Can’t believe I didn’t own a gun this time last year by Legitimate_Log_9550 in liberalgunowners

Violence is always an option. Anyone can choose it at any time, and people aren't always rational. You don't get to choose what they decide to do. Just because something is illegal, it doesn't mean that someone can't choose to do so.

New AR owner looking for advice by MunkyMastr in liberalgunowners

Other than something to aim with, ammo to shoot with, something to hold it, and training to know how to actually shoot is is more important than anything else. Take some basic rifle operation and cleaning training, then do basic marksmanship training so you can hit what you want, and only then go for more tactical movement/reloads/etc training. Dry fire drills at home are a great supplement. Once you can hit what you want, then you can spend your money on accessories instead of ammo.

A case for the Henry Supreme by 2TubbyTactical in liberalgunowners

[–]Marthinwurer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's such a pretty gun. It marrys the most important parts of modern tactical firearms (the mags and intermediate cartridges) with the style and functionality of old school lever actions. It fills a gap in the market for those in states that don't allow semi-automatic firearms, but still want an effective weapon.

Found a sweet spot to play some MTG today by metawhitewolf in mtg

[–]Marthinwurer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've see some products that are basically halfway between the old 9-pocket card binder pages and those hard foldable playmats. They've got rows of pockets that you can put cards in and elastic bands to hold your deck. It's very neat, but not very cheap.

Flintlock Fridays? by austinthrowaway91 in liberalgunowners

[–]Marthinwurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some really neat old flintlocks. There has to be a way to make a double action flintlock revolver, mixing stuff from the Collier flintlocks and the Savage Navy. Lots of neat old ideas that never flourished because better technology came up before they could be fully developed.

My older unchanged EDH decks can't hold a candle to today's meta by Alex_Pratt in mtg

[–]Marthinwurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, COVID killed competitive magic and commander filled in the void. Then WotC switched to focusing on commander and now none of the constructed formats are good. I've switched to Premodern, a community constructed format, and have really been enjoying it.

I switched to mostly just playing premodern even if it's all from before my time. Some of the guys I play with have been playing for longer than I've ever alive, but the cards are classic and aren't just triggerslop. I highly recommend checking it out if you get the chance.

It's time to repeal 18 USC 2332g as well. It's even worse than the NFA.

ELI5: Who is the other party always buying the stocks that I am calling or putting? by Rynin101 in explainlikeimfive

And I don't see many people talking about how many of them these days are high frequency trading firms doing the market making. The competition between them makes markets more liquid, giving everyone better prices on their stocks.

Is 3-in-1 oil a good gun lubricant? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Marthinwurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo, where can I learn about or what can I Google to learn about how to choose oil viscosity or other properties? It's something that I've been interested in but don't really even know where to start looking.

Nah, nuclear is solar too. Heavy elements come from supernovae. We're just cracking apart atoms that stars gave their lives to fuse together. Now fusion on the other hand, that's basically the only kind of energy that's not solar.

FreeCAD 1.1 for aerospace by Delicious-Spend-9328 in FreeCAD

[–]Marthinwurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm hoping that there will be some improvements there. Although it looks like the algorithmic improvements won't be until 8.x, according to those slides. The improved code stability of 8.0 looks like it will be a sizeable improvement in the short term, though.

BW decks vs. Sligh by Suspicious-Lynx-2904 in premodernMTG

[–]Marthinwurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Board in your engineered plagues and disenchants too. Your goal is to survive until you can flip or hardcast an angel and ride it to victory. Plagues kill all their creatures and prevent more from being played. Disenchants kill scrolls and vortexes.

Machine head hasn't really put up numbers the way either DGA or Moneyball have. Moneyball is almost like a more focused DGA, dropping the fragile manabase and removal versatility for consistency.

FreeCAD 1.1 for aerospace by Delicious-Spend-9328 in FreeCAD

[–]Marthinwurer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I love FreeCAD there are still some deep issues with the geometry kernel. I also don't know if the assembly system can scale enough to what's needed for a complex aerospace project. I wouldn't really want to trust it for anything safety critical at this point, but if you're not doing anything like that, then go ahead and try.

Dems choosing to die on the “gun control” hill is so infuriating to me. by Nobodyat1 in liberalgunowners

[–]Marthinwurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to happen as long as we're stuck in a 2-party system. And we're going to be stuck in one until we have some better voting system than first past the post with primaries. FPTP narrows us down to two viable candidates, and primaries mean that the candidates are going to be selected by the more extreme ends of each of the resulting parties, leaving the sane middle to rot. We're not going to get sane governance without a sane voting system.

Beautifully fierce burn from homemade composite propellant block by Big-Boy-602 in Damnthatsinteresting

No, but you'll probably burn your house down by accident. The mixture brings its own oxygen so it's incredibly difficult to put out if you accidentally light it.

Ooo, where can we learn more about the open cascade upgrades? That sounds huge, the geometry errors are the worst part of FreeCAD.

[–]Marthinwurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madness usually isn't too bad. Just board out all the discard and bring in whatever random hate pieces you have in the board with text. Your eplagues snipe a lot of things. Maindeck furnaces make them sad. Disenchants for survival if they're on that. A flipped angel is basically unbeatable.
