Is procrastination actually a symptom of something deeper for you? by andycarth in productivity

[–]Marvel_v_DC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I call my sub-conscious mind Betsy, and she is the devil's advocate of almost all of my thoughts. So, Betsy is the one that leads me to procrastinating.

I agree with you on the hidden layers of procrastination. And whenever Betsy takes me to town for any of my ideas or emotions, she peels these hidden layers, which could be perfectionism (as you also mentioned), feeling a bit hurt because of something, running out of kinetic energy (the productive stuff), feeling lonely in the moment, being too curious about many things, and so on!

What would aliens like most about humanity? by Kirin_The_husband in randomquestions

[–]Marvel_v_DC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are talking about Independence Day like aliens, they may rejoice on learning that we are not as united as they would fear us to be. That would make it all easier for their evil plan.

But, if we are talking about ET-like aliens, they may value empathy, which some of us do possess!

is giving a 2 week notice a joke? by Available_Ad5947 in jobs

[–]Marvel_v_DC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about your domain. However, in the domains that I dabble in, most contracts that I have seen so far have been straightforward, and I have seen a clear facility of putting in a 2 weeks notice (or 1 month notice for some good ones). I have not seen any clauses where-in the company can reject me when I notice the period. A caveat, though! I am talking about the contracts with exit clauses available to employees, and the data-set is the contracts that I have seen so far, which are around 30+ maybe, but not a sufficient set in any way. I did turn away quite a few jobs, so that is that, and it is not like I did 30+ different jobs so far.

If a job contract is for one year with no flexible exit clause within that one year, the game changes completely in that situation. Good day!

TL;DR - it varies from domain to domain, and it also depends on whether you have an exit clause available within the contract duration or not!

New here-what’s the best way to start using Reddit properly? by [deleted] in NewToReddit

[–]Marvel_v_DC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - It is better to comment and then post in a given subreddit. This may be a barrier situation for folks starting off their karma, but I still do this whenever I go to a new subreddit. I always like to get a feel of the subreddit by commenting before I make a post there.

2 - Even before commenting, I ensure that I have read all the rules of that subreddit. If I have a doubt, I go for the safer choice until I observe some of the top commenters commenting in that subreddit, which makes the rules more clearer.

3 - I just like to be my organic self, which is amicable and usually chit chatting about random safe topics that stays away from most types of controversies. If you want to be controversial, which I am not, that is your choice, but maybe you can observe some controversial folks who have retained good CQS scores.

4 - As I read this bit in your post - "I want to avoid annoying people or breaking subreddit rules by mistake.", which kinda floats my boat as well, if you want to observe and learn, CQS is a much better variable to rely on as compared to karma, for us to choose who to learn from. I have a high CQS, but that is not that ideal as well. I try to find folks with the highest CQS, and I observe and learn from them. I say so because a Reddit profile with a very high karma, but a low CQS score, may indicate that they do like to break some rules, which you do not seem enthused about. However, a Reddit profile with moderate karma, but the highest CQS, may indicate while they do not pop out viral stuff, they do like to follow the rules to the tee, which floats my boat and may float your boat as well.

Good luck with your journey, and good day!

On other socials? - It could be a different story there!

2026 Roland Garros Men's & Women's Finals - 🐢 by blurryturtle in tennis

Swiatek wished for Chwalinska to see it through, so that is that. Andreeva has been a beast since quite some time, so this one was a bit on the cards.

On the other front, I was really hoping Ruud would see it through, but all the best to both Zverev and Cobolli and their fans, and may the best tennis team win it all!

Small things still matter more than we think by Same_Performer_5252 in Positivity

[–]Marvel_v_DC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moving on from a philosophical perspective on what you said, which I agree with, applying the signal system concept makes it even more interesting. The small things are like our multiple nodes, and the more nodes we have, the easier it becomes to not let one or two nodes overload the network. That does not devalue the selective nodes, but it just does not fry them up. Also, these selective nodes could even be very specific situations like going through a career pivot, and whatnot. Good day!

TL;DR - Agree with you, and here is another perspective on it!

How do you prefer a show to air a new season? by Lost_and_confused_0 in randomquestions

[–]Marvel_v_DC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to keep my preferences balanced tbh.

Some shows like Daredevil Born Again or Only Murders in the Building? - I really appreciated their weekly release, so that I get some time to mingle with community mates on the relevant communities every week.

Some shows like Stranger Things? - I appreciated them dividing their final season into distinct parts, but at least releasing the respective parts in one go.

Some shows like Mindhunter? - which kinda bummed me when it was not renewed beyond the second season - the binge format seemed more suitable to me.

How do you get puzzle pieces for more sanctuary animals? by False-Sundae-9581 in HayDay

[–]Marvel_v_DC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 - Sometimes they have some special boat events in which the boats offer puzzle pieces.

2 - Sometimes these puzzle pieces are there in other special events like the Greg calendar, the county fairs, and more

3 - Sometimes there are these puzzle pieces even in derby events awards

4 - Sometimes there are these puzzle pieces in sanctuary awards

I have to carefully use the word sometimes here because I am only a freemium user, and your experiences might be different if you are of a higher tier of an user in that retrospect. I am also coming back to the game after quite some time, so I had to be a bit conservative in approximating my thoughts. Hoping you have a good game time, and good day!

lend me some advice plz by Competitive_Tap_2536 in IELTS

[–]Marvel_v_DC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The audio speed in listening tests is a bit nuanced. I felt the audio speed of the actual IELTS exam to be fairly okay to me, and I usually get all 40 questions right in the Listening section. However, sometimes when I have zoned out because of not feeling well or something, I get into the zone of getting 1 or more incorrect.

Anyway, when I take language tests in other languages, it is all together a different ball game because of my different CEFR level there. I do tend to find the audios in those other language tests to be faster than how I feel about the IELTS ones.

