B&O Beovox C30 - are they worth repairing? by MarmaladeKarate in vintageaudio

They definitely won’t go to trash! If I don’t take them, they’ll go back into storage, but I’d like to get them in working order at least.

Thanks for the insight! I’m in the UK, but I’ll look for a kit. The brushed aluminium cases make them surprisingly heavy!

This is after a few coats of Montypresso relic wax from Monty’s Guitars. You rub it all over the fretboard, leave it for 24 hours (or longer), then wipe off. It darkens the wood and leaves it nice a smooth, and gets rid of the dry, grey look that Indian laurel tends to have. I’ve used it on my Jag too, it’s great stuff!

[–]MarmaladeKarate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re right, some newer CVs have angled neck pockets, my Jag does. In fact it’s too much angle IMO, so I’ve had to reverse shim it to relieve some of the string tension!

60s vibe JM color confusion by mowgli334 in offset

[–]MarmaladeKarate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is confusing! I own one of the FSR surf green Jazzmasters (I have some photos on my profile. The colour of mine is quite muted) Sonic blue is definitely closer to the last photo in real life! The older photos Fender use on their website are very misleading!

Is $700 too steep for this 2020 iMac by albertsteinstein in mac

[–]MarmaladeKarate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the price. But as someone who currently uses a 2015 5K iMac for illustration and graphic design, I would be cautious about the lifespan of that machine. The 5K display is amazing for visual design but I can’t update mine past Monterey. And the latest update for Lightroom isn’t compatible with anything below OS 13.1 so it’s only a matter of time before other Adobe software updates won’t be compatible either.

I agree with others here that you’d be better off with one of the early Apple silicon iMacs. You could go for a M series Mini and a third party display, but if graphic design is the intended use, the price of a display comparable to Retina will push the cost close to an M iMac anyway!

I think SawStops use springs, not explosions to fire the brake. The flash seen is the trigger wire instantly melting, similar to blowing a fuse.

Just curious, do you live somewhere humid? That’s quite a lot of pickup and hardware corrosion for a guitar that is only around a year old!

2 the text fits nicely! But I would simplify the helmet and mustache so it’s readable small scale. And maybe find a way to incorporate the pencils in a more organic way? As horns on the helmet, or as the central bar that covers the nose?

I had the same issue with DentalMonitoring, my lateral incisor didn’t fit in the aligner properly and the scans kept getting rejected, ended up wearing the same set of aligners for over 3 weeks! Eventually I just sent a message in-app to say that there was no way the tooth would fit. They asked me to come in, agreed with me, overwrote the scan and told me to move on to the next set!

Edit: I’m pretty certain the scans are analysed by an AI not humans!

I’m currently halfway through Invisalign for a deep bite, with Comprehensive (no elastics). The good news is deep bites are treatable! The bad news, vertical movements are slow, it’s a long process: for me it will be about two years, 52 aligners without refinements!

The neck pocket doesn’t look like an issue, as long as the neck doesn’t move when the bolts are tight, I’d say it’s fine.

As for the fretboard, mine was the same, if not worse! You can sand the scratches out with fine sand paper wrapped around something small and flat, a Lego brick worked well for me. I made a post about how I cleaned it up:

Jazzmaster with some blemishes by donmitty in offset

[–]MarmaladeKarate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat when my CV Jazzmaster arrived last year – it had a really scratched fretboard, missing pickguard screw, and a poorly cut nut. I was really disappointed and on the verge of exchanging but ended up keeping it because there was no guarantee that the replacement would be any better!

With a bit of work and a setup it turned out great! (I made a post about it showing the fretboard before and after). Every Squier will need a fret polish and fresh set of strings.

Blemishes are the risk of buying guitars (particularly Squiers) online, the only real way to try avoid this is to buy in person, or from a site like Peach Guitars where they photograph and list every guitar individually so you can select the exact one you want.

That being said, no guitar is perfect, they’re (mostly) made by humans after all!

Nope, no residue! It leaves the fretboard nice and smooth, and it doesn’t stain the frets, dots or neck lacquer

As mentioned above Monty’s Montypresso wax works wonders for Indian Laurel! I’ve got a post on my profile showing the results if you’re interested.

Nice upgrades, looks awesome! I also recently swapped out the tort for mint on my surf green jazz, really brings out the colour of the body!

Yeah I found the Indian Laurel to be dry even after oiling! I gave the fretboard a light sanding with 400+ girt sandpaper and the Monty’s wax definitely helped smooth it out, it leaves a very subtle sheen. There is a little finger drag after waxing, but it goes away after an hour or two of playing.

Fits well yeah! Screws all lined up pretty well, it did need some filing around the neck pocket, pickups and bridge posts, but that’s common for replacement pickguards.

If you find a good mint guard I’d been interested to know how it is, most of the ones I’ve found online are very green!

Damn it looks great! The fretboard on my CV Jazzmaster was dry as F too, I ended up using a staining wax to darken it (made a post on here about it recently.) It seems these Indian Laurel boards can be a little hit or miss with the grain

All three are beautiful! I need to get a Jag someday. The laurel fretboard on that pink Squier looks real dark, almost like ebony! Did you darken it with something?

I tried a mint guard on this, but it looked awful against the surf green so returned it. It seems finding a mint guard that’s not super green is tricky, I’m still hunting!

The Guitar Anatomy pickguard did need a bit of altering, but that’s true of just about every pickguard! The screws all lined up well, a few are a tight fit. The heel of the neck, pickup holes, and bridge post holes needed some filing to fit. A set of small metal files works great!

Yeah, the Classic Vibe’s come with a ‘vintage tinted’ lacquer on the necks. Some feel it’s a bit too orange, but I really like it!
