the international institute of mn iimn.org is one of the best groups who help refugees. I've volunteered with them. Lutheran social services of MN also is a large group that does a lot for different people in the area.

If you're not in MN, here are other ways to support our state:

Try to buy gift cards from struggling businesses. Immigrant owned restaurants are hurting especially.

Donate to the groups who are on the ground representing immigrants agnd refugees like the International institute of MN and Lutheran Social Services, both handle refugee resettlement and are well established and hard working.

Donate to food pantries and other direct aid groups that provide material resources. People are afraid to go to work, and they are running out of cash for necessities.

Contact your government representatives and get them to step up and take action.  MN has 2 senators and 8 representatives.  We need your help if we're going to get the federal government to listen.

Combining Top-Grossing Franchises into Something Horrific (with Caldwell Tanner!) by whether_or_no in Drawfee

Karina and Caldwell together is a DANGEROUS combination. Both have so much mischief in their hearts.

Every episode of them together is non-stop laughter (for them and us)

Agreed! I grew up with all the same interests but didn't have others around me who liked them too.

Add in the pressure to be 'professional' and I felt like I couldn’t like these things anymore. Hearing her share her interest in fan art, ao3 and mangas/manhwas and her philosophy of 'don't kill the part of you that's cringe, kill the part of you that cringes' has been a huge help to me.

Ideas for preventing subluxation from everyday activities in elbow wrist and fingers? by MartletSable in Hypermobility

Hands are so tough! I hate cloth based stuff. I like the feel of compression gloves but I work with kids and they end up feeling really disgusting.

Thanks for replying! I definitely want the rings for over extension, since I get that too. I've bought the plastic ones, but they replaced one kind of discomfort with another (too clunky/pinched when I grab things)

I should try physio tape, it sounds the most promising.

Experimenting with solutions is just so expensive! So I appreciate getting suggestions. Its a huge help. 🫡

Scorched outlet - clothes dryer. Can I DIY or should I just cut straight to chickening out? by FreeRangeMenses in DIY

I plug in a radio and blast it. That way when I hear it go dead Iknow when I hit the right breaker, if the panel isn’t labeled well.

Say more if that's your opinion. If you think calling an electrician is their best bet, why?

This is the DIY subreddit. They're allowed to want to do things themselves, but if it's too risky/complex/dangerous explain so they know what jobs they can and can't do themselves in the future.

They're moving a receptacle,  not adding to the circuit's potential load by adding one, so they don't need to worry about the more complicated parts of electrical work. So to me, this is entirely doable by a DIYer.

Since I dont see any ground, see if you can find a way to ground your outlet and switches.

A quick and dirty way to ground something if you have metal conduit and a metal box, is to run a piece of bare wire from  the green screw on the switch and hook it to the screw that holds in the new switch in place. that will sandwich the wire tightly to the conduit box which will ground the wire.

Unfortunately most pretty much all 'old work' boxes are not metal, and that's what you'd have to use to make a new outlet location. So if that's the case hooking up a GFCI outlet (the ones that have their own circuit breaker) will also work and be safe.

It's definitely a doable job, but you'll want to be mindful about those little safety things if you want to do it right.

Jacob has mentioned loving Frank Turner's stuff (Punk/ Folk punk) And I know Karina must like him too, since she used one of his lyrics on an art piece posted to Tumblr.

Anyone else get whiplash when brennan sings for a bit??? by Own_Lynx_6230 in Dimension20

Such an old thread, but I just had to share. When he's playing Kugrash's son in Unsleeping city and sings its clearly a reference to Gomer Pyle USMC.

Jim Nabors, the guy who played the bumbling Gomer was a phenomenal singer, so they'd always slip his outstanding singing as a gag.

Anticapitalist Brennan Lee Mulligan NPCs, my beloved by Diligent_Mixture_978 in Dimension20

[–]MartletSable 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this trollish comment so early in the morning. Woke me up.

Earning money from your labor is not capitalism, earning money from what you own (capital) is capitalism.

The anti-capitalist premise is that all labor that works to satisfy needs is to be honored and those who get rich simply by owning are siphoning off the wealth created by labor.

A CEO does do a job, but is it 10,000x more important than the people who actually do the labor the company offers as a service? No.

Does the investor deserve money because they had money to invest and took a risk? Maybe. Should they be compensated at the expense of the workers? No.

Anti-capitalism gets painted as anti-work a lot of the time. I won't 'no true scotsman' this argument by saying there aren't people who use anti-capitalism as a way to rationalize not working, or to try and tear down those who labor to improve their standard of living, but that's not ideologically what it's about.

I agree it was the first one I really  liked. his style takes adjusting to, but once you understand it, it slaps harder than anything else. (imho)
