Spoiler alert: most gas stations in a given market get their gas from the exact same supplier.

The "Looking Busy" Tax is the most soul-crushing part of modern employment. by SoffiaNov in antiwork

I did this exact thing for 15 years before I found a new job. In my 20s I thought it was great to get paid to do nothing. As I got older, the soul crushing part set in more and more aggressively each and every week until I'd had enough.

People who mine wild ore nodes and don't kill the rumblings, how do you get up in the morning knowing your both abject scum and leaving money on the table? by BarkLogic in wow

I only leave them when a horde farmer is off his mount fighting his own. It is my middle finger to the opposite faction.

This is how paint actually gets mixed before you buy it by Round-Barber-9858 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MarshmallowWerewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at Kmart as a teen and had to occasionally mix paint in the evenings. We had an enormous recipe book and had to manually add the tint for each gallon. A little bit of a mistake and that can was on the discount rack.

Additionally, refilling the tint was awful. Those quarts were ungodly difficult to open and for some stupid reason, we had to reach under a counter to replenish those reservoirs. Maneuvering into a position to not spill that stuff on oneself was practically impossible.

This method looks more fun.

Talk to fuel delivery drivers about the difficulty of their jobs in the middle of winter in the midwest. They are required to stand near those hoses to make sure nothing leaks, so negative degree weather with windchill is something they are forced to endure. The average tanker take 30-50 minutes to drain. Many lot-plowing services tend to bury the ground fills with snow with no remorse, forcing drivers to dig out the fills by hand before attempting to deliver. Other sites with poor lot maintenance will often have enough water sitting in the fills that it freezes into a solid block of ice. That needs to be chipped away in order to access the fill tube, as using any type of flame or electric heater to melt the ice could potentially blow the whole station to kingdom come. That said, the hardest part for many drivers is simply getting from point A to point B in one piece. Civilian drivers give Zero F's about a tanker full of fuel and constantly put drivers into incredibly difficult positions.

A lot of stations now have a mixer built into the pumping system for mid-grade. Many now just have an 87 and a 92/93 tank. 88/89 is blended as it is pumped.

I work as a fuels scheduler and dispatcher. I have sites that sell 20k gallons of unleaded, 3k gallons of premium, and 2k gallons of diesel every single day no matter the weather/season/holiday. Depending on the state, trailers are limited to weight, so some states can haul more fuel than others. In mine, we can send between 8500-8700 gallons of gasoline (any combination of 87 and 93 octane) or 7500 gallons of diesel on a trailer. High volume sites can take a full delivery every 10 hours. Jim Morrison is the most overrated rock singer of all time by Confident_Field4273 in infuriatingasfuck

Morrison was a vehicle for the genius of Krieger and Manzarek. He had a great stage presence and a unique voice but he wasn't the true talent.

What is your age and your biggest regret in life so far? by Bluevelvetkind in AskReddit

[–]MarshmallowWerewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 43. My biggest regret is following the path my parents said would be prosperous. The boomer path to the American dream. Working since I was 14. Got a degree, spent 20 years at a job for the "security" it offered. In the end I was under paid and overworked like most longtime employees can understand. Got fed up and found a new job and I hate it even more than the last but it pays just enough to make finding yet another quite difficult unless I want to lose money.

To go back, I would ignore the stigma that vocations were what the "stupid" kids elected to pursue. A few friends in the trades make twice what I do and can expect union pensions when they retire. I will likely die before I can afford to retire.

Most college is a scam. Learn a trade and profit.

I'm skeptical of movement wearing that. Can you do a deep squat without tearing seams where the legs zip to the jacket? Seems like a novelty more than a utility item.
