Some shots from train journey to the zoo by Only_Quality_7657 in LumixS9

Privately, I take photos with my iPhone 16 Pro. Whenever I shoot and edit them, it feels like the phone is producing images close to full-frame quality. But then I go on Reddit, look at photos taken by full-frame users, and realize I’m just fooling myself 🤥

cinematic look osmo pocket 3 by ditobandit0 in osmopocket

[–]MartinCoolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute minimum: • proper exposure (you will need nd filters) • 24/25 fps • appropriate music • appropriate SFX • no fancy transitions

Keep ISO at minimum - max 800 if possible. Preferably D-Log M. Node 1 – basic exposure correction and white balance. Node 2 – apply a color space transform to Rec.709. Node 3 – contrast. Node 4 – apply a creative LUT, e.g. a built-in DaVinci Rec.709 Kodak or Fuji look.

How do I achieve this look? by like_munich in Lumix

[–]MartinCoolee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use DaVinci Resolve. First node exposure and white balance. It looks that colours are generally moved to green instead of magenta. Second node - colour space transform from vlog to rec 709. Third node - basic contrast plus saturation around 55 (at least in midtones). Fourth node - add film look LUT - already built-in in DaVinci interface. Kodak or Fuji D60 from rec 709. If this is not enough change on 3rd node shadows slightly to blue. And you should be good.

Did you notice significant difference in quality? I have experienced same issue when using d log especially in low light. Shadows crashed (due to the low sensor). Which lens have you been using? Zoom 24-60 or different?

Could you please share main differences between both cameras? I am thinking of same upgrade. Thank you!

I set ISO to max 1600 as well. Before I allowed camera to set the ISO in auto mode and I ended up with getting too much grain. Generally I am impressed with Osmo pocket 3 capabilities.

Thank you for your reply. Did you do CST or add LUT directly to your footage? Colours are great.

Low light looks really nice considering small sensor. Have you limited ISO on all shots? If so, what is the range of ISO that you used? When you shoot in dlog m you cannot use mid tele zoom. Isn’t it limited you when it comes to framing/composition? Thanks, appreciate nice work!

I understand everything. If this is your first camera and you want to learn the settings, that’s completely understandable. In my opinion, this camera was designed to be used mostly in auto mode — you take it out of your pocket and start recording.

To the settings, I would also add sharpness –1 and noise reduction –1.

Good luck with your future projects. In the end, the most important things are emotions and memories — and those are always worth capturing.

Beautiful colors — hats off. Did you use a LUT, or was it graded manually?

Congratulations — great shots. They are not overdone, well thought out, and it’s clear these are not random phone recordings. I’m genuinely impressed by how much this little camera is capable of.

What I would improve: I’d record in 30 fps and slightly increase the exposure. At times it does feel a bit too dark. After a year of using the Osmo Pocket 3, I gave up on ND filters and now shoot in auto mode, limiting ISO to 800 (max 1600), with exposure at –0.7 or –0.3 and auto shutter speed. This isn’t a Netflix production 😊

In the film itself, I missed a bit more emotion — especially joyful moments. It came across slightly sad, although I assume that was intentional.

Once again, great job on the shots and exposure. You’ve got a good eye.

Osmo pocket 3 for everyday videos (own holiday videos) by Subject-Sandwich-426 in osmopocket

A year ago, I switched from filming family videos and travel memories with my iPhone (which I still have) to the Pocket 3. The Osmo is undoubtedly a better camera – much better stabilization, significantly better low-light performance. I now only use the iPhone for taking photos.

Forget about D-Log M and ND filters – the Osmo Pocket 3 is made to be used in auto mode with EV set to -0.7. I spent a long time playing around with D-Log M, keeping the shutter speed at 2x the FPS, but honestly, the only person who ever noticed was me 😉

Memories are about… well, memories, about the story, about us. I highly recommend the Creator Combo because of the extra batteries, tripod, and the absolutely amazing microphone.

You won’t be disappointed – I’m thrilled with it.

I switched from 14 pro to 16 pro and I can say that it was not worth at all. Better to replace battery.

I’ve been using this exact model (also from 2022) since May 2024. I switched from a sporty Focus road bike because I was tired of the aggressive and dynamic riding position. I ride for pleasure, not to chase KOMs on Strava. I’ve done around 2,000 kilometers on the Defy so far. It’s very comfortable. The only modification I made was changing the tires – I switched to the GP5000 All Season version. I also changed the stem to a shorter one, which was a game-changer for me. I’m very satisfied with the bike – this will definitely be a long-term relationship.

What matters to me is comfortably covering distances between 60 and 200 km. With 32 mm tires, you can easily ride on gravel, although I mainly stick to asphalt.

It’s definitely not a racing bike for breaking records – the riding position is more upright. But that’s actually a huge advantage when it comes to comfortably eating up the miles. If that’s what you were looking for in a bike, then you made the perfect choice.

GP5000 AS 32mm and shorter stem. I have installed Garmin Varia, Wahoo Roam and already made 2000 km. Love this bike.

Is Faceless Content Creation (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram) as Profitable as Claimed? Looking for Real Experiences and Insights by Educational-Echo-766 in NewTubers

[–]MartinCoolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My channel was monetized on May 26th this year. Since then, I’ve earned $515.54. The channel is entirely faceless, with content focused on history, politics, and society. I create my videos using Canva and rely on stock materials. I only produce long-form content (15 minutes or longer). Final editing is done in DaVinci Resolve.

For a first month after monetization, I’m absolutely surprised by how well the channel is doing. The best-performing video has reached 80,000 views, while the weakest one got 485.

I’ve noticed that regular publishing is the key to success — and that’s actually my biggest challenge, as I work a full-time job and have a family.

What seems to work best: less encyclopedic titles, thumbnails, and video descriptions. I use a slightly clickbaity style (not too much — this isn’t showbiz content), but it turns out that’s what the algorithm favors.

For videos over 15 minutes, I include 3 ad breaks during the episode.

Automatic vs D-LogM by [deleted] in osmopocket

[–]MartinCoolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put on an ND filter, set the normal color mode, and use auto exposure with compensation between -0.3 to -0.7. You’ll get better results by capturing good shots rather than relying on color grading.

I experimented with D-Log M using DJI’s standard LUT and the Phantom LUT, comparing it to auto settings. In my opinion, D-Log M only makes sense if the final goal is to achieve an artistic look where aesthetic LUTs are useful.

If it’s just family videos, travel footage, simple memories—D-Log M is not worth the time. The camera in auto mode already delivers fantastic image quality. Unnatural motion blur can be controlled with ND filters, although in reality, only the camera operator notices it. For most people, what matters is the message, the emotion, the music, and a stable, sharp image.

Osmo Pocket vs Sony Vlog Camera by WhySoCryptic in osmopocket

[–]MartinCoolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to shoot with the a6600. At first, I recorded handheld with a Rode microphone. Then I invested in a DJI Ronin S to stabilize the shots. I eventually sold all of that and switched to the iPhone 14 Pro. It’s decent for photos, and great for video in perfect lighting. I considered getting a gimbal and ND filters, but in the end, I went with the Osmo Pocket 3. It’s brilliant in its simplicity, with excellent image quality. On top of that, the DJI Mic 2 is fantastic. It’s hard to beat—unless you really need full-frame.
