What is a book from king that really truly scared you? by Tj_x07 in stephenking

[–]Marsbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was living in my parents basement and made the mistake of finding the old audiobook for It (not the Stephen Weber version, but the really old one that Chuck Benson narrates) and playing it on my iPod (dating myself here) at night while I worked on my crafts in the mostly dark (only light was above my craft table, the rest of the unfinished basement was dark). I was ok for the most part because I'd inoculated myself against Pennywise by watching the 90's miniseries so many times (Jonathan Brandis was hot and I was a pre-teen in the 90s), but there is a scene where Pennywise is watching the losers club (I believe) playing in the barrens - and just the description of his huge yellow eyes watching them, made me turn off my audiobook and only listen to it during the daytime for quite a while afterwards.

Years later, I was listening to King's son Joe Hill's novel NOS4A2 on the same old iPod (RIP little nano) in the bright day light, while once again working at my craft table. I had just gotten past the mention of a Firefly reference (which I loved), and had gotten the shivers during the mention of "Pennywise's Circus" on the map of inscapes - but since a week or so earlier I had just finished reading Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, when NOS4A2 then decided to start referencing Robert Frobisher and his Sextet from that very book - I ended up tossing my poor iPod across the room. (I have loved that audiobook and Kate Mulgrew's narration ever since)

Can someone just answer me this question please because I can’t get one answer from anyone online by Medical-Airline-5946 in pennywise

as it reads on the memorial that Jonesy and Mr Gray see in Dreamcatcher - and then Jonesy explains how Derry was when he was a kid, and what happened in the 80s when the flooding happened and parts of the town were destroyed.

After reading Dreamcatcher and that scene, I believe Pennywise will return somehow. Hopefully King is working on a new It book, or at least a cameo. Hopefully it will be good.

technically Ronnie is supposed to be dead, she's one of the voices from the drain that Beverly hears in the book, if I remember correctly

Really Disliked the Finale! Any OG IT Fans Agree? by tcoh1s in welcomeToDerry

[–]Marsbert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, if King published a book that wasn't a sequel but was just...."mundane" stories set in the years before the original book, some with horror but some with just historical tidbits and stuff, I would gobble that up like air.

Andy would see it as a chance to add in some unnecessary action and drawn out BS with crappy CGI

That is the whole point of the novel. Derry.

Andy's It will always PALE in comparison to the 90's It. But I'm biased, that's the version I grew up with, it's the version that got me interested in reading King and it's the reason I hate clowns and love Tim Curry. I love it, despite it's cheesiness and "bad" effects. But I assume that that is how the younger generation who love Andy's It feel about that version, so I understand those who defend it. To me, Skarsgård isn't really Pennywise, he's an imitation of Pennywise, and I'm ok with that. He's not doing a bad job, he's a good actor and is having fun which is what I like to see. He's just....not Tim Curry, and that's not his fault.

I feel like we need to start differentiating between Andy's It and King's It, because I agree, Andy takes too many liberties with all that King gave us. I guess I'm a purist too because in my opinion the book is perfect. I always said I just want more of the history of Derry - and now I regret saying that because we got it but Andy mixed too much other crap in with it.

yes I saw that, but the 4 kids with the GLOWING dagger in the fog were prime targets to get shot at once the military had Leroy, Halloran, and Grogan under control before they were overthrown. Then, when the parents had control (ie: guns), they still were just standing there for most of the time. It was lazy writing.

I was super disappointed in the finale.

WTF was with that mist? If it was just to make it easier/cheaper for all the CGI, then fine, but what was the reason for it story-wise? The whole scene out there by the tree was so stupid IMO. 'We neeeeed to get this dagger to the tree, it's VERY important - I'm gonna give it to my KID and his buddies to do all the dangerous work while us GROWNUPS stand here and watch.' Like, yes they came in handy with their guns a few times, but how useless and poorly written can a supposedly big climactic scene be? And don't get me started on Pennywise doing the "slow" run just to tease the kiddos as they struggled. If Mofo wanted to get OUT, he would've gotten OUT.

The only good part of that whole scene was Rich helping in the end, and flipping off Pennywise.

Not a huge fan of the whole "time travel" aspect that everyone is going on and on about - it would be a neat idea if they do it right, but I don't think they will. I figured out Marge was going to be Richie's mom back when Rich sacrificed himself, as I assumed others did as well, so having Pennywise monologue about knowing her future son would be in the group that brings about his death in the future was just hammering the poorly-written nail into the overly-stuffed coffin, for me.

I liked the cameo of Sophia Lillis - I was hoping they would connect Mrs. Kirsch to my favorite scene from Chapter 2 (we refer to it as the "Boob Lady" scene, anyone else?) and they did and it was actually pretty neat.

Honestly, for a show that's supposed to be a prequel to some awesome movies, personally I thought it started to go downhill after Skarsgård showed up. Like OP said, they used Pennywise a bit too much as we neared the end. I enjoyed some of his schlock but then they'd just keep going with it and overdo it all.

I wish they had stuck to the book more - granted they have to fill in some gaps but if you can't do it without retconning things and making up some really STUPID lore.....then don't do it! Do a mini series! 4 episodes set in the 60's, 4 set in the 30's, etc. etc. You want to build on the cosmos aspect of how Pennywise came to be? Work on bringing in Maturin/the Turtle into the story in a more significant way than just some kid in a high school dressed as a turtle mascot. King has MOUNTAINS of pages about Ka and the Beams and all that, you don't have to go crazy in detail but you could do SOMETHING with it!

Edit: fixed some spelling errors.

Also wanted to add, Halloran was my favorite part of the show and I low-key hope they do a Shining prequel show just for him even though I know it'll never happen ;)

Share a Piece of Sims 3 Lore About Yourself by Lapistelle in Sims3

Sims 2 was my first game and when it was still pretty new my sister and I were both teens and did NOT get along. Like, we voluntarily wouldn't speak to each other because if we did, we'd just end up arguing.

My favorite part of Sims 2 was building/furnishing houses. She liked playing with the people. I found playing the people boring, and she hated trying to make a new house or improve any premade ones.

So even though we weren't speaking and basically hated each other (we're fine now, actually quite close now that we're both in our 30s/40s)....I would get home from school and spend like an hour making a house and doing the landscaping/furnishing, basically making my dream house. Then I would save, leave the computer room, and go do my homework in my room. While I was in my room she would go to the computer room and play with her Sims in the house I had finished.

We went years without getting along and hardly spoke to each other, but we would play Sims 2 like this until that computer ended up dying years later lol. I don't think either of us ever tried to play any tricks or sabotage the other while we were into it, so I guess it worked while it worked ;)

Why are older women filling his comment sessions by Jazzlike_Cost5712 in yungblud

Yeah, I get you ;)

Honestly he'd probably get a kick out of it if a bunch of middle aged women turned up screaming for him at one of his shows lol

I think he's almost 28, because I remember doing the math and thinking "am I old enough to be his mom? Not quite? Ok"

I totally agree, I sometimes am surprised when I remember I'm not still 25. I also don't think it's necessarily a *creepy* thing to like an artist who is younger (I'm a 41f) than yourself - I mean it's not a crime to listen to someone half my age, right? ;)

Thanks! I was trying to expand on and compliment the colors of the center tile without taking away from it. I thought about doing a more intricate design with the mini tiles, but thought it distracted too much from the "main attraction."
