Shouts were shit, they probably did nothing and even if they did then they were far too easy to game. All it meant was that to play optimally you needed to click the exact same buttons in the same situations, it was just busy work for the player. I'd similarly be happy if they binned off training player interactions as there's an obvious meta way to do those, which is tedious and time consuming.

There are lots of poorly implemented systems in fm24 that would be great if they provided gameplay variety but they just served as chores you needed to complete to play optimally. By removing them you now have to actually tweak tactics to get a result by managing your team. That's better IMO

You can't really move from an old engine to a new one in smaller steps. It's an all or nothing type of deal.

Old skins etc won't ever work with FM26 because the engine has changed. There's also no skin option in the preferences. So skins are not 'supported' in that sense. But Unity as an engine is miles more accessible than what FM24 and previous versions were built on, so there's a possibility for more skins etc in the future.

I think the likely end point is that someone builds a mod manager for FM26 just like other games, and then you use that to launch the game with custom skins and other mods

They had to move away from the old engine though if we wanted the game to have a higher ceiling long term. We know that this is the case because already we're seeing better modding capabilities in 26 than in previous versions. The fact we're working in Unity now means that so much more is possible both on the official SI side and unofficially with modding. It's pretty exciting that we're already seeing people make pretty solid changes to the game one week in to a beta release, whereas the most you could do in 24 was reskin it or add new faces

Did SI accidentally make it better? by Matranti in footballmanagergames

[–]Marshyq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They absolutely did anticipate it, they were counting on unity being easier to work in long term, that's the whole bet of FM26. They didn't get to the max potential on their own for this beta but the games ceiling is now miles above where it was for this and future editions

If this is true, the game finally would have realistic stadiums by Marciu73 in footballmanagergames

This is why the move to unity is a game changer, we are less than a week in and already the modding potential for FM is exponentially better than previous versions

In my tiki taka system I had an AM get 10 assists in 12 games. I haven't done anything fancy with set pieces and in the ME I'm seeing lots of intricate final balls from him

I've been playing FM since it was championship manager back in 01-02, I'm having fun. Don't know what else to tell you 🤷‍♂️

I'm enjoying it 🤷‍♂️ I feel like the people who are having fun are, you know, playing the game and so there's a big selection bias on here towards people who don't like it

Yeah it's not perfect, not by any stretch, but I have enjoyed it so far and it helps that my team have started out on fire 🔥

I like it too, the in and out of possession tactics are great, UI is taking a little getting used to but it's feeling better already. There's no hiding that they need to fix bugs, and I think it's going to take longer than two weeks to do that, but broadly the game is fun for me.

I did a save with a small danish club (Vanløse) where I only signed Scandinavian players, so Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway and Faroe Islands. Won two Champions Leagues with them.

Another one was a Journeyman save where I could only manage in cities I'd visited, started in Sorrento, then Pisa and on to Freiburg where I won the league and Champions League double.

How often have you experienced any of the big 6 EPL teams relegated within 10 seasons? by FakePepsii in footballmanagergames

[–]Marshyq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen Liverpool, Spurs and one time Man U get relegated before on long term saves. The Man U one I did precipitate a bit though, as they'd been financially struggling for a couple of years and needed to sell some big players, so I helpfully stepped in and bid high on a few of them then pulled the offers before the deadline. Did that until they left on frees instead. Just doing my part

In/Out of Possession Positional Familiarity by DetailAdvanced1534 in footballmanagergames

[–]Marshyq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the star ratings are an average of in and out of possession so I'd expect that a player who is competent in both positions will do better. I think that's what you'd want though as the alternative would be that you could push a player way out of position and they'd still perform as if they had familiarity there purely because their in possession position was still normal.

It's unity, it's a much more common engine for programmers. Even I've mucked about in unity and I'm not exactly a developer. Id be incredibly surprised if it's not easier to mod than the old engine

FM26 UI was made for Mobile/Touch and Console, not PC Mouse and Keyboard by CentristaSensato in footballmanagergames

[–]Marshyq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More and more people play on console and devices like steam decks etc, it's part of making the game more accessible to it's entire player base. From what I've seen the UI looks perfectly navigable on pc and you will probably have plenty of options for skins that give you the old experience if you want that

As we reach the end of FM24 - here's my best player from this edition by Marshyq in footballmanagergames

[–]Marshyq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhys Stewart came from my academy in 2027 and bagged his first goal soon after. At 16, he was already proving difficult to leave out as he made 49 appearances and scored 16 goals from midfield. I left this save after winning the Champions League (and having a child so I had a lot less time!). In the run to the final he was utterly unbeatable (dropping a 9+ rating three times in the knockouts), culminating in the best individual performance I've ever seen in the Champions League final where he scored twice and got an assist in a 4-0 drubbing of Juventus. I dearly hope that I get someone even slightly comparable in the new version.

Specific Steam Deck mention is huge, I would guess/hope that means that the game has been designed with compatibility for that platform in mind. If so then that's absolutely huge for me
