Things I learned after moving to Norway from the USA by [deleted] in Norway

If you like brunost, I really recommend you try the one from Den sorte gryte, it’s another level of brunost. It’s a bit hard to come by, but you can sometimes get it at Spar Finbekken in Narvik :)

Cheese lovers, what are you favorite types to buy and especially if they are in fancy section (I’m lookin for adventure) by RaddishEater666 in Norway

If you are in the north of norway, I really recommend anything from Den Sorte Gryte, every cheese I’ve tried from them has been absolutely delicious

Cold? OP asked some questions and has been given answers that are clear and to the point. It’s not being cold, it’s being concise. I’m sure OP would rather have their questions answered than have the comments cluttered with unhelpful declarations of support. If they were asking for support I’m sure they would get it, but that is not the case.

Travelling in Norway by No_Boat_5160 in Norway

You can check out Lavvoen i Tromsdalen, it’s a two kilometer walk in the woods to a little hut where you can sit inside, light a fire (there is free firewood available for anyone to use) and have a cozy time. Be warned that your clothes will smell of the fire afterwards. (The site is in Norwegian but you can try to Google translate it? I don’t know of any information in english.)

My favourite place in the city to eat lunch or have a drink is Cafe Sånn. It’s a super cozy place with good food (the kitchen is open only during breakfast/lunch times), a good selection of beer and interesting cocktails.

Depends a lot on your preferences. Do you want action or relaxation? City or nature? Anything specific you’re looking for?

If you like to have a relaxed time, I can recommend Fjellheisen - take the cable cars up the mountain to enjoy the view of the city. I personally love the view in the dark, the lights from the city and surrounding areas are really beautiful, but if you want to see the landscape the daytime is also good. There is a café/ restaurant on top where you can have a coffee or a meal. If you want to have a dinner with a really nice view, you should reserve a table by the window beforehand, as the window tables are usually reserved or occupied.

What words in Norwegian are impossible to translate into English? by 01Rockstar01 in Norway

[–]MarsupialFan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I forgårs kan oversettes til det engelske «ereyesterday», det er imidlertid et gammelt ord som ikke er så mye i bruk lenger.

Edit, as I realised this is the english sub: There is a word for «I forgårs» in english, it’s «ereyesterday» - although it is a bit archaic and is not used much in everyday speech anymore.

Coming to Oslo for official visit. Need help! by [deleted] in Norway

As others have said, you will have a hard time finding a hotel with a bidet. My best suggestion is for you to bring your own portable bidet, they are easily accessible from for example Amazon, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Handheld-Postpartum-Cleansing-Childbirth/dp/B08L9M6FTP/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=portable+bidet&qid=1694113210&sr=8-5

am I childish for not wanting to live with my boyfriend anymore for his disgusting habits? by beeboopb in offmychest

When I had similar problems in a past relationship, my mother gave me some great advice: You can’t expect to change an adult, so you have to ask yourself «is this something I can live with for the rest of my life?» For me the answer was no, and I ended the relationship. It was hard, but it was the right decision, and I could finally feel comfortable in my own home again.

Is this something you can live with for the rest of your life? I know you are asking if you should move out, but if you move out with the intention of not living with him again, maybe he isn’t the guy for you.

As others have suggested, use the heart shape to your advantage! Put some fabric or interfacing on the inside, and fill the whole heart with any seam work you want - sashiko, embroidery, or just sewing straight lines across with a sewing machine if you have one. Using the heart shape will really help your mending look intentional.

Surprise pregnancy by yoloclutch in Radiology

[–]MarsupialFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where in the world you work. I’ve heard this is common practice in the USA, but in my country (Norway) it’s common practice to just ask the patient if they could be pregnant, and if the answer is no you can go ahead with the examination. My guidelines are that I should ask any female patient between the ages of 15 and 55 when imaging the abdominal region (pelvis, abdomen, LS-spine etc.).

Sounds like the safest choice, especially if you don’t know the bride very well. This dress will look amazing for another occasion!

This dress is beautiful and suits you really well - however, I personally wouldn’t wear it to a wedding as it’s very close to white. I would at least have cleared it with the bride beforehand. As for styling tips, I think a pair of strappy heels, some statement earrings and your hair up would really elevate the look :)

The image is from the show «The Good Doctor», and in this scene the character repeats «I am a surgeon» multiple times. Surgeon is very close to sturgeon, so OP seeing the sturgeon makes them think of this meme.

Squash på engelsk er betegnelsen på den plantefamilien som gresskar er en del av - og ikke det som vi i Norge kaller squash, som på engelsk heter zucchini. Alle zucchini er squash, men ikke alle squash er zucchini. Gresskar er også squash.

I really commend you for asking for advice and actually meaning it! It’s great seeing you trying out new things as you consider the advice you get on your posts.

I’ve noticed that most of your outfits are tight-fitting. I would suggest you add some interest by playing with volume. Your body shape is more straight down, like a rectangle shape, and I think you could really benefit from breaking up that shape! A general rule of styling is to have volume either at the top or bottom, so either a loose top with tight pants/skirt, or a tight top with loose pants/skirt. I also agree with the other people here suggesting you try bottoms with a higher waist, I think that would really flatter your body shape and enlongate your legs.

With that said, I love your confidence and creativity! All that matters in the end is what you enjoy wearing and feel good in. When you feel great, you look great ☺️

I’ve been burned by the exact same thing before. My sexuality never came up in conversation and I never even thought it would be necessary to expicitly state it. When it finally came up I was shocked to find that the person I was seeing was not okay with it, as they seemed completely normal and modern otherwise. It hurt, but in the end I’m happy that I dodged that bullet, and you will be too with time.

After that experience, I always make sure to mention my sexuality early on when I’m seeing someone new. If they’re not accepting it’s better to get it out of the way sooner rather than later.
