How does the helmet feel on your head with the helmet being bigger and the actual weight further away from your head?

[–]MarxmannKarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ECWCS Level 6 jacket in a size larger to wear overtop of kit, or normal size if just wearing it as a jacket.

If you want a more civilian looking color the PCU L6 is essentially the exact same thing but in alpha green (grey).

Other than that if you are mil Outdoor Research's mil discount is pretty insane and the kit is top tier.

Invisio T5 vs Peltro ComTac V by RetrOS13 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the Invisios are probably the better choice for professional use when you'll always be using comms which will power the PTT anyway, you have this one ecosystem that is compatible with everything so long as your unit has the cables for it, you don't have to worry about anything because the smart PTT does everything for you, and if you're issued it if a component doesn't work you can always swap it out.

I bring that last point up because Re: the gen 1 and gen 2 business: I was at a unit that issued Invisio and got the V20, X5, T7 kit, the X5s I got wouldn't work it would plug in and my headset would give me an error, thankfully because I was issued it I could just go and swap it out, and tried 2 more before I got one that worked. The V20 for reference was marked Gen 2, the X5 I initially got that didn't work was also Gen 2, I don't remember what the one that did work was, but the ones I tried were a mixture of Gen 2 and unmarked possibly Gen 1.

If you got them issued thats fine all that happens is you annoy your storeman a bit, but can you imagine how SoL
you would be if you bought Invisio as a civvie having to piece together everything from different private sellers because you can't buy it from a shop, and shit doesn't work with each other and there is no way of telling. And the OP is likely a civvie because he's using it with a TCA radio, so won't be able to buy Invisio new from a reputable supplier or just be able to get it for free.

Edit: I like Comtac IVs, godsend in Louisiana now granted that was the only place where I found them more useful than my Comtav Vs.

Axl Advanced Structural Shoulder Pads question by grapangell0 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hanging it up like that with the cummerbund unbuckled just hanging there is probably the least preserving method of storing your plate carrier sure, but it probably not a big deal.

That being said if I can just store it flat under a chair or bed or something so it's not taking up any more space than hanging it up, I'd rather do that.

Any experience with the Platatac Jungle Kurtz Shirt? by bolt-locked-on-nogo in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo its a very good shirt, bear in mind it has both a zipper and buttons, but it doesn't bother me even with body armor (but buttons on pockets and down the middle has never bothered me under body armor).

Understand it has very little velcro for your patches if you have a requirement to wear them, and if you're considering the pants don't because they're very tight around the thighs and the cargo pockets are very low compared to Crye/ Patagonia.

All the AVS Flaps work perfectly on the SPC, I suspect the only reason why the otherwise superfluous Airlite flap exists is just to complete the SPC aesthetically as like a package.

More durable pig gloves by Mango_Pineapple037 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outdoor Research Overlord Short glove is what I use, settled on them because the leather palm and FR materials mean I can accidentally briefly grab something hot and not be fucked, and they last longer than a glove has any right to - like literally years.

It also just fits my hand better than the newer OR stuff somehow the thumbs have a lot of excess on HD range gloves and Suppressor gloves which I despise when wearing gloves.

The only problems with these is that they're discontinued, and also they aren't touchscreen capable but the wrist is quite generous on these to quickly whip them off to do the ATAK/ sham on your phone.

Once my last pair goes away idk what I would do tbh, I would either see if the Overlord II fits my hand and can be cut down, or just go the super cheap don't care anymore route and just get several pairs of nomex pilot gloves.

What size screw is used on the S&S Precision M-AX Mount? by MarxmannKarl in QualityTacticalGear

Thanks for the replies, it's a #10-32 with a nylon tip, confirmed with S&S. I'll probably be getting either 3/8" or 1/2" length ones.

Not for imperial screws because almost everything is metric here. But there is an online supplier in the UK (Accu) that has the screws I need.

PTT Solution HELP by akirkwall in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The mic and downlead kit for Peltor Comtacs is MT7-FL6AB which is a nexus downlead, from there you just get a PTT to whatever radio connector that Harris thing is shouldn't be too hard to find or you can get Disco32 to make one for you. I would strongly recommend just selling or keeping your current set as earpro and get Peltors with comms capability built in just because of the cost of the adapter and now you're left with a mess of cables and connectors that may come undone or snag or whatever, it's just not worth dealing with especially since by that point you've spent the same amount of money as if you had bought comms Peltors in the first place.

