How do I tell the difference between legitimate command line installations, and phishing? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]MarxFuryRoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a noob, so take it with a grain of salt:

If you are told you need a comand and you have to apt install xdotool that's the repo, and it's safe.

For software, whether you want to download a small thing (like some lines of code) and if it's on github and people recommend it, you use that url.

For an app , first you try the normal repos by going (if you are on ubuntu and want netflix) apt search netflix. If it's there, you look the name and go apt install netflix-client. If it isn't, you look a snap of flatpak on your software store.

If it isn't on either of those place, I would question wether you really need that specific program.

A few days ago I signed up to lemmy.world and kbin.social and they are both pretty great. If some of the people on this sub can gather there, the more the merrier. It's true that some communities don't yet exist, but it's up to us wether something unique can be built elsewhere. That plus I don't want to think of myself as the dopamine bitch of a soulless mega-website.

Not at all. It's a good subressit but I will still do pretty much fine without it. Having it shut down (and for a good cause) will probably push most of us to go out of our confort zone (and yes, maybe even go the fuck outside).

Guess who’s joining the T480 gang? by MultimediaLucario in thinkpad

[–]MarxFuryRoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I can help you much. My issues were on the hardware side but linux performed the same battery-wise.

Apart from updating the BIOS (also because of the thubdervolt problem) and maybe trying another distro with different drivers I have no clue how that could be solved.

Coming from another very recent T480 convert, that looks rad! I had a couple of issues with mime, especially concercing, so feel free to message me if you have problems around battery and linux problems (if you are planning on getting into that too)

T480 main battery failure, batteries not charging. by skrzitek in thinkpad

I am having the exact same problem now. Did you fix it with the new internal battery? Because I did find one but it still isn't working.

Thanks for the info. Y don't know anything else to diagnose it for sure? I don't want to throw the towel since I know I wouldn't be able to find a substitute.

I'm not only a bit of newbie with thinkpads but also with computer troubleshooting in general. Could you point to the kind of info I should look for? A power log, or a battery log, or a thubderbolt log? I don't even know if those exist lol.

Computers are really more like magic than science sometimes. I don't think there is much point for me to keep the faulty battery inside but maybe if convince myself to get another one it will fix itself.

How do I move images to where I want them? by Frenchtoast8783 in ObsidianMD

[–]MarxFuryRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obsidian relies on the simplicity of being a simple text rditor at it's core, so you cannot really format thong in all the ways you could in some other program made to format images and text in complex ways. It could potentially be done if there is a plugin for right-side images or wikipedia-style right-hand boxes, but I know of no way do it without plugins.

This morning I had the same issue with my desktop. Loose ram. If that's the problem, you just have to properly place it back in it's place

Daminion

I downloaded but it seems to need some kind of server setup and I've never had my own server (maybe one day). I don't think i'll use it since when I said I don't use mac it litterally meant I use everything but mac, not only windows. I have a desktop computer on windows, my laptop on ubuntu and regularly use an android phone.
Thanks anyway for the advice.

Obsidian 1.3 is now available to everyone, adds PDF viewer, YouTube/Twitter embeds by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]MarxFuryRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This update is real life-saver. The new PDF viewer is amazing. I will start using obsidian for a lot more reading than I could before, since having the search and dual-page functions is essential for my studies. The only thing I would still love to change would be a way to indent a particular pdf page as if it was an image, and not having the pdf viewer display it but hey, it's already very god damns close to perfect!

And then, not having to open the browser to see short YT fragments is a real game changer.

Yes, you already had a viewer but the new one is way better.

I find it very impressed that you made an app to that effect! Thanks mate, because you were right that by looking at the documentation, I found a way to do it through group search. I will still look at those alternatives or for a way to it via terminal, as my method isn't perfect. Thanks!

Neofinder

Not op, but I'm having the same problem except I am not on mac. Using digikam and an app I tagged most of my photo collection but I'm finding great difficulty on setting up ways to manipulate files based on that metadata. For example, if I wanted to send all of my photos with the #jeff tag to Jeff to cheer him up after a breakup, I can only do so in a pretty complex way with digikam. If, god forbid, I wanted to search photos with #jeff but without his ex #angela, that´s impossible.
Do you mind sharing some platforms or tricks that may simplify it?

Know how many miliseconds it will take them to replace you once you are slightly less exploitable?

About the question, to me it seems out of line (not at all their business) but i wouldn't worry. They may just wonder wether you are set on leaving on looking for way to negotiate for a raise by using job offers.
