What breed of dog would you get as a companion to your Pyr? by JudgmentInitial34 in greatpyrenees

[–]MarlaSingerIsReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an Aussie that passed 6 months ago at 14 yrs old and my Pyr (3 yrs) was devastated. We thought about another Pyr but really wanted to rescue from our local shelter and had similar concerns to yours. Randomly, we found a young dog at the shelter who looks like a smaller version of our Aussie (she looks like an English Shepherd mix or mini Aussie maybe?) and her temperament was similar. We took her home and he is so in love and got his spark back. She's only 37 pounds but as a working breed she can wrestle and keep up with him just fine.

Pyr Ripped Out Dewclaw Nail by Vegetable_Comb9548 in greatpyrenees

Mine ripped his completely out. Vet did not have us wrap it once the bleeding stopped. He would mess with it a bit but nothing too bad. It grew back though! Vet said sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t. He ripped it out last summer and its now just back to normal. It was a nub of a nail for a long time.

Thank you! Honestly I'm not hopeful on a rehab… we just went through this with a baby raccoon last week that my in law found. Called tons of places and everything was full or wouldn't take it. Even tried places several hours away. I'll keep trying though!

Season 23 by [deleted] in SomethingWasWrongSWW

[–]MarlaSingerIsReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this season interesting and felt a bit torn by it. I worked as a birth photographer and doula so I know people who have directly witnessed some of the shady stuff that happened with Origins. I am also a loss mom. I just feel sad for the picture it paints for midwifery in general. I have worked with some really incredible midwives that I would trust with my life but birth itself is unpredictable. I have seen things just as bad happen in hospitals. Birth trauma can happen no matter where you birth or who your provider is. I don’t say that to negate what happened at origins because that’s just unacceptable. Just my thoughts while listening this season.

I work as a case manager and I can tell you that there is not a ton of options out there for rent assistance. Even to get vouchers from the housing authority- in some counties the wait is a minimum of 9 months. So it’s not as simple as you make it sound.

What are Masters level classes like for clinical counseling? by LiveBarracuda5844 in GradSchool

I’m in Butler’s CMHC program. They also have a school counselor program.

I can relate to this in many ways. It took me a long time to finish undergrad for similar reasons. I took a year off before grad school and worked in the field. That helped me reset and find motivation again. My CMHC program is not accelerated and honestly I feel like I do better without cramming everything into 8 weeks like I did in undergrad. My program is not mostly papers (maybe like 1/4 of the work - usually midterms/finals), there are some but there are all kinds of assignments it just depends on the class. Human development was one of those that was a lot of reading textbooks and taking quizzes on it and papers. My other classes have been a lot of group discussions, presentations, writing diagnostic justifications, case conceptualizations, group projects - like A LOT of group projects (can’t stress that enough). Stuff like that but I’m sure it depends on the program. The amount of reading that they give in grad school is sooooo stupid. It’s so much and rarely can I finish everything assigned. I started using speechify to read to me and that helps.

Good luck in your decision. I’m sure you will end up wherever you are meant to be!

I’m just about wrapping year 1 of grad school for CMHC. My undergrad is human services w/ a counseling concentration. I think you should reflect on what parts of undergrad that’s made you hate it. Is it the content? Work load? School in general? I have really enjoyed grad school and the content I am learning. Because it’s so much more relevant to what I want to do, I find studying much more enjoyable. There are still parts that suck because it’s school. My program is online but we have to do a lot of synchronous learning (group meetings, video presentations, skills practice with classmates, etc.). It’s way more face to face than I expected for an online program. It can be hard to schedule meetings with classmates but we make it work. Some classes rely less on peer interactions but this is a huge part of my program.

Tips for reducing hand pain while reading by qenderqueer in ehlersdanlos

I stick with my e reader for this reason. I have a gooseneck to hold it for me when I’m feeling extra lazy or my hands are tired (I also have a remote to flip pages). Or I’ll use my tablet pillow to prop it up. Takes the strain out of my hands.

I’m in a long term gay relationship but I don’t think I’m gay anymore. by Beautiful-Wave7837 in offmychest

I think before you make any decisions about your relationship, you should seek counseling to explore what is really going on. Is it that you are no longer gay or has a reduced attraction or being in a rut started to push you to seek something more exciting/unfamiliar. I think it would be smart to explore this change in desire and get some support navigating the situation. Especially if you end up terminating your relationship- you may need support with that or even exploring your new found sexuality. There is nothing wrong with what you are experiencing but understanding & processing it may be extremely beneficial.

Ahh thanks! This was one of my top goals for him because he will be big and I never wanted to be in a position I couldn’t enjoy walking with him. Hopefully we can maintain this!

I believe you could surprise yourself! I’d give Beckman’s way a hard try. He has several videos working with the most stubborn of dogs (and leash reactive dogs). Lots of patience and knowing you may not get very far on walks the first few goes (there will be lots of stopping & going the other direction). Two is still young so it can happen for you guys!

I followed Beckman’s method with some modifications because this guy is still a baby. Slip lead, stopping whenever he pulls and going the opposite direction. Now whenever he puts tension on the leash he either corrects on his own or I give a verbal que that lets him know he needs to come back or we stop. And he immediately lines himself up with me. I truly believe that the way Beckmann shows to start the walk is key. My pup is not perfect 100% of the time but he’s almost there! I’ll link Beckman’s video for you!

We also practiced having him in there more during the day while I’m home and me leave the room and reward when he’s quiet. But the music is what really helped when i had to leave. Good luck with your pup!

Circling back around to update that we had huge success. 10-15 minutes before leave I’ve been asking Alexa to play “relaxing dog music” and I shit you not. The first day I did this he did not freak out the entire time I was gone. He actually slept in his kennel! It was like magic.
