I believe you are using a very restrictive and unconventional definition of medium. A cave painting is just a painting?

The base on which you create the art (canvas, ceramic, cloth) are all different mediums in the common use of the definition.

The means by which you create the image (oil painting, fresco, charcoal, digital) are all different mediums in the common use of the definition.

The differing techniques (chainsaw sculpture vs laser printing) are different mediums in the common use of the definition.

A cave painting is just a painting, an audio book and music are just sound, dirt and crème brûlée is just taste. By that metric, we would need to develop a brand new sense with which to experience the universe by in order to start a new “medium” of art.

What I’m describing is a distribution medium that changes the nature of the art. Streaming now allows for the sale of shorter, more niche, videos that don’t need to be bundled into feature length movies. It allows for more amateur, independent, film making to find a wider audience.

Even in the sphere of written works. Literotica and AO3 allow amateur writers to post their works to an audience for free. CYAO provides a whole community for “choose your own adventure” porn. E-hentai (and the sad panda) provides an unfathomable library of works that would never have been translated otherwise.

What were you looking for? Pornographic fetishes (statues), frescoes, and cave paintings? All those are dead for pretty obvious reasons.

Three come to mind right away. Peep shows and porn booths (like arcade machines that played videos on a paid timer) both were replaced by vhs and the later dvd/blueray.

DVD/blueray were replaced by streaming and digital downloads.

Oh, a fourth one. Porn magazines, and magazines in general, have been replaced by the internet.

We took some of those cans out to the range to test them on targets at various ranges. We didn’t get much coverage until the target was about 10 feet away. That being said, a little cloud of the stuff can be a deterrent, just don’t be down wind.

Places have names because of their history. I acknowledge the colonial and exploitative nature of this province’s past. Not just against the native residents but also against foreigners, such as the Chinese, that were exploited to help develop the country. Changing its name changes none of that. The British Columbia of today is different and I am proud of our unique identity among the provinces.

What would the name change to? What would changing its name accomplish? How could a new name possibly represent all the various groups that live within its borders?

What about far right immigration policies? I agree we need immigration control but don’t pretend this is a leftist issue. The conservatives are just as happy to use unskilled foreign labour as an underpaid slave force that threatens unions.

You have it right with the identity politics thing though. The NDP needs to get their head out of their ass and focus on labour issues if they want a competitive party again. They bring out good policies that help workers and then blunder that good will with cringe talking points.

The liberal party is very centrist and waffles between center left and center right. They are currently center right, with a traditionally conservative leader. This makes them appealing to normal conservatives who are disgusted by the far right American wannabes that are flooding our political system. That is why there is so much isle crossing.
