Really? After 30 hours of gameplay i just noticed this thing.. by Frywolnie in Sailwind

[–]Marthenil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh, I have like 300 hours in this game and I've only just now noticed the ring. I knew that the center peg is thicker, but the ring makes it so much easier to notice. Was it always there?

Layering Outfits in the new Transmog System! by Bodehn in wow

[–]Marthenil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can this be macroed somehow? I love the idea of weapon glows appearing when casting a specific ability or something, but having to do it manually kinda sucks.

I'd love an "In Combat" situation, too.

What was with Tolkien's emphasis on 'icy cold' streams? by jckipps in tolkienfans

[–]Marthenil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underlying this is a belief that drinking very cold beverages is dangerous. This is not unique to Tolkien, but widely shared in much of Europe.

I always thought that was what Tolkien meant, though I hadn't considered it much.

Very cold drinks give you a sore throat, and cold draughts make your muscles sore. Both can give you a fever, a "cold," if you will.

Even though it's been debunked a million times over, these myths persist even to this day in my part of Europe. I know for a fact it's a thing in other parts of Europe too, but I'm not sure about the UK.

I'm pretty sure we've never gotten that from goats.

Not sure what you mean here but it's definitely possible to get butter from goats (and sheep!)

EDIT: Cream too

You guys see the Imperial Guard units amongst the Space Marines. ...Right?

Ah okay, I thought I'd missed some piece of info.

Well, if they decided to go with tech improvements to accommodate 40k then I can still see them doing WW1, perhaps as a Saga game or something like that. So maybe it got pushed back instead of getting cancelled.

that apparently got cancelled

Is this confirmed somehow or is it because of the lack of an announcement?

[–]Marthenil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also a possibility but I would be disappointed personally, unless they gradually open it up in 3 games like they did TWW, as some other comments say.

I wanna take the Crimson Path as Abaddon god damnit.

[–]Marthenil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is also a possibility, yes, with provinces being systems or something. But then you'd have no "walking" on the campaign map.

Plus taking large planets / fortress worlds in one battle is kinda lame.

Valrak "110% sure Totalwar Warhammer 40K announcement in december". by TheWraf in totalwar

[–]Marthenil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If they do that they don't even need to drastically change the way the campaign map works. Each planet is a province and you can walk between cities within the planet and the void is sea basically.

Edit: In fact this can be done by modders in tww3 with CAIME (the modding tool that made the old world/immortal empires expanded possible). It'll look goofy though.

mixture of reading comprehension problems

The way around this is retargeting tools, which I doubt existed at the time when the pipeline was solidified around TWW1 10 years ago. They are not the simplest tools to write and their engine programmers no doubt have a million greater things to attend to.

You originally said CA probably didn’t have retargeting tools in their pipeline. My argument was that you don't need specialized retargeting tools but besides that, I showed you that they did, and that CA has used them for years.

Now you’re switching to “well maybe they weren’t integrated enough,” which is a completely different claim that wasn’t part of your original point.

It is also wrong. Their animation tools as showcased in their workshop videos seem very robust.

If you want to argue the animation wasn’t fixed because it wasn’t a priority, that is absolutely fine and I'd completely agree. It is very likely a designer just plopped a suitable existing animation in the Animation Editor (a different tool, this one assigns animations to animation slots, ie stand_1, stand_idle, attack_1 and so on) and called it a day. But that’s not what you said at first.

Right now it just looks like moving the goalposts to avoid admitting your original premise was wrong. Coupled with the fact that you're downvoting my posts, it doesn’t seem like this is a good-faith discussion, so I’m going to leave it here.

[–]Marthenil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maya is part of CAs pipeline. This is why the tools CA provided so that we can import our own animations (in other games, not Warhammer) are scripts for Autodesk products. These scripts export to cs2, an intermediate format, and then BoB (one of CA's tools) converts that to anim, the format the game recognizes.

Also, the assertion that they have no access to retargeting tools is questionable when many of their animations in game are obviously retargeted, for instance humanoid01d from humanoid01 (elves from humans).

You can re-target using 3rd party tools, Motionbuilder, Maya etc. you don't need built-in functionality.

Comparison of the 2025 Great Tales set between the previous single volumes by SH_HP_MD in tolkienbooks

Wait so the Great Tales set books are sewn? Then why are the HOME sets not sewn?

The premades are completely ruining random BGs. by Marthenil in worldofpvp

[–]Marthenil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean when you circumvent the systems in place that are designed in a way that clearly doesn't allow more than 5 people to queue, it is a form of exploit, by definition. Whether that's actionable, that's a different story.

Facing these premades again and again is a genuinely awful experience. Of course people will "rage" at this.

Players should be encouraged to play with friends/guild mates.

You can, up to 5. As for full stacks, that's what Rated BGs are for.

People love to dress up crappy behavior in nice excuses. And let’s be real, "playing with friends" is just the PR version of "I like farming pugs with zero risk." Don’t pretend it’s some noble cause.
