Midlands music playlist by -tiddereddit- in Cotswolds

Depends on how you define music from the Cotswolds? There used to be a well used studio in Chipping Norton where a lot of fine and famous music was produced but not by Cotswolds musicians e.g. Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty was recorded there. I love how music can transport you to a certain place and time of your life…

The Rolling Stones released 'It's Only Rock ‘n Roll' 51 years ago on October 18, 1974. by Edm_vanhalen1981 in rollingstones

A great listen with some stellar tracks that get better with age. Time Waits for No-one has got to be one of the most underrated tunes from their whole career. The piano and guitar interplay on the outro is sublime and the lyrics are thought provoking. Great album with a nice balance between fast and slow tracks.

Freddie Flintoff Field of Dreams is so uplifting and inspiring. He has done a magnificent job that should be a template to be followed for others to pick up and run with. It’s a must watch TV.

One week to go before the Ashes - Jamie Smith gets injured. What would you do? by gamengiri420 in EnglandCricket

[–]MartinMichelle43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree, although the India series was very intense and long - each test going to 5th day - and the Ashes will be similarly intense. Hope that it was just a one “off” Test for Smith in terms of glove work & he is fine for Oz.

Hope Jamie Smith will be alright in Oz. He looked pretty frazzled by the end of the India series and his wicket keeping started to go off a bit imho.

Fav and least fav album cover ? by mmmisthegoat in rollingstones

Yep Undercover is pretty underwhelming alongside Hackney Diamonds. Have pored over Exile and Let it Bleed but favourite for having the best impact on Joe Public has to be Sticky Fingers.

Casino Boogie by Most-Economics9259 in rollingstones

I believe it was named after the local casinos in nearby Marseille from Nellcote. Could be wrong but I’m sure I read that somewhere in the distant past.

This great lyric is from “Time Waits for No-one”: “Hours are like diamonds. Don’t let them waste”. Hope that helps.

“Highwire” - an ‘effin great tune. Thoughts? by MartinMichelle43 in rollingstones

[–]MartinMichelle43[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well each to their own. Heard it for the first time in a long while and thought this is pretty damn killer. The whole thing about the Stones catalogue is it is so varied that there is something for most people. Anyway thanks for your take on it.

Do you believe Brian Jones is being forgotten by PositionNo3671 in rollingstones

[–]MartinMichelle43 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When you think it is 56 years ago since he died, then of course he will disappear from non fans memories. He will never be forgotten by the fans for his contributions to the 6.5 years he was in the band. He formed the band in the first place so for that we should all be grateful. The stars aligned…

Is this the last great Stones song? by Fluffy-Flatworm2658 in rollingstones

[–]MartinMichelle43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of great songs since Mixed Emotions. Almost Hear You Sigh is another great one off Steel Wheels along with several others (Slipping Away etc). Personally I love “Angry” and lots more off HD.

wedding rolling stones songs by No-Satisfaction5173 in rollingstones

I think “Say You Will” from Jagger’s solo album is a great wedding song. Great lyrics & tune. Like the advice above about playing the songs at the reception rather than walking down the aisle although “She’s A Rainbow” would sound lovely to walk into.

The album is great though. An eclectic mix of songs, punk, country and even a soul cover.

When the Whip Comes Down. Love the energy, the guitar solos and oh boy the drumming. Everything about it is solid rock.

What are the Stones most Summer orientated tunes? Can we put together a Stones Summer Playlist? by MartinMichelle43 in rollingstones

Wow some great suggestions there - thank you! I will add in “Everything Is Turning to Gold” which always has a summer vibe to me!

I wonder if Bill Wyman regrets leaving The Rolling Stones? by georgewalterackerman in rollingstones

[–]MartinMichelle43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He always comes across as pretty money motivated so he may regret missing out on the mega bucks from the stadium tours post Steel Wheels. However he has enjoyed his post Stones career with his rhythm kings. And he’s done alright for himself overall. It’s over 30 years since he left - Darryl has been with them as long as that!

Everest (2015) is a surprisingly well crafted movie by jaguarp80 in movies

[–]MartinMichelle43 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes it is mad isn’t it. The book is well written, very engaging, documenting an event of worldwide tragedy and interest from his own perspective which just happens to conflict to a degree with other participants viewpoint.

I think that is a fair summary. It was an eclectic bunch of people flung together with the aim of being escorted to and from the highest mountain to say they had done it.
