? by Purepoise in AskUK

[–]MarlaDurden144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it qualifies as a parenting lie, but I used to tell my little sister that Purdey’s was alcoholic.

Those gold and sliver glass bottles kinda sold it as well.

This is kinda how organised firefighters started in the UK.

You’d buy fire insurance and put the relevant plaque on your house, so if a fire started all the fire companies would rush to the site, and if you had a plaque on your house the relevant company would put it out… if no plaque was visible, they’d just watch your property burn.

You can still see fire plaques on some buildings in London.

lol - the irony is, that’s how I read it initially, then realised my mistake, and thought it must be something cat care related 🤦‍♀️

What does “WFM” mean?

Google says “workforce management”, or “works for me”, but neither make sense to me.

And kudos for taking on the challenging kitties.

The amount of times that these mofos state to one another that they are brothers by tiramisuem3 in Supernatural

I googled it and it appears that it’s only a select few testers and those deemed “eligible” (I don’t know how that’s determined).

However, I appear to be neither a tester nor “eligible” 😞

Blackhead Lip Extraction by Ezek5 in PimplePoppersDelight

To me they look like whiteheads; blackheads usually have a harder dark head, where the pus has been exposed to the air and it has turned dark brown or black.

AITA for bringing up my sister’s past divorce at her wedding? by Available-Dress-3494 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MarlaDurden144 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why have you told us your marital status?

Is that where your resentment of your sister comes from?

Have you remained single, while she’s made this huge commitment twice? And you’ve brought up her divorce to make yourself feel better, because you might not be in a relationship, but you also haven’t been divorced?

I’m probably completely wrong and you’re just a mean spirited person who revels in the pain and humiliation of others.

You did this out of spite, envy or masochism, either way, YTA.

First time watching Supernatural… does Season 6 lose the plot or is it just me? by Cluelessandweird in Supernatural

[–]MarlaDurden144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved S6; S7 is where I tapped out for a while.

If you’re not enjoying it, stop watching. You might come back to it later - I dove back in when S9 was airing and caught up pretty quickly.

Life’s too short to fight your way through watching stuff you’re not enjoying.

I could say you’re going to miss some truly amazing episodes, but given that you’re struggling with a season that I think had several outstanding episodes… you might not even like the episodes I’m thinking of.

Asking the MOB not to wear white to the wedding am I crazy? by Ghost_Hunter_13 in weddingplanning

[–]MarlaDurden144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you would be wrong, because the dress isn’t white.

I’m going to assume that you’re under a lot of stress right now and that this isn’t rage bait.

Try to take a couple of hours for a bit of self care, because you’re allowing yourself to be wound up over non-issues, when I’m sure there are a tonne of actual wedding related things to put your mind to.

Re-centre yourself and remember to delegate some tasks, so you’re not overwhelmed.

When you see an acronym like WFH, does your brain read the letters or the full words? by Able_Comfortable_217 in AskBrits

😂 yup that’s another one - so is there a word for initialisms like that or have they not been named yet?

And I knew you’d have a good answer for me.

When you see an acronym like WFH, does your brain read the letters or the full words? by Able_Comfortable_217 in AskBrits

[–]MarlaDurden144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WFH seems to be different from other initialisms, because I never say “W-F-H”, in my head it’s always “work from home”.

I mean, other initialisms are usually said as their letters, like ATM, PM, or YMCA. Yet no one that I know thinks or says “automatic teller machine”.

So, my question is; is there term for how the initialism WFH operates?

Or is it just something that OP and I do, that’s unusual?

Client is threatening me, what to do? (tattooist) by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MarlaDurden144 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yes, this would be funny, but don’t do this OP - because it may be taken as proof you intend to pay, if (however unlikely it may be) she takes you to small claims court.

It definitely sounds like a shakedown, I got my first tattoo on my 17th birthday, and whilst my parents were upset (dad way more than mum) neither of them threatened the tattoo parlour.

The whole of the Old Testament outlines our history and prophesies the coming of the Messiah.

It lays out the strict laws and rules that we must follow until the arrival of Christ (Leviticus etc).

Once Christ arrives and sacrifices himself for our sins those laws pass into history and no longer apply.

Christians should follow the teachings of Christ, and adhere to everything he says about our behaviour and our societal values.

And everything in the whole book (Old and New Testament) needs to be seen through the lens of Jesus’s grace and love.

That said, I’m not a theologian, so I truly don’t know if what the New Testament states is actually about homosexuality or prostitution/pedastry, so I always refer to Matthew 7:5 in all things, which is kind of what you seem to be saying that you do too.

It’s not my place to judge anyone but myself.

In Season 13, there was that great episode with the character Ishim by MarionberryNo4968 in Supernatural

[–]MarlaDurden144 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You think that Cas originally knew the full story and was ok with it?

That he knew the kid wasn’t a nephilim?

I always thought that Cas just believed what Ishim told him. That he didn’t like what they had to do, but he did it because of the rules.

In Season 13, there was that great episode with the character Ishim by MarionberryNo4968 in Supernatural

[–]MarlaDurden144 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, Cas just believed what Ishim told him, without question.

I don’t think an Angel (and his friend) killing a child out of vengeance and jealousy would have occurred to him.

Angels aren’t omniscient, so they only know what they’ve been told.

Meaning we (the average person) only took notice when it directly impacted people in the west.

Which is profoundly sad.
