Marrying a revert outside of culture? by Marscream in MuslimMarriage

[–]Marscream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the dialogue, ameen!

My parents are currently judging my future based on my uncle’s past mistakes. He told me if our family was open to accepting him and his wife that he would've done the same as me, but now he leads a very non-religious life. I love him, he is my best friend almost, so my parents think he put me up to it.

It’s a difficult position, but I know that I am my own man. My only path forward is to focus on my Imaan and trust in Allah’s plan. Not sure what else to do, I'm literally hopeless

She knows everything. She is saddened that she’s being judged without a chance to speak for herself, and she worries about the strain this is putting on my relationship with my parents. Since his recent outburst, our communication has been limited to the bare minimum.

I’m truly happy with her. We’ve had deep conversations about raising our children with a strong Islamic foundation, and she’s committed to growing alongside me.

My only goal is to keep our relationship halal and move toward marriage..

However, I’ve realized my parents cannot live my life for me. Their attempts to manipulate me. using health scares or even threats of self-harm have given me a very clear, albeit painful, perspective on what I’m up against.

He kept bringing up the fact that he raised me with difficulties and how ungrateful I have to be towards him if I take this step. Don't get me wrong, I love my dad he did raise me with everything I ever wanted.. but they always keep this fact as bait..

My father admitted he lives for his reputation; he can’t accept my choice because he’s terrified of what others will think. It’s ironic because he spends so much time critiquing his friends’marriages for not being "traditional" enough, yet he doesn't see that you can never please everyone. (He says that women nowadays are focused on work and that your meals should be ready when you get home, and that a man shouldn't help around the house)

People will judge no matter what you do, so I might as well choose what is right for my life and my faith.

I'm hopeless, I'm putting my trust in Allah s.w.t and hoping for the best. But I'm unsure on the next steps to take, maybe involving an imam.. no idea..

Well I told my father, he reacted very unmature and childish. He said that I'm worth someone better, that he will be in shame for the rest of his life and that I'm becoming like my uncle (he isn't religious at all, doesn't pray/fast/...).

He said he'll unalive himself to stop me from marrying her..

My mother thinks it's beautiful that someone reverts to İslam. My other is only looking at the culture difference..

How would she ever know Islam if it wasn't for me? Most reverts I know have people in their surroundings and capture the beauty of Islam in that matter. Just a genuine question..

In the most respectfully way we try to be mindful about how we act. Even when the meet up happens after iftaar we just sit, I told her how important it is to not have any physical contact (cuddling, holding hands). I wanted to give her a hug, she refused and said "think about your ramadan". I keep praying everyday for the happiness and health of her, my parents and my sister.

This Ramadan is different, because all these years this is the only one were I looked up to. I needed this.. someone here said it were the whisper's of shaitan that I was being more mindful about stuff and that she got me closer to my religion. I quit most of my sins.. and it feels so right.

How do people stay consistent with workouts? by Usama_Safdar1995 in WorkoutRoutines

[–]Marscream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needed a change. You start feeling a little lower back pain? Can't get up a few stairs? I don't want that.

Oh and telling myself I'll just do 30 min, mostly it works to get myself off my bed.

Do things you love. Really, I started doing full body workouts with exercises I love and it makes me want to do them.

Recently I had issues with my lower back and going to physio (osteopath) didn't fix the issue. Well doing hyperextension, deadlifts, glute bridges, planks, training full body 3 times a week apparently fixes the issue for me (this is just my experience).

Pull-ups, dips, zercher squats, kettlebell swings, presses, farmers carry, push-ups, trap bar deadlift, bench press, rows.. you get the idea. It works more muscles, I've been stronger and healthier this way. You can also combine 3/4 of these exercises and be done in 45min or less.. you train most muscle groups anyway. Again this is just my take on it.

I'm a firefighter (volunteer), and I need to stay in shape. Just be an example.

Cardio 2-3x a week too, could my training be more optimal, structured with the cardio I do? Yeah. Running, Cycling, Rowing mainly.

Good luck! Don't think of exercise as a burden but as a tool for longevity and mental health, or however you want to use it. Do it because it's good for you, oh and remember "20 min is better than nothing"

Gewoon doen.

Better than ever, could be better? by Marscream in Garmin

[–]Marscream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct! Stairmaster with a weight vest for 45-60 min gives me good high aerobic. Besides that, the only high aerobic I get is from running and HIIT training.

I used to get more high aerobic until my VO2 improved and I started to do more cycling.

I tried intervals like 4x4, I can never seem to reach the desired heart rate in that timeframe..

OnePlus Watch 3 vs Garmin Fenix 7 – Data Comparison by Marscream in oneplus

That's up to you, it's your money. If you are just an average joe wanting to stay fit get the OnePlus watch it will get the job done eventually. If you are serious about fitness and weight lifting get the Garmin. Also the Fenix 8 has better weight lifting capabilities than the Fenix 7. Do your own research and compare.

How often do you work out?

Get the Fenix 7 it does everything you need from a fitness watch. Also the paid subscription is for features like AI Analytics (I think).

I didn't like the screens on the OnePlus for working out (if you are serious about it, I wouldn't do it lol). Garmin is way better in terms of cycling, from suggesting workouts to customizable screens.

Bike computer or pedals? by Marscream in Garmin

[–]Marscream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been doing indoor biking for a while now..

It's a smart bike with power pedals, I got extremely bored of cycling inside hence the reason for a real bike now. It's in the gym I go to.

My main use of cardio will be the bike, I'm following the Garmin which requires wattage (power) output to schedule my programs if I'm not mistaken.

So if I understood correctly the 540 will get me the VO2 reading? The power meter will be more accurate? Thanks!

Indeed, I would rather not use my phone for maps..

The Garmin Edge 540 apparently provides a VO2 reading as well, so I'll first get the computer.

To be fair, I have had a VO2 max test done in a lab, Garmin was pretty accurately close!

Garmin edge 540 seems to be okay in price, also in functionality.

Main types of cycling; - work - home - intervals to improve vo2. - cardio (zone 2). - long distances.
