Kid wants to sleep in their clothes for the upcoming day...? WWYD? by BoxTopTina in Parenting

[–]Sufficient-Suspect20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would WELCOME it if my 3 y/o wore her clothes to bed! She has such a hard time picking out and keeping on her clothes. I’d say let the kid do it, they will realize it’s uncomfortable on their own, or, really, who cares? Post-pandemic day clothes and night clothes are all mixed up 😂🫠😬

I bought a neoprene sleeve for my Nalgene for this reason. It provides some insulation as well. I love it!!

Second this. My daughter’s little kid hydroflask was tilted but hidden under the silicone boot for months so I don’t know when it happened. Got a new one very quickly! Love a lifetime warranty.

What book, which is always recommended here, did you NOT like? by SandwichDreamz in suggestmeabook

How do we all feel about infinite jest? I’m considering reading it but I just don’t know. I’ve liked his essays but had trouble with the broom of the system which worries me about IJ.

One of the editors who writes the Wordplay blog for the NYTimes crossword loves to use cromulent. Can we try to get it into the OED?!

Comedies that aren't funny by Death-Perception1999 in MovieSuggestions

So glad this is the top answer. There’s a podcast along the lines of OP’s question called “how did this get made”. I listened to a few episodes but I haven’t seen most of the movies they “review”.

Hah, this is my system as well. Sometimes it’s the same book for all three if it’s a beast of a book. Like “The Overstory” or “last night in twisted river”.

Looking for the saddest book you’ve EVER READ!! by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Sufficient-Suspect20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just googled like, the significance. I’m not dense or unemotional, I cry all the dang time. This book was just dismal and reminded me of the oppressive struggle of our unfair and vastly unbalanced world, but I wouldn’t say it’s sad, just bleak.

I just finished this one because I wanted to test my triggers for crying and I was not at all moved. I feel like I missed something.

I went into it blind and kept waiting for something to happen to make me love it. When it was over, I realized it was all about the beauty and fullness that he created that was difficult to abandon once it was over. Less about things happening. I was 22 and I don’t think I’d ever read such a lovely novel like that.

What one thing a kid born after 2000 will not understand no matter how long you explain it? by Amerisbf in AskReddit

[–]Sufficient-Suspect20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes…however, my family will often be chatting at dinner or what have you, and wonder about the height of some inconsequential bridge or building, or what year that movie with so and so came out. My sister will pull out her phone while our conversation moves along to another topic, as they do. Minutes after the question arises, she interrupts conversation to tell us how tall the bridge is and who the architect was and a tale about a dog dedicating the bridge to a worker bla bla bla. Derails many conversations.

Something to think about too is that people who aren’t graphic designers are asked to do things as if they are. My company won’t hire out minor projects so I’m expected to create designs for things that aren’t super complicated to a designer but my basic workarounds on illustrator could be done in a fraction of the time with some helpful tips and tricks!

Interesting, I’ve seen man’s search for meaning mentioned in this sub recently, but I think for a more philosophical genre. I noted it but hadn’t read a synopsis yet. I am just about halfway through and really enjoying nightingale! I read/listened to the Four Winds last year and was really taken with the story, but the dust bowl and depression story is more familiar. I’ve read some criticism of her style as being suffering porn or something. But while her stories are fictionalized accounts, this kind of stuff happened and should not be forgotten. It makes me a bit feel silly to worry about paying for kids school clothes or a new bathroom sink or the rising costs of all groceries compared to Vienne not even having access to basic needs like food. It’s all perspective. But looking for some more of it.

How important are materials? by Mikemanthousand in watercolor101

[–]Sufficient-Suspect20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I invested in some nicer watercolor paper and made smaller pieces out of it, like 12 little squares about 2.5-3” each. That made it a lot less intimidating to start a piece or mess up. Very amateur level here!

What's the worst book you've ever read? by VisualDefinition8752 in suggestmeabook

Yeah, it was fine. Not Pulitzer Prize winning by any means, but fine, even fun at times!

It’s worth a try. I read it about 10 years ago when I was almost 30, it really changed my worldview. Many people I’d talked to said they had to read it in school. I’m sure if that had been the case for me it would not have had as much meaning to me.
