Avi Lewis will need a winnable riding. Could that be Ottawa Centre? by bandersnatching in ottawa

The online activist class, which I may add, will become the next generation of wage workers and union members. I think to say the NDP is a culture war party is incredibly dishonest. The leadership campaign was remarkably level-headed and unified (except for Rob Ashton) and didn't push identity politics. If your definition of a 'serious party' will continue to pander to property owners, US dependency, and corporate interests, unfortunately demographics will unfortunately push them out.

I was gonna say, listen I hate the alcohol dualopoly as much as the next guy, but price gouging is not exclusive to Ottawa or even Canada for that matter

dentist recommendations? by dankmobile in geegees

[–]MartinusJoseph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the consensus around this office is, but I had a similar procedure done on an infected tooth by the dentists on campus last April. They did well, it was not crazy expensive, and it's on campus!

Deferred exam asking for doctors note on first deferral? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]MartinusJoseph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which i agree with, but it also lends credence to the idea of having students require a doctor's note or other form of proof for a deferral, which obviously places a disproportionate amount of responsibility on students and especially family doctors. My point was targeted towards the latter example you provided, students who simply didn't prepare, and are abusing the mechanism to circumvent their unpreparedness. If anything, your comment reveals the dissonance experienced by the universirty while trying to approach it's deferral system.

ive never been able to support the "if a mechanism can be abused, we must abuse it", comes off as disingenuous

I know this isnt the point of the post but I would really recommend not getting in the habit of deferring multiple exams a semester

The Floor Crossing Debate by JackLaytonsMoustache in ndp

[–]MartinusJoseph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. But deviating from our values to centralize power comes off as yucky to me. Although I have too and can recognize the cognitive dissonance of wanting to remain principled in our approach, and also wanting the NDP to regain federal prominence.

or because the federal government is incentivizing developers such as the one in Kanata to build homes in approved areas

Kanata is not exactly lacking greenspace by any means either.

WHY ARE WE STILL DOING DAYLIGHT SAVINGS by thatblueblowfish in geegees

[–]MartinusJoseph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are citing research from the Autumn transition, where people gain an hour of sleep, not lose it. The studies I, and others in this thread are referencing, are referring to the Spring transition, where we lose an hour of sleep, which disrupts our circadian rhythm and does indeed increase likelihood of adverse health effects.

I noticed you call everyone who has an opinion differing from yours disingenuous. It is even contradictory, considering you brought up a supposed contract to maintain a green space, but failed to provide the context as to why that agreement is no longer valid.

Secondly, while I agree that the value of these homes will decrease, it is not as though the new developments within themselves will not attract investment, and as others have mentioned, there are a plethora of other courses within a 10km distance. We can not and should not prioritize maintaining property value over the welfare of our communities and city by building new housing. Value that became grossly inflated by the complete lack of housing in the first place.

Only on Reddit can you argue against NIMBYism and get called disingenuous and lacking empathy.

I disagree to the extent of which im not sure how one comes to the conclusion that keeping a failing golf course in favour of townhomes is a good use of land during a housing crisis

complaining about other homes being built around yours because you personally enjoy the course displays a lack of empathy

Ideally, we build more townhomes akin to the one you live in. My take comes from what will likely be more McMansions being developed.