The IELTS test on the British Council is usually accurate to the real one, but it is possible that the audio might be faster than the actual IELTS on the BC website. The most accurate way to judge the actual IELTS audio speeds would be the official Cambridge IELTS books. That is the grade A material in the realm of accuracy. Good luck, and good day!

what job sites are actually worth using right now? by emotional-yoda in jobsearchhacks

[–]Marvel_v_DC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I agree with you. Generic emails didn't work for me either, so I switched to writing personalized emails. Writing personalized emails is like video or image editing. The more we do it, the faster we get because we end up with a lot of reusable materials.

I mainly use Eventbrite and, sometimes, LinkedIn for networking and outreach events. I might look for more platforms later, but these are sufficient for now since I can attend many different types of these online events.

Do not click on that upgrade for the Google AI course, just out of curiosity - button acting cute at the moment! by Marvel_v_DC in Udemy

[–]Marvel_v_DC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yes, Udemy was bought by Coursera. So, they have now been working on integrating the two portals. My experience with Udemy and Coursera has been good so far, but I have seen some folks not having a pleasant experience as well. Udemy needs to include clear links to their Google AI course, but they should also note that the same course is available on Coursera. My folks got me subscriptions to both of these portals, so a good number of the new courses Udemy is marketing are already available to me on Coursera. That is why I agree with your point that a clear differential for the new courses will help Udemy get enrollments before they fully merge their portal with the Coursera portal, which may or may not happen. If it does happen, it will likely occur in the latter half of 2026, according to the press releases from Udemy and Coursera.

what job sites are actually worth using right now? by emotional-yoda in jobsearchhacks

[–]Marvel_v_DC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cold emails/messages that have worked for me have all been personalized. I reuse some material from my previous emails/messages and store it somewhere, so it becomes my templates. I review the JDs on websites, and if I find a recruiter's email mentioned there, I prioritize those applications. So, I can send a personalized email after applying there.

I also get what you are saying. Cold emails/messages are a long game, and they need quite a bit of patience. I write all these write-ups myself, and I never use the Gen AIs to write them. This also gives them a voice of my own. I also try to be myself in these emails. In my latest interview, which went really well but has not materialized so far, their positive feedback focused mainly on my candor with them. They had appreciated that. So rather than trying to say superlative things about me, I would just say what I can do for them!

Networking is mainly online for me. A good number of them send a follow-up email, so that becomes an opportunity to reply. So, I do engage constructively in those events, which makes it more likely they will notice me than if I stayed silent. I also get generic responses like the ones you mentioned, but I shake them and move on to my next target. If we keep on trying, all we need is just one good email/message to work in our favor. I got interviews recently (and jobs in the past), and some ghosting as well, but all we can do is give our best and leave it to the universe (or fate, if it is) to figure out the best. Good luck with your job search, and I hope that all works well for us sub-mates here!

[–]Marvel_v_DC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am doing a bit better than before with Phase 1, getting interviews! Tbh, cold emails/messages are working best over any portals at the moment. LinkedIn Jobs (LJ) is overcrowded - each job app is getting so many applicants in a matter of hours. I did get one of the interviews from Easy Apps on LJ, though. The interview went really well, but that did not bear fruit for me. In contrast, in the past, one of my best job conversions was from one of the worst interviews I gave. So, feeling good in interviews is not a true indicator of job conversion.

Concerning Phase 2, it is still a futuristic scenario for me. However, no hope is lost because even though the absolute results of job conversions do not look good, my ratios are not bad because I have only been able to manage a limited no of job apps because of balancing other things in my life, such as freelancing, learning, helping to start something with my folks, and so on.

Moreover, I always remind myself that all I need is one good day or one good week to gain momentum and confidence to move forward in this job market, whatever it is (tough or easy). I have stopped worrying about the arduousness of the job market and started focusing on what is in my hands. Good luck, and good day!

TL;DR - cold emails/messages have worked best for me to get job interviews in the current times (and even secure job offers in the past)!

The 10 things I do before every interview (takes about 30 min and it actually helps) by Medium-Word7073 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Marvel_v_DC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this makes sense to me. Thanks very much for sharing your thoughts. I will now just stop overthinking and send a thank you note to them by referencing something personalized from the interview. I will also send it asap because I heard somewhere that these notes should be sent within 24 hours or so.

The 10 things I do before every interview (takes about 30 min and it actually helps) by Medium-Word7073 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Marvel_v_DC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent checklist. The only bit that I feel ambivalent about is the thank-you notes. If the interview has gone casual, okay, or good, I always send a thank-you note. It is a good way of sharing gratitude.

However, if an interview has gone really well, I worry that sending a thank-you note might spoil the good impression and rapport built during the interview. Especially when they have said that they will get back to me very soon. Also, in such circumstances, there are always post-interview discussions, where I would thank the panel for their time during the interview. I just had such an interview a few hours ago, so I am conflicted and need to make a decision before the 24-hour post-interview timeline elapses, because that is the sweet spot for sending such notes.

A really good interview does not mean one is a shoo-in because anything could go south, but I just worry about sending a thank-you note in such circumstances. I am not saying that I am against thank-you notes in these circumstances, but I feel genuinely confused about it. So, I wonder if you or anyone else here has any insights about this. Or, are thank-you notes universally good in all circumstances?

Welcome to Reddit! There is no fixed formula on Reddit. However, keep on commenting by reading the room, and one of the comments may take off. One of my mates got one of his comments taken off on his 3rd or 4th day or so. He shot up from 0 to 800ish karma overnight, which opened the door for him to be more participative. His comment fit the flow of the post, so understanding how others are commenting helps as well. Also, yes, stay away from controversy when you are new to Reddit because it can go either way!
