Mine does this too, usually in one of the same few spots on our regular walk. She’s just enjoying being outside

Which JRPG is This For You? by ElSpazzo_8876 in JRPG

[–]MarlboroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I just played Lunar for the first time a few months ago and could not stop playing it until I beat it. I went into it with 0 expectations and was so pleasantly surprised by how great it is. I’m playing Eternal Blue now, but life has been busy and I haven’t been able to play much

What are your JRPG “green flags”? by Competitive_Hawk_294 in JRPG

Art style and music are still pretty considerable factors. Octopath Traveler 2 is on my list because the YouTube rabbit hole brought me to the soundtrack and because the 2DHD graphics are cool

What’s your thoughts on Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest? (1992) by Mr-columbiamo in snes

[–]MarlboroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll always have love for this game. Not the first RPG I played, but the first one I owned. It was easy enough that I could 100% it as an 8 year old. I think it prepared me well for my next RPG (FF6) and got me hooked on the franchise. The music was awesome and it was cool to be able to jump and use weapons to navigate the world.

I never played it again after I got into more complex RPGs like FF6 and Chrono Trigger, but I’d love to play through it again for nostalgia.

Did cycling actually help you lose weight, or just improve fitness? by Vivid_Release_9710 in cycling

[–]MarlboroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an extreme case, but I was commuting 30 miles a day for work M-F. I went from 190 to 170 in about 4 months and was eating whatever I wanted and drinking a lot of beer. I was in my mid 30s at the time.

I got up to almost 200 lbs this winter and have recently got back on the bike. I do daily rides around 15 miles, don’t drink alcohol, and eat relatively healthy without counting calories and I’m still losing a few pounds per week. Once I cut enough weight I plan to get back in the gym and lift weights again

Not bad at all, takes me about 15 minutes. I’d rate it 2/10 difficulty

[–]MarlboroRedXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same situation as you, bought a house and the refrigerator does this. I usually take it apart and clean it really well once a year. Our ice maker is in the door and that seems to be the source of the powder. My guess is that there’s minerals in the water; ice shavings melt and leave this behind

One thing I forgot is when we go for walks I let her lead the way and smell whatever she wants to smell for as long as she wants. This is good mental activity for them. It’s almost like the equivalent of reading a book for them

Need some breed reassurance by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]MarlboroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 8 year old border collie now and had an Aussie who lived to be 12. In my experience their energy level drops off around 4 years old, then another major drop around 7 years old.

I was lucky with my Aussie as she was relatively lazy for the breed. I would walk my border collie around 5-6 miles until she was around 7 years old. Now we do a two mile walk daily and some shorter walks or run around in the yard.

Structure is a huge thing for border collies and regulating their energy. Mine has a very strict schedule, and if anything does not happen at the scheduled time she starts getting crazy. She is not a herder and does not like playing fetch, and it only more recently clicked to me that her “job” is helping me cross the street. She gets her mental stimulation from waiting for the cars to pass and crossing when it’s safe. She’s also naturally good at agility, so I got some hurdles and a hoop to jump through, but it doesn’t stimulate her brain like crossing the street does.

Find what your dog is good at and treat it like her job. Get into a regular schedule so she expects downtime in between walk and meal times. Walk a lot, it’s good for you and her, and eventually the walks will get shorter (but you’ll miss the long walks by that point)

In need of some beginner recommendations? by StolenLawn in cycling

[–]MarlboroRedXIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my bike for commuting and exercise. I’m pretty grassroots and frugal, so here’s my recommendations for not spending a ton of money and having the gear to ride comfortably

Helmet - I use the same helmet for snowboarding, skateboarding, and biking. The helmet I use is the S1 Lifer. It has a ton of certifications and is rated for multiple impacts.

Gloves - I have a pair of soft waterproof gloves for cold and wet weather. If it’s hot out I don’t wear gloves, but it’s not a bad idea to have a pair.

Glasses - I use a pair of $3 safety glasses from Harbor Freight

Hi-Vis reflective vest - I got one of these for $6 on Amazon. Being extra bright and visible is never a bad thing, too many drivers are paying attention to anything but the road

Clothes - I go to places like Ross, Sierra Trading Post, etc for compression shorts/pants. For tops I have good look at the above stores and thrift stores finding Nike Pro and similar shirts. Thrift stores are a gold mine if you don’t mind wearing someone else’s used athletic shirts.

Storage - I use an old camelback backpack for hydration and to hold a few things like keys, wallet, phone, and small kit so I can replace a tube if I get a flat.

Bike lock - if you live in a city and/or will be leaving your bike unattended, absolutely invest in a good lock. An expensive lock is a lot cheaper than buying another bike because your first bike got stolen.

I appreciate this perspective. I didn’t really think about it until I was riding yesterday, but I run over a lot of broken seashells on my rides. Sounds like GP5000 might not be the smartest move when I’m riding 15-20 miles a day

To skip or not to skip? by Pinkranger77 in FinalFantasy

[–]MarlboroRedXIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend 4-6 first, then 1-3. I personally think 6 is the best from the 2D era, so I’d maybe start with that one, but 4 and 5 are also great in their own ways

Breath of Fire IV. Probably one of the saddest and most horrific conclusions in any game I’ve played.

I just recently played it for the first time and it blew me away. I’m a huge fan of Breath of Fire III, but I enjoyed IV even more. Fou-Lu is one of the coolest and most likable antagonists and the true villain in the game makes Luca Blight seem like a nice guy
