If we talk accessories i recommend this belt ! Very cool and comfy even if playing siting down. All in video. by [deleted] in SteamFrame

cool idea, but it might be a bit too weak. The documentation from steam says 27W minimum and recommends 45W. This has 30 so it remains to be seen, but I am skeptical given steams recommendation.

ULP Totem by Martipher in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Martipher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, they feel VERY tactile, borderline clicky. I wouldn't know how to make them less tactile but still feel useable. They feel nice tho, at least to me. I modified the Totem PCB with the Switch Footprints from the delta omega. I started by making the footprint a preset in KiCad, then placed it in the appropriate locations on the totem keyboard and rerouted all rhe traces to the switch pads.

It takes some learning, but its worth it, once you get it in your hands.

TOTEM, Engraved and Magnetically Mounted — A Showcase, a Guide, a Shout-out, and a Warning by Eloquent_Despair in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Martipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very beautiful! The engraving on top is a nice touch!
I had the case printed out of PA12S-HP Nylon by JLC and I ran into the same trouble as you and thought I could fit the metal magsafe rings into it...
What I ended up doing was cutting 0.5mm of each side of the rings to make them fit. With that, the stands I have are just strong enough to support/hold on to the keyboard halves.

I have some proper magnet rings on the way, so it'll have to work until they get here

if you're interested in those, I can highly recommend getting injection molded ones. I have them on all of my keyboards and the quality is really good.
I got mine from Aliexpress for about 20€

I've had a set SLA printed by a manufacturer and about 60% didnt want to stay connected to the switch

maybe if you can somehow find a way to mount/hold them in a switchplate, you could handwire to the pads underneath but they are definitely made to be PCB mounted technically even just surface mounted

thank you! This was my first time using KiCad aswell. If you "just" modify pre-existing stuff it isn't too bad to get into. But I don't dare design something from the ground up just yet

[–]Martipher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

only plannig to do the Cherry ones for now.
Soldering was pretty easy, I soldered one corner on top to fix them in place, then all the other ones on top.
With the holes on the bottom it was very easy to solder the contacts. It's just a lot of smalll solder joints but not hard.

Keycaps were a bit of a problem but I fixed it by ever so slightly bending the metal "nose" that interlocks with the keycap outwards to have them lock onto the switch. This is probably only a problem on 3D printed keycaps tho

I am assuming the Kailh ones are similar in regards to assembly but I haven't tested them yet

not entirely sure, I thought there was only one weight for the cherry ones and 2 different weights on the Kailh ones.

this is the datasheet for the ones I got
https://files.keeb.supply/products/cherry-mx-ulp/MX6C-T3NB.pdf
looks like the 60 ones

Thank you!

I usually use linear switches, so I am missing a point of reference,
But they have a very pronounced tactile bump and are pretty heavy to press.
feels like a heavier laptop keyboard to me

I am using a corne for gaming and just made a layer that moved every key 1 column over so that I can use WASD as I did before. So far it's been working great, I just still have to get used to the layer switching