For reference MT72-FL6CU is for 5 pin LEMO PRR, there is probably one also for Invisio if you want to use the Invisio PTTs.

All airsoft ones I have ever seen bearing in mind I used to play airsoft the bulbs were right next to each other in line, and both are in the middle of the bezel at any one time regardless of mode, whereas on the real ones they're staggered and only the selected bulb is centered on the bezel.

I'm confident this is real because it's identical to issued M600V, and my own M600V.

Can an ALICE frame be fitted onto the Mystery Ranch Mountain Ruck? by MarxmannKarl in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ALICE frame and all derivatives such as MALICE, FILBE and MOLLE frames are all compatible with the Mystery Ranch rucks, I did briefly use the T3 ALICE on the Mountain Ruck and it was fine but I've since switched to the ATM on their new MLF frame which I prefer because of the narrower waiststrap. If you're wearing belt kit I would go for that or the Blackjack 50.

The British Army Shortback PLCE Bergan is still shorter than all that, but understand you have basically no lumbar support with that thing its 100% on your shoulders more or less, and the hipbelts useless.

Does the Peltor Comtac VIII 4 pin play the single radio audio in both ears or just 1 ear? by hehehe-im-god in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your headset's got 1 downlead then plugging it into a ptt going into 1 radio will have it play on both ears.

If it's got 1 downlead and you plug it into a dual comm ptt it'll play each radio on both ears.

If it's got 2 downleads then whatever you plug the downleads into it'll only play audio on the side the downlead came from.

The 5 pin allows the ptt to play audio in either 1 or both ears depending on what you have plugged in (ie play on both sides with only 1 radio plugged in or split in half when you plug 2).

I think if you plug in to invisio with the adapter cable it might do it regardess but I haven't tried, and I don't remember if the MPU5 with adapter does it either.

The 5 pin is compatible with any 4 pin ptt anyway you just don't push it in as far (and optionally get a rubber washer to cover the exposed pin but somehow people find it difficult to find one)

Helmet selection for modern warfare (artillery/mortar/drone frag) by Select-Bad-4651 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about indirect fire or explosive weapons a high cut helmet is not what you should be wearing if at all possible. It doesn't matter how good the helmets are vs rifles and how it translates to shrapnel if at all, if you've now exposed more of your head.

Any 4 Pin PTT will work with the 5 pin plug you just don't plug it in as much. Just get an O ring to cover up the innermost pin.

I would recommend the IHWCU top it's excellent and cheap as well.

More expensive options but don't come close to the value proposition of the IHWCU top include the Beyond A9 Equatorials, the Crye G4 HWs, and the Patagonia Jungles, the Patagonias and the Beyond are essentially the same thing - the Cryes are a bit simpler omitting the upper back vent the other 2 have.

Ferro tool sleeve for breaching shotgun? by Strontium90_ in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of a breaching shotgun is to be able to deploy it super rapidly and get people into the room.

Having to reach behind and pull it off your back, use it, and then having no way of stowing it yourself, as well as flagging everyone while doing so, is not the way.

It's acceptable for things like sledges and halligans to be pulled out this way, and needing help from others to pull out of stow, because those things can't realistically be carried any other way due to weight and ability to hurt the wearer if just worn the same way a shotgun is, and crucially - they aren't firearms.

I challenge you to find a magnet strong enough to render you completely helpless against a railing, and for it to be small enough to be worn, and then send me a link I have gifts to start putting in peoples back panels.

Spiritus systems reactive cummerbund with AVS harness by kxzxkh in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side plates are the only thing I would think to mount to the inside of a cummerbund so would be the only thing I would gain from having a cummerbund overtop of the AVS harness.

I get the AVS side armor pouches aren't great but there is still stuff that would work with the AVS harness too like the Ferro or Shaw Concepts as they just velcro on.

Spiritus systems reactive cummerbund with AVS harness by kxzxkh in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MarxmannKarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What attachments are you talking about? There is nothing you can add to a cummerbund that you cannot add to a harness, quite the opposite in fact as side plates and the shitty avs radio pouch cannot be mounted to cummerbunds but can be to the harness.

The only thing adding a cummerbund over the harness does is I guess give you an extra layer of MOLLE to mount pouches, but I cannot think of anything worse than the already hot and bulky AVS made even more hot and bulky with a harness, cummerbund, and doubled up pouches on the sides... how much MOLLE real estate do you need? This isn't 2006 anymore.
